I enjoyed the presentation of the variations. I've always associated the Aviation with a rich purple hue, but I've noticed that perhaps this is more an effect of photographic lighting. The actual color seems to be a very pale purple. I would be hesitant to add more violet liquor to the drink.
I'd agree, more violet would unbalance the cocktail. But there are color differences in the different liqueurs. If I remember correctly, Gifford's is less intense in color than Rothman & Winter. And I haven't had it (yet) but Bitter Truth makes one that has comes out a lot more blue.

I think OJ would come out a little too sweet, but I'm going to give that a try. Maybe clarified orange juice with a bit of extra acid. The name is too good not to try.

If you want a deep purple color, try to find Empress 1908 gin. It’s what I always use for Aviations and it’s a crowd pleasing color.
