Been flying 1/2As full A Combat, Stunt, Patterns since early 50s. Was a big McCoy fan, Forrester,KB, Cox, Johnson Voodoo with a a pressure tank. Put on an Model Air Show while in Air Force in the 60s.

Got a K&B 40 sr2 in a wing foam wing similar to a voodoo. It's thrill to fly. I was worried about it folding. I also had voodoo with a 40 in it so I know it's something you don't forget in a hurry. Saw a voodoo fold on a turn with a webra 40 speed in it.

The timer/controller could offer so much. It would be great if it could replicate the effect of a well set up Fox 35 four/two stroke switching in manoeuvres with an automatic power power lift (perhaps by incorporating a gyro or accelerometer sensor). It would be good if it offered the option of a more traditional warning of running out of fuel by running at 80% power for most of the flight and ripping up to full bore at the end like we got as the engine leaned out as the tank ran dry. This would appeal to those of us so old we can't learn anything new!

I had a lot of fun flying line control in the 70's and 80's mostly Cox powered .049 models . I owned the pt 19 trainer , P-51 Mustang the Sport Flyer and the Stuka .

Clean, and consistent power. Electric U/C planes are a step up from glow power. Constant speed through the pattern, a firm pull on the lines. JB handles it well.

I prefer gas, the noise, the smoke trail, the challenge of tuning to that constant speed, the accomplishment of getting that, and oh also the cleaning the airplane after each flight.

There's place for both. Looking into getting nephew into it. Electric would be easier.

And no oil messy clean up, I do miss the smell and excitement of the glow plug engines.

    Hello Robert-Jan from Holland,
I'm using a Will Hubin Timer and Programmer (from the USA) coupled to a Castle Creations Ice Lite 50 ESC.
    The Lipo is a Zippy compact 2700 x 5 cell x 25c
The prop is now a Barry Robinson (from the UK) 11" x 6" three blade wood pusher with the motor reversed (not a two blade tractor as shown in the vid).
I use just a tiny amount of lead in the tail which allows the model to balance
3" back from the Leading Edge.
    All up weight is 51ozs.
    Hope this all helps...JB.

There was a time before the term "noise pollution" that people flew their Fox, Veco, Supretigre 35's without mufflers. You could hear them for miles, and it was unmistakeable what was going on.

Ellis Mellinger yes and the noise made by r/c or even c/l glow or diesel engines don't matters...

Tom Benson my ear sensitive loss is because music in high levels - I'm musicist - more than the noise of hobby engines and, obviously, my age - 65 by now !

Nice. Reminded me of my old C/L days. Sure wish we had that technology back then, instead of the castor oil mess we had to clean up after every flight (not to mention washing your clothes, which reeked of spent castor oil). Recognized all your maneuvers .. your triangles and hour glass could use some practice .. ha ha. Did I see a cloverleaf .. or an attempt at one? I flew stunt, combat, slow combat and sport C/L. Then I went to RC. I got a thrill a dozen years ago when a buddy invited me out to fly some slow combat with an old ringmaster and TF Flight Streak. We had a great time .. not many cuts, but no crashes either. I assume you were using 60 ft 6in. lines? (SS braided?) Thanks for sharing!

An ordinary r/c esc can be used for c/l flying, it may be set to 30 sec delay and a 5,7 minutes of flying, too ?

Yep, that was an expert pattern. Very nice. I have a Brodak Cardinal kit on the table now. Power will be an LA46. I've just moved into Advanced, hoping to some day fly as crisp a pattern as that.

I have a Genesis .46 set up for a Supertigre .46. Is there electric power I could use?

  • @adamcrookedsmile
    @adamcrookedsmile 8 ปีที่แล้ว

how does that work if you want to do two more flights, do you have many batteries and charge them all before going to the field, or do you somehow charge them in the field?
Is the electric motor speed regulated so it stays at the same speed?

Would be nice for practice. Remember wiping all the lubricant off the plane after a flight? :P I remember I got some on my car's paint once and it took the clear coat off.

    Hi JB,
    What setup are you using.
Do you have lead in the tail for balance.
    I also have a Cardinal.
I removed the leading edge so the batery could go as far as possible.
Even with this modification I had to shorten the nose to get rid of the tail weight.
    Greetings Robert-Jan (Holland)
