  • For nearly two centuries, mystery and intrigue has surrounded the legendary Fabergé. This year, as a new decade dawns, we welcome you on a voyage of discovery with our latest film: ‘The Journey of a Fabergé Egg’. Opening the doors of our discreet workshops nestled in the Black Forest, watch our Palais Tsarskoye Selo Turquoise Locket with Heart Surprise come to life at the hands of true artisans. The workshops are overseen by our appointed workmaster Dr Marcus Mohr - fourth generation of Victor Mayer, a 130-year-old family business well versed in the art of guilloché and enamelling.

I have an egg necklace, from pieces (much simpler and cheaper than the ones in this video) I have added over many years. Some are just polished semiprecious stone, a couple are gold, some are enamelled silver, some are just enamelled “metal”. I have to take special care of it, since the eggs knock together, which risks the enamel being chipped off (such damage is common in pieces worn often). I like to wear it at Easter time.

You should cherish it, not wearing all day and not at night haha.
The original bell epoque ones by Michael Perkhin are much more special and extreme quality.
The new ones are to wear because they are not that rare.

Centuries ago, when they were made for the Russian Tsar, they were quite a bit larger, more so than a chicken egg, more along the lines of an ostrich egg.
To my understanding, the jeweler who was commissioned to make them each year for the Tsar (to give to his wife as a gift), actually used a real egg and adorned it with diamonds, gold, gems and anything else luxurious at the time. They were deemed as an extremely precious item, more so than today, and *only* the Tsar would be able to have them commissioned.

@@sirenelectric143 that wasn’t the goal of Fabergé. It wasn’t about bling. It was about highlighting the design and craftsmanship. Anyone with enough money can assemble a bunch of brilliant cut diamonds and impress the naïve. But to craft something that invites close inspection, that feels pleasing to the fingers, well that appeals to the buyer with taste.

I would like to invite you to model a 3D model like in this film, the software is free (Blender), if you manage to replicate it, just let us know.
