That 2024 clip of Nam talking actually made me incredibly depressed. Dude talks like an 80 year old man now, shit is heartbreaking to see him like this and still have to compete as well...
Problem with CTE is that it's impossible to isolate brain damage from MMA vs. brain damage from every other source, including alcohol/illicit substances. No one disagrees that Tony's brain is mashed potato right now, but the drugs (prescription and illegal both) combined with a lifetime of heavy drinking probably have something to do with it.
I like the light hearted approach to this. People who don't can look up CTE on You tube and find many thousands of heavy handed feel-bad videos on the topic. didn't think I would learn anything from this but you mentioned Cat Zingano and I had no idea.
You made me laugh at some serious, traumatic situations. Great video. Jokes aside, CTE is the reason i don't want to become a pro and just do it as a fitness hobby or something.
I'm actually looking to get into the UFC in the near future, so this video makes me glad that I won't suffer from the same thing given the biology of my body and how I grew up. Not saying it's impossible though of course, just not from this sport.
This is a pretty interesting topic being presented in the worst most obnoxious way possible. If you didn't have all the stick figure bits it'd be good though.
@@cenktoplar8378 Yeah, but mma has different head strikes, boxing you're only recieving blows from hands with pillow gloves, in MMA not only the gloves are smaller but you also get kicked to the head, elbowed, and ground n pounded, watch the Leon Edwards ko over Kamaru Usman or the Poatan ko over Jiri, both ko'ed by head kick, shin to the head, it felt like they were being hit by a baseball bat.
@@cenktoplar8378 Also MMA athletes spar a lot, not only striking but takedowns are also adding to cte, as many of times they fall with their backs to the canvas hitting their heads in the ground, i've seen a guy being knocked out in a bjj gym like that.

@@reign5563 yeah, in any sport basically, the difference is in any other sport, getting hit on the head is accident while in combat sports is just part of the game. You can be a dominant champ in many sports and don't ever get hit on the head while in fighting is basically impossible to be champ without absorving a good amount of significant strikes.
They have to quit using the period pads they've got on their hands. That's why bare knuckle fighting is much better, instead of them pounding each other into meatcakes in the head since the gloves dampens the power so much... UFC is a tad better than boxing when it comes to this, while the supposed "understanders" look at it the other way around, when it's much better with a clean knockout than 50 pad punches. Also UFC people are cowards for trying to cut weight to get a smaller opponent, and have misunderstood completely when they even try to make that part of how supposedly tough they are, when really it's just coward shit to do that in martial art. People should rather be weight checked out of the blue by a weight checking team throughout the year that uses their average weight for the whole calendar year, so they can't starve themselves like supermodels only eating pink baby carrots for their mismatch match weigh-in like they do, when they even fry themselves in the saunas.

You mention the sig strikes they took in their career, but this doesn’t take into account sparring. It would be tens of thousands.

In Tito’s case it might just be stupidity rather than CTE!

Stupidity and a not so good sense of humor
I think Tony might have had about 5/6 fights after a significant CTE episode

Lmao you did great love the Tony part. No time no time😂
Tony just crazy fr
Ufc referees should learn a thing about this, respect for putting it to light
I'm thinking Nam Phan must have gotten a serious TBI, maybe even from an accident. He's worse than Max, Justin and Nate/Nick. It doesn't add up.

Boxing has higher possibility for CTE. There many cases for boxers that we dont even hear nothing.
MMA is a young sport compared to boxing, in a few years there will be more cases in mma for sure.

Me, myself and TBI is a diabolical name!
Tony is actually schizophrenic and that explains his weird behaviour, before having cte.

OneFC doesn’t allow weight cutting.
Can CTE BE CURE??
I don’t think so 😞
All you can do is treat symptoms. If anything, it gets worse over time.
