    I love the way this show chooses to thread story lines across episodes to show the story from different perspectives. This show is doing very well, so much so I'm enjoying the human interaction more than the mushroom men, although they are wonderfully visualised and very terrifying. And that ending. Christ

    My favorite thing about this episode is:
    Shaun: "What are they going to do?"
    Tom: "I DON'T KNOW, SHAUN! I DON'T KNOW!" lol
    But yeah, Tom. These episodes get me emotional too. I call this phenomenon "not being able to get over episode 3 masterpiece". The acting is amazing and I think Melanie (Kathleen's actress) wanted us to feel angry at her but her reasoning was so believable. the good thing about The Last of US is that you can't find villains or good guys. Joel's killed a lot of people and innocent ones too. It all comes down to perspective and who you believe in the most.

    The narrative of the game by Neil Druckman is already a great storytelling, and then enter Craig Mazin and both made a phenomenal TV adaptation. This is how a storytelling should be, show and don't tell, let the audiences interprete it, have a discussion about it, even arguments over it. The best thing about this story (TLoU) in my opinion is how they have a pretty good understanding in human psychology and emotions because those are the most complex things you can write about and quite often is difficult to translate into a show.

    First of all, Shaun you chose to read my comment so it's not me spoiling the thing in the ground for you, it was you spoiling it to yourself by reading my comment and then digging through your memory for the answer. :D
    I think Tom's comment in the beginning about how emotional he gets about this show could be explained by the fact that he's a dad now. Because this show, while it's wrapped into this sort of infected/zombie cover, is actually about humans and about parenthood. Of course it would hit Tom differently now?
    I loved this episode's action a lot. It was so well done. I also enjoyed the Henry and Sam storyline a lot, and I get why they chose to make it so different from the game, too. It serves a much bigger purpose here, especially when it's added to the Kathleen storyline. There are so many little speeches and things that revolve around the same theme, echoing one another perfectly in this episode. Such a great one again!
    Also, the acting. Whoa boy. Everyone is just so good. Oh and this was the first role of the little boy playing Sam, can you belive?

      He was bit on his wrist. The chart had the anatomy of a human and how long they last is dependent on where they're bitten. The closer to the brain, the quicker death is. The boy had an open wound like Sam. He wasn't scarring like Ellie. And he should of been since he must of walked a long time.

    Sam's death had much more weight to me in the show because he was younger than Sam in the game. The actor who played Sam did a great job -- so did the actor who played Henry. I really got to like them in such a short time. Even knowing the outcome, it hit really hard when it happened.

  • @TomTomson81
    @TomTomson81 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you noticed that you only see real shown brutality here when Ellie sees it? That was the moment when Joel beat Fedra to death in episode 1, Ellie was there. All other kills by Joel were not shown explicitly. Ellie tortures and kills the walker in the basement, it has been shown. All the violence on the battlefield in this episode has been shown. Joel's sniper kills too. The Brothers deads it's been shown. Ellie was there. All other deaths not, instead you only saw Ellie and heard the appropriate sounds to the death scenes.
    Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish.
    The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised (unspoken with hope) Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save".
    Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. "I didn't ask for this" were her words in episode 2.
    Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's. And while Joel gradually finds his humanity again and lets people into his life again, Ellie loses a little more of herself and she takes the lead here in the end.
    I think the series showed that more clearly in this way than the game did.
    In addition, Ellie and Joel have reached a new level of connection with each other. Wordless understanding. Both wanted to save the brothers during the attack. That wasn't Joel's "don't do it Ellie" look. That was the look "I'll give you fire protection Ellie". And Ellie has absolute confidence in Joel.
    There was also a little joke about the game. The moment when the sniper shot and Henry and Sam senselessly ran out of cover, only to return immediately. This is how Ellie behaved very often in the game. She ran out of cover, right in front of the enemy and then back again.
    Spoiler Part 2 Game:
    Oh yes and btw we all hate Kathleen for what she does. She subordinates everything to her revenge. How do we know this? Part 2. There are 2 main characters we all love does nothing else.

    I liked Lynskey and her character Kathleen in the show because she is not one you see as the typical villain. But everyone can change into one regarding the circumstances, and that shows it clearly. But I still wasn't convinced by her because her story wasn't really fleshed out enough. HOW did she (and her people) overthrow FEDRA? I see cruelty and ruthlessness in her but not necessarily a strategic mastermind. I wish they would have told more about how she became their real leader.

  • @joep_christopher
    @joep_christopher ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I also love how the titles match the theme of the episodes. "Endure and Survive." Joel, Ellie, Henry and Sam had to endure the hard trek facing the rebels and the infected horde and survived through it, but then Joel and Ellie had to endure yet another lost and go on their own to survive. This tagline from the Savage Starlight comics fully captures the theme for the whole story of The Last of Us. Truly a devastating episode and awesome reaction from you both. Cheers!

    TLOU has only good episodes so far. And the acting is amazing! The whimpered scream Ellie let's out when Henry shots himself after shooting his brother is visceral and so real, great acting by Bella. Also, yes those big ones are called bloaters and killed Perry (also, og voice actor of Tommy in the game, apparently) the same way they kill you in the game. Also, I think Ellie trying to help Sam can be seen different ways, but imagining what everyone told her since she was bitten, her being the cure, her age and all that, it could very well be that she thought and at least really hoped that her blood would help him. It's so sad, but also I thought it was amazing showing us that it does not work just like that, bc they never did in the game, if I remember correctly. Lastly, just to reiterate: Sam isn't Henry's son, but his little brother. Loved your reactions and am looking forward to the next!

    So just a few missed points. It's a bloater, not bloomer. Kathleen kind of reminds me of Ms. Carmody from The Mist in how unexpectedly intimidating she can be. The boy that plays Sam is deaf in real life so he is so good in his reactions because he really does know what it's like to not have such an important sense while trying to survive something like this. And I really feel for Joel especially because this has to really scare him because he's realizing he is creating a relationship with Ellie that could end the same way...just like Sarah. Also I kind of loved that fact that Kathleen was so heartless about children and who killed her? An infected child!

    Cinema Rules had good character development this episode. I liked Boomy McBitey popping out of the hole wanting hugs. He needs hugs, Tom. Don't be miserly. Hug away. He's a fungi after all. (DON'T TRUST HIM SHAUN OF THE ALIVE, TOM SEEMS FUNGUSUS.)

    They haven't done it all the time, but whenever something utterly tragic happens, instead of showing it, they'll cut away to Ellie's reaction. They did it with Henry's sucide, when Joel stabbed Bryan to death, and somewhat when Tess sacrificed herself in the museum. It puts you in her head. It worries you with how this must be affecting her.

    I’m just going to lather myself in anti-fungal cream and walk through the hordes of fungal-undead like Richard Ashcroft singing in the Bittersweet Symphony video…at least until a bloater appears, in which case I may increase my pace from leisure to brisk.

    Kathleen every single time she was on the screen pissed me off too not just you guys😂. Her gentle voice and appearance is far from intimidating or convincing that she’s a leader of a rebel group

      She's only been the leader for maybe 2 weeks. And the whole point is that she's not a leader. She's just a grieving sister that allowed revenge to destroy lives. Anger gets shit done, but it's too volatile to maintain any sort of stabilization.

      Did you miss the part where she executed her own doctor, killed dozens of people without a second thought, and stood in the middle of a swarm of infected prepared to kill the man who turned in her brother? Did you miss the part where Perry said they followed her because she was able to change things? Did you watch the show at all?
