    Had the rockers replaced under warranty on my S5 at 60k and a number of techs I talked with said they think the issue was related to the lubricity of the 0w20, more specifically the Castrol that was the oil first used, and my guys also suggested moving to the same oil the RS5 was using in Europe which were the 502 and 504 oils. Since moving to the heavier oil I've had no issues. As for the transmission, ZF told me that it's absolutely not a lifetime fill unless by lifetime Audi means end of lease or end of an extended warranty. ZF suggested filter and fluid every 60 to 70 thousand miles which is line with every other ZF equipped car I've owned. It's a pain because you need to removed the trans mount crossmember and support the rear of the transmission to get to the rear screws, but it's once every 70k so it's worth the effort. Good time to pop in a 034 mount while you are there.
    I just did the gasket on the filter housing, it's an easy job, and if you are burning more oil than you think you should, look around the oil cooler and if you see some pooling oil think about doing the filter housing gasket. And use the new black gasket.
    My diff fluid looked fantastic at 100k, but then I don't track it at all, if I did I'd change it much sooner. Just rolled over 120,000 and the car runs as well as the day it was new.

    AWESOME VIDEO! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all the steps. I noticed one minor error you might have corrected off camera. You raised the transmission up and started draining ATF side TransferCase Oil I was waiting for you to lower the transmission to make sure all of the oil got out of it. Just something I noticed.
    Im a bit of a gear head myself and love working on my B9 S4 instead of having a shop touch it.
    Keep up the good work, everyone in the B9/9.5 community will thank you for this video as their is almost no video’s on how to do all the transmission and transfer case oil changes.

    When filling the engine oil either don’t reinstall the oil filter or pull the dipstick plug. It helps to displace the air in the engine and the oil will fill faster and gurgle less.

    Great tutorial. Only I thing I would add is dark oil (at least for the engine) isn’t an indication of failing lubricating properties anymore like it was in mineral oil. Synthetic oils today use detergents that help clear engine components of their soot, this explains why you can have dark oil even after 3K intervals. If you send a sample to a lab, you will see they will confirm this.

    In my opinion, engine oil change correct steps are:
    * Take out the oil filter (first)
    * lift the vehicle
    Undo oil drain plug (drain the old oil)
    * Tight the drain plug
    Lower down the vehicle
    * instal new oil filter (change O ring)
    * Filled up with new oil (quantity as per manual)
    If you do not take out the oil filter before draining the oil there's about 0.7 l old oil left in the engine from the oil filter housing and lines.

      Correct, this can happen because with no top ventilation, a vacuum can occur and fluid can stay trapped. It's best practice to crack your oil fill cap and remove the oil filter before draining for proper flow.

    • @Need4Built
      @Need4Built  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would suggest draining it while the transmission is warm, not hot, not cold. Reason for that is so you don’t burn your hands unless you’re okay with thick gloves haha, but also working around everything is better when it’s warm, not burning hot. Also the fluid will drain quicker when it’s hot or warm.

      Not on purpose lol. However after speaking to Audi/Porsche tech’s and hearing their opinion’ would like an explanation to why they would they claim all of the above is lifetime when it’s not according to ZF. For example the RS5 has a service interval while the S4/S5/SQ5 with the same drivetrain, doesn’t.
      Concerning the 5w-40 oil, there are a ton of factors, but also there is some truth to the emissions, gas mileage, and less maintenance cost for marketing reasons. Maybe if Audi sees this video, they can reach out to me an provide answers. Also those Audi engineers never expected these cars to push 700+HP

So when one of those fails, coolant will be one of those things that will be replaced no matter what. PS. If one of those 2 things fails and need to be replaced - thermostat or water pump- just replace them both as It will save you over $1200 down the road. It's the same labor cost to get to that spot. I was told by another Audi technician that it’s not an issue but the red top is what’s actually needed. Fixed!

      Service schedules are driven by lease companies and a 4 year life time, in those years the cost of servicing needs to be as low as possible that’s why there are, no more 1000 mile run in service and 2 year 20,000 mile service schedules are the norm, plus phrases like ‘life time, sealed’ units…
      This is NOT driven by advancements in engineering, design or materials. Manufactures and lease companies have worked together so most vehicles will last the warranty and lease periods then they just don’t care.
      ZF who manufacture the gearbox states a service schedule.
