    Give this comment a thumbs up if it's the first time you've heard about masking with shape with Essential Graphics :)

      this feature has been available for quite some time. why title it as a new way? it is "the way".

    • @EnglishWithEnes
      @EnglishWithEnes ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the technique but I've never heard about those useful blue handles at 6:00

    • @PremiereGal
      @PremiereGal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hotedits1991 I don't know the exact date it was introduced, but masking with shape is something fairly new. Starting about 2 years ago i did show how to use the Mask with Text feature to add video inside of text, but making shapes as mask, that was a mind blowing moment I had a couple months back. Up until recently I would use the opacity masks instead. For me, it's new and I hope it helps folks that didn't know also. We do move fast these days and it's hard to keep up with all the new bells and whistles introduced :) And I should ad that this masking method in Essential Graphics really just works on the text and the assets you import into the panel, it can't be used on video clips in the timeline, that we will have to use the old way.

      @@EnglishWithEnes Those handles are sneaky!

    6:00 why haven't I discovered this life saver before. All this time, I knew a standart-determiner software like Premiere had to have such a feature, but simply no one taught it. Thanks Gal! That's not what I originally came for but the part I like most about the video.

    • @PremiereGal
      @PremiereGal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It's such a small little thing and it's not very clear that hey are handles. And handles have been around for nearly 3 years! (I think, somewhere around there), I think it was an update or two after they introduced .mogrts, so likely around 2019. So crazy that's not something as widely known!

    Thanks for this tip! Speaking of animations, is there a quick way to write directly onto a video yet (using my own handwriting using a Wacom tablet), either in Premiere or AE? As far as I’m aware, it’s still an arduous process, either screen recording myself writing on a black screen, dropping in the footage and changing the transparency to Multiply or Screen. Or the easier (but not as good looking) way by just applying a linear wipe transition to my handwriting. Yuck. 😅 I sure wish there was an easier way, since I want to personalize my videos more with my own handwriting.

    Excellent video as usual. Thank you for all the tips. A naive question (as I don't yet have a recent license): once the reveal has been saved as a template, can the text be changed on the fly with this template? Even if it can, I suppose you have to adjust for the length of the text...in other words, there is no way to automate the length of the mask as per the length of the text, is there?

    Loved this video and it's the second time I'm watching bc I finally had to do it. Just a question, how do you mask to shape over a video instead of text? I can't figure out how to connect the shape to a video (within a video).

    • @TomElia
      @TomElia ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the only way to use this method for masking video is to use the 'Track Matte Key' effect on your video footage and set the Track selector to the track which has the shape on it. Make the shape fill completely white and it should work. I think it's a bit too complicated but helps if want a more exact control over your shape

      Hey Jasmin - Those dynamic rectangles are part of the motioncan graphics pack shape category, it's a super useful pack that comes with a panel in Premiere Pro, so I just have to click to apply it to the timeline and the shape imports as a motion graphics template (mogrt) in the timeline from which I can update the color, size etc. Here is my affiliate link to the pack: 1.envato.market/TokoPr and here is a link to a video I made about motioncan: th-cam.com/video/iq4p40ixoCw/w-d-xo.html

    omggg. haven't had the tools visible for years, didn't even know about shape tool. my specific need is quickly masking photos with simple custom drawn rectangles (as basic as you can get, and yet way too many clicks/drags using that blasted opacity mask tool). "Mask with Shape" unfortunately won't work on photo clips, but I simply copied the path of the drawn rectangle and pasted into the opacity mask and badabing badaboom easy rectangle photo masking is finally possible in premiere.
