Phil's Ultralight Pilot Training - Part 1

- Phil begins his "Ultralight Pilot" training in Lodi, CA. The closest and ONLY ultralight training in the area is there. California Sport Aviation is owned and operated by Bill Bardin, an experienced and accomplished pilot in his own right, as well as an instructor for LSA (i.e. Sport Pilot License) and Ultralight aircraft familiarization. The videos will be in segments so don't forget to check back regularly for additional segments. The ride in a chair bolted to a bunch of tubing, wires, fabric and engine - is a RUSH!!! You have to try it.
I went on a 30 min intro ride with Bill Bardin. He was such a professional and real gentleman. I wish I lived closer..... really cool setup.
So you've gone recently? I'm considering it and I live fairly close. I've done a sky dive there many years ago.
@@CyberAbyss007 it was a couple years ago 2021
Awesome Job Phil. I can't wait to see more content. The sky is the limit ;)
It's inspirational to see a person chasing his dreams. Thanks for the motivation. One day this could be me!
Shoot for it, believe it, and you'll achieve it. Blue skies and Tailwinds...... :)
That's awesome, very happy for you. Can't wait to see you in the air!
You can bet I will video ALL my Aerolite flight tests and flying. Stay tuned.
Well, that’s 13 minutes and eight seconds of my life I am never going to get back! Once the engine was on, I couldn’t understand anything anybody said.
One of those times i should have read comments first.
At least I know what must be like for a deaf person who can't read lips going to class with a teacher who doesn't sign.
I just hope somehow I learned enough for my flight in the morning.
I'll have to "wing" it
No way! I was just looking up random ultralight training videos and this one is with the instructor I'm looking at, Bill Bardin.
I wish we could hear you and the instructor.
Wish there was audio commentary!! Invest in a good audio adapter.
Would love to be able to hear the instructor
Eh.
Just wing it
DC-3 parked in the corner over there! 12:23 😀
would be nice to hear the instructor ?
Instructor: Ekjh fdkj ln er lk plik jib! Okay? If you don't do that, you've bought the farm!"
Student: W-What?
Instructor: Okay, you're got the controls."
That's great. I was taking flying lessons in the summer for my Private Pilot License, but decided I wanted to go with sport pilot instead. My closest training CFI is in Las Vegas from San Diego, Ca.
Your CFI for the Private Pilot license can give instruction for the sport pilot license. But the sport pilot instructor can not give instruction for the Private Pilot.
Is bill barden still teaching?!
I do wish I could e heard the instructors audio.
I was waiting for it to fly but i liked it anyway
Great to see you taking lessons and I am looking forward to seeing you go solo for the first time. Believe me it will be worth it for all the time and effort you put into building your 103.
Thanks, and I agree 100%. Stay tuned for all the details of training. Squawk VFR. :)
All I heard was the motor???
I wish that we could hear the pilot
You ended video before take off! 😢
So did you learn to fly the Quick Sliver first then the Aerolite 103 ?
Warning. Skip to part 2 for high speed taxi practice. If you want to see him fly, go straight to part 3.
Did you ever hear of a guy getting run over by his own tractor and die in the field. Yeah, it's pretty common. Can you see why this might be similar?
Ultralights are inherently dangerous compared to real aircraft. As long as you know that and accept the facts, more power to ya. These "planes" crash at about 10 times more often than real aircraft.
Would like to get into flying ultralights. I live in Tulsa, and would like to know if any electric ultralights are worth purchasing. Not interested in the loud gas motors.
Follow your dream. Electric is starting to become popular so be patient. I'm sure you can find, and/or build one. Good luck!!
I’m looking to get lessons at the same location, how many flights/hours in total does it take to get your license?
If you're thinking about it, you are halfway there. Just jump in and make the call to Bill. If you want strictly 103 you'll just need training. I started off in the Quicksilver. Loved it. When I took a ride in the low wing Evektor Sportstar that's when I got hooked. I'm now training for my Sport Pilot certificate. I'll do ultralights too until I can afford a plane. Once I saw this video last May, that's when I made the call to Bill to training. Thanks Phil. Hope to see you soon above our Central Valley ...

Bill is good people. Enjoy the time/training with him. I may go back on occasion to fly with him for added pointers.
I also saw that Sportstar and thought LSA/Sport Pilot License. Nice thing about that, as Bill said, is that I can apply the ultralight time towards the Sport Pilot certificate and be ahead of the game. Fly safe!
Well, that didn't answer your question.
I know nothing about any of this, but idt you need a license to fly ultra light.
Just rc quad copter
Chocks! use chocks, while the aircraft is unattended with a running engine.
Hope to meet up with you if my plans work out!! Really want to get one of these and the relevant training too !!
Can't hear the other guy
It should have had sound...for both people.
Haven't taken the time to upgrade my video and audio equipment yet. It's not cheap. I'm working on it.
Where's the training? All I see is some guy flying around. No instruction but talking about it for free advertising.
Is that Phil and Bill there flying that Quicksilver...with no helmets?...Ah, they're hair pilots...
LOL....Helmets? For what? I am a biker being forced to comply. My life. MY CHOICE!
If I don't have to wear one I personally love the weight difference and freedom you feel. And I'm unafraid. When your time's up, your time is up.
The Wright Brothers didn't wear anything until leather became popular. But all that said a helmet will not save you from a catastrophic failure and subsequent meeting the earth un-expectedly. Yer gonna die! But we actively try NOT to do that. Sorry for the delay in responding.
Put a JetCat P1000 PRO Turbine on that
cloud condition did not look suitable for flying in microlight also you seem to be over correcting the aircraft should’ve let it fly just keep the altitude up of just my opinion
never heard a word od instruction. this is just another me me me video.
Fuel drips on me while in seat? Pass.
He said it didn't leak while running, either way an O ring is an easy fix
No sound???
One day. Still working towards that and other TH-cam creator fringes.
Without intelligible audio I don't see the point of posting this video and call it "Pilot Training."
I believe it was his training which he was nice enough to put these videos up... It says pilot training, not training video for you
I know right
All that and no flight WTF!!!!!!!!°°°
Biggest waste of 13:18 I'll never get back
He lost me at fuel leak.
Way too noisy for me sorry
Useless... Can't hear a thing.
Audio is crap
