Thank you so much for watching.
In today's video I show you how I made a scrap fabric footstool using Cath Kidston upholstery weight fabric scraps. I used my overlocker to created sturdy seams. Thank you for watching

Emma I make a slip cover style cover with no base. I make it quite snug and it’s easy to remove and wash regularly. As for the overlocker threading, take the thread out of the tension dials and knot the threads below that level. Put the new thread in the tension dials and that should work for you. Love the fabric. Good luck in your new studio.
Great tip thank you! And I didn’t think of the slip cover idea but I think I will remove the base and adjust it, thank you!
Love the footstool
Great job Emma things like that can be challenging your studio looks beautiful bright and clean so enjoy your new space from southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks so much! 😊
I love the footstool! So happy….
Your stool turned out lovely, Emma. It really suits you and your room❤ This was very educational actually - one looks at a cylindrical pouffe like that and thinks, "Oh, I could cover that easily!" Ha ha...... Thank you for sharing with us that it's more tricky than it appears!!! Using velcro was a great idea! As you say, the bottom edge is not seen anyway. Woohoo - that's one studio decor job done, and it's gorgeous. 🎉
(Awww ... I miss the Cath Kidson shop in Belfast☹️)
Haha so true, it was tricky! I really miss the shops too 😔
You could treat it as a slip cover..the orginal cover all ready has a dark bottom designed to get dirty.. take the bottom u made off.. use that fabric to make welt cord/pipping (use whatever size cotton rope or cord you like) .. unstitch that side and tighten it up a bit... shorten the length a bit, run the welt along the bottom hem so that it barely grazes the floor when set down.. and that way u can just pull it off when u need to wash ir
Yes that’s a great idea! Thanks so much!
I cut each thread by the cone, tie on the new thread and then pull each one through separately to prevent the knot from catching on anything in the machine. It's the fastest method by far!
Will try that next time thanks!
Hi Emma
I cut the thread on each spool one at a time and then tie a very thin knot with the color I want and pull each thread one at a time . I put all 4 threads tension to 0. After all the thread is through I put tension back to normal. I have done this for many years because I struggle with threading also. Love the Fabrics for the foot stool. Thank you for sharing . You are such a sweet young lady. Bless you.
❤
Great tip will try that next time, thank you!
Love the footstool but I do have a soft spot for Kath Kidson fabrics. The best bit of advice I got when I bought my overlocker was to spend an hour just threading it from start to finish. If you are going to tie the threads you have to do it below the tension discs and I just use the wheel to manually feed the threads as the knots won’t go through the needles. Your new studio is looking great and will be a lovely work space.
That’s great advice, thank you
A drawstring around the base might have worked? Lovely project.
Yes good idea, thanks so much
Such a pretty footstool Emma and it really does brighten up the corner in your studio. I saw in your email that classes will begin soon and so I wish you all the great success you truly deserve. xx
Oh thank you! Really appreciate that 🤗🌸
Such pretty fabric and you are skilled and gifted with much patience. I love your studio! ❤

Thanks so much Alison!x
Lovely footstool
Thank you Sue
Hello Emma, your studio is coming on a real treat, looks lovely, thanks for sharing today. Enjoyed it as always. I can see why I don’t have an over, ocher, I don’t think I would ever get my head around it. I haven’t used my sewing machine in a while, I had to think hard before using that, hehe
Thank you Karen, yes they can be really complex and there are lots of things to go wrong on them!
Wow love this fabric , I would love to do a stool for my sewing space, this is great
Thank you! Hope you make one too 😊🌸
Very pretty Emma. I have a love/hate relationship with my overlocker and try to avoid re-threading as much as possible. However when they work they are brilliant!
That’s so true! Thanks for watching
Love my lamp!
So glad you love it too!
I Loveeeees the fabric. So lovely.
Thank you!
I love florals too Emma. Just lovely.
Thank you Kathy!
Beautiful fabrics, foot stool looks great and goes well in your studio 😍
Thank you! 😊
I wonder how many folk "spot" stuff they have too. Today it was your dress (very pretty, but mine is a tad too long and I've obviously decided to go the "difficult" route and not just take up the hem ...) and one of the rose fabrics - blue with the smaller rose design - that came as part of the kit with the Cath Kidston book to make a bag. It turned out to be far too small a bag to be of practical use, so I think it will end up as sewing related items - no fabric goes to waste.
Lovely job Emma...very pretty.Thank you for sharing it with us.Good luck with your new venture.x
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thanks for watching
Well done. You’re an inspiration, as always.
Thank you very much!
Love your new footstool. Looks lovely in your new studio and bye the way, your new studio looks great in your videos. A place for everything and everything in its place.
Thanks so much! So glad you like the look of it 🌸
Hello - Haven't watched this yet as it is the middle of the day here and I am still buzzing around the house. But the title caught my eye so I had to comment. I have a foot stool staring at me that needs recovering and I'd love to do it in patchwork so cannot wait until tonight when I can rest and enjoy. ❤️
I enjoyed this video and liked your cover. The fabrics are lovely. Looked challenging making the cover. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Jacqueline, it was a challenge but got there in the end. I hope you enjoy making yours 😊🌸
Looks lovely Emma 💕🌸🦋
Thank you! 🤗
Well done in your quick thinking, I had a hick up today with cosmetic bag I am making, I but a stiff Pelion in the centre , but it was glued both sides so I thought great the outer and lining in one, it was only later I thought that’s rubbish as you will see all the joins . Sadly I couldn’t correct my silly idea. , but the foot stool looks lovely, well done on you great idea,
Thanks for sharing today.
Thank you Karen, we all have those moments don’t we, and quite often we are the only ones who would even notice the mistake, I bet no one will notice your joins 🌸
Great job
Thank you!
I'm with you all the way with doing things by eye! 😄 It's a lovely addition to your studio!
Yay, thank you!
That’s beautiful fabric Emma, just gorgeous. The new space is looking fab! So so happy for you
Thanks so much! 😊
Pretty fabric!! I love the footstool cover. I was thinking a drawstring or Velcro for a closure? great job.. ❤❤
Thank you! I used velcro but I think a drawstring might be better
So lovely! I love the fabrics, the idea, the construction - I greatly enjoy watching your videos. Thank you!
Aww thank you! So glad you enjoy watching x
Loved the fabrics you used Emma and your new office looks sooo good! It must be great to have so much space to spread everything out and have what you need easily available. I'm working out of a small bedroom that I converted and I'm so jealous of how much space you have compared to my cramped, overflowing workroom🙂
Thank you Elaine, I feel lucky to be in this space, if it wasn’t for having a business I would still be at home tripping over things! Thanks for watching
Oh the foot stool is so pretty, did a good job . Love your little place . Take care
Thanks so much!
Super cute! First video in the new studio and I like it!!!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching 😊
Stunning job Emma❤
Thank you! 😊
Bonsoir Emma 😊 j'adore 💕 le tissu est très beau 💕 merci pour ce partage
Merci beaucoup!
In upholstery we do not use sergers/overlock use an straight stitch, what makes the stitch strong is the thread.. using nylon .
Thank you!
I wonder if an elastic edge on the bottom would work? (Like a big showercap) It does look lovely.
Yes, great idea!
Nice. You could have made a draw string and cinched up the bottom. 👍🏼💞
Great idea!! Thank you
Looks great!! I also covered a round footstool and the bottom presented problems for me. I ended up just doing a slipcover and left the bottom open. You never saw the bottom anyway! Lol. Great job! Love the fabric choices. What is the name of the fabric brand again please? I would like to look into it. Thank you! P.s. love the new studio. It’s looking really pretty.
That’s a great idea I think I will go back and alter it! Thank you! It’s Cath kidston but they bring make much fabric anymore
❤❤❤ 🇨🇦
Just add a strong elastic around the bottom edge (add a band/channel around the bottom if the sides aren't long enough to turn underneath) and leave off the base altogether. No-one will know ....
Great idea!
Oh Emma, I would have just made a slip cover much less work for yourself.
I didn’t think of that, it really didn’t need a bottom to it, I think I will make adjustments when I get a chance
