Very informative video. This looks like a great starting point for a build I want to do this winter. I am wanting to build an alternator for my diesel power sailboat to retire my 30-year-old Ample Power 108A externally regulated alternator. It was built on the old Delco DN10 case with rewound rotor and stator and better diodes to increase the output and durability. At 2.27 you were pointing to an AC stator tap. Does this have a pin-out in the connector that I can use to give my alternator driven tachometer its signal? Is there an easy way to eliminate the internal regulator so that I can use my 3-stage smart regulator from my old Ample Power? What is the power output on this unit? My primary need from the alternator is to recharge my 560Ah LiFePo4 (LFP) battery bank. Because it will accept the full output of any alternator for hours on end, I need the external regulator so that I can current limit the output by controlling the field. I assume that this is a B-type rotor. Is there a way to convert it to an A-type. For my needs this is a safer method. My preference would be to bring both of the brush connections to the outside with case-isolated terminals. The 3-stage charging is important becuse for saftest operation, my LFP wants to bulk and short absorb at 14.1v but after maybe 30-minutes at most should drop to a float voltage of 13.5v. My external reguator does all of that along with reducing output if the alternator case gets too hot but that means external regulation is a must.
Thanks for the video, I just changed mine out yesterday. It did take me about 20 mins only because I didnt want to break anything but anyone can do it.
At 2:58 what is the new part your putting in because you mentioned you don't like self-exciting regulators is this not a regulator? And isn't all regulators feed by PCM?
At 2:28, the AC stater cap. What’s the part called to replace that if it gets broken off because someone who is totally not me may have broken it off! I tried looking up the AC stater cap but I think it’s probably apart of some other part.
I currently have a 250 amps alt from js alternator. Right now I have it “Plug and Play”. Do you think that by doing this it can help out my rpm’s from bouncing? Always when my bass drops my rpm’s shakes. I have: big 3, 1/2 shorter belt, sec battery.
Will this work on a 2018 Toyota Camry with the single wire LIN bus style? If so, does this also eliminate the voltage from dropping to around 12-12.8 volts when idling in gear at a stop light?
@@DjR3aperIf you have the two wire system it is the Smart system on the Toyota. It should default to around 13.8 if you unplug the lead... You'll get a check light but it should still charge at 13.8
Do you offer a conversion kit for the 2011 pcm controlled 5.3 gm vehicles? I was thinking like alternator, wiring harness and all to get off the pcm and keep the light off.
Hello. Is this what is needed for my HO alternator? I have a 2003 chevy express van. The regular alternator works fine but when I swap it with the HO alternator the voltage goes up and down.
Hey I have a question I installed a pwm controler on my gm 2 pin alternator and now I have a battery light what can I do with the extra unused wire from the pcm to get rid of the light ???
I want to bypass the PCM because everything works except the charge to my battery. So far I installed new battery and new alternator, and I would like to bypass the PCM using external voltage regulator now this is not working either and I wonder it's because the alternator has a built-in regulator that prevents it from getting excited. What are your thoughts?
I have a 06 dodge dakota, 3.7lv6. 200amp alt, but they didn't put right regulator in. So I just ordered a GM 14.8v regulator w/plug. How do I wire it to bypass pcm?
Update: I have the new 14.8 gm regulator installed now, but, not sure of it because my old regulator for my Dodge, held the 2nd screw on the brush housing... Only 1 screw is holding the housing. I'm not even sure if the 2nd hole has to have a screw to be grounded🤷🤷🤷. I'll know when I install and crank my truck. I can't seem to find advice so I'm going to learn the hard way with the old dreaded moment thinking it's a fail when I hit the key
Do you have a kit for a 96 GM v8 5.7. I have a 78 nova and I converted to serpentine belt using the 96 GM brakes and alternator application. My alternator is not charging and I can’t find the issue so I’m trying to bypass the internal regulator.
I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 with flickering headlights and after replacing alternator with remanufactured AC Delco 145 amp arlternator and learned it may be the actual regulator itself. What brand (Denso or other) and part number of regulator should I get? Thank you!
Ac delco regulators are not interchangeable with denso regulators, also there is 3 different regulators you may need to work with your vehicle / alternator revision from ac delco
@@brandxelectrical, thank you very much! I don’t think the issue I’m having is what your great video relates too as far as keeping a hi charge output as that is how I perceive it.. All of my lights flicker/pulse and I read on a FB post forum that one individual learned through research that there have been issues with Delco’s internal regulators have been known to cause it. I replaced the alt on my truck with 254K miles on in it as the diodes fried, yet, up to that point never a flicker. A reman alternator was installed on 10/20/20 before setting the clocks back and it wasn’t until I was driving more in the dark that I first noticed the flicker a few weeks ago. Also, the same forum suggest taking alt off, cleaning all mounting and reinstall may eliminate problem. I thought that if there is alternate brand of regulator, I’d remove the Delco and install it for service and end the flickering for good. Thanks again!

You can use ignition off your stock plug to wire it up. And S to your stock plug as well. If you’re looking at the regulator on the stock alt top left *of the clip point* is ignition. Top right is sense.
Jonathan Patrick so ignition to f, sense to s and then warning light/or resistor to L. And if I want to wire in diode put it on s terminal? And is this looking at stock plug from back of alt or front?
