This is one of the most emotional movies ever, especially for a man. To never give up, to get up every time you are hit down, is one of the most important lessons in life.
Absolutely appropriate to cry at the end. I like that you understood so well that even though Rocky didn’t win the fight he did win because he earned his own respect and the respect of others. I disagree though about the scene with Adrian. The reason she was so uncomfortable wasn’t because she didn’t like Rocky , it was because she felt unworthy and undesirable. She needed Rocky to be more assertive in order to break through her defenses. They are two lonely people who need love and are uniquely able to provide that for each other. It’s actually a very beautiful scene if you look at it through that lens.
This is 1 of my absolute all time favorite movies, I've watched it hundreds of times. I had cancer when i was a toddler, spent a lot of time in the hospital, and at home recovering as a kid. Stayin home, living on the coutch, watching TV. And this movie helped me through that, Every time, you watch it, by the end you get pumped, Ready to fight for your life. Endure what life throws at ya. Thank you for this awesome Reaction, D!
I saw this in the theater when I was 13 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday. The whole theater was yelling for Rocky, like we were at the real fight. My first movie star crush.
The whole scene where Mickey comes up to see him, Rocky has to get his frustration out, then goes out to train before dawn . . . gets me in the feelz every time.
First time? My man, prepare yourself. This film is the Genesis to my favorite film franchise of all time. There are more to these films than just boxing. There are heart, character, and life lessons all over. I will say that the fights are brutal, but well done and choreographed. The character is Sly's most iconic character of all time, and this film put him on the map, and he's been going ever since. We also lost the great Carl Weathers this year, as well as my mother(not the point, but she deserves the shoutout). These films will always have a special place in my heart.
I can't find confirmation online, but I swear it said maybe on like the DVD extras that Mickey actually forgot his hat for real. So when he touches his head and closes the door and Rocky comes out of the bathroom only to go back in, that was all unscripted.
Yeah, especially when you know that Rocky really likes her and wouldn't do anything to hurt her. She's so shy that she would rather be alone than take a chance. He's trying to get her out of her shell. It does seem creepy but it was very different than what we think.
The title of the movie is deeper than we take it. It's the story of Rocky and his life. Look at the change in both Rocky and Adrian after that first date. Look at the difference in Adrian's appearance when they're watching Rocky do the interview on tv. No more glasses, no more 4 gray sweaters, and you could see her face! And when Rocky came home and Adrian was waiting for him, he said, "Yo". Adrian stepped up to the top step and replied, "Yo!" And then she answered "Absolutely" to something else, and the joke about Butkus eating little turtles. Adrian needed an Alpha male to break that shell Paulie had her under. If some soft dude had approached Adrian it would never have worked. Adrian scored herself the heavyweight champion of the world. It all started with honesty and directness. No games. Kinda cringy, sure. But isn't getting to know each other uncomfortable at the beginning anyway, when you are testing boundaries, discovering each other? We might be better off if we were more honest with each other instead of hiding behind filters and political correctness.
Well Rocky had already been wooing her for who knows how long. Every morning, & every evening he was at the petshop to visit her, trying to make her smile, offering to walk her. As a woman who was once a lot like Adrian is portrayed here, it takes a pushy yet gentle guy to get past the terror, of being alone with a man intimately, for the 1st time. Also, back then men believed in the art of seduction. In this case, Rocky did seduce her, even though it wasn't necessarily that artful. But as someone else mentioned, straightforward is better than putting up a front.
Been with you for years. I was born in 73 and I'm so glad you watched this. Love you brother. And he was a little aggressive, but Adrian already was in love with Rocky. She was just so shy. That's why she said "Don't tease me".
So many amazing characters we fall in love with in this movie. Mickey, Adrienne, Apollo, Paulie... part 2 continues the story with heart. Part 3 and 4 are 80's bombast and keep taking the franchise to the stratosphere. Part 5 and later lose the magic but hope you enjoy them.
$40 in 1976 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $221.91 today, an increase of $181.91 over 48 years. $200 in 1976 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,108.26 today, an increase of $908.26 over 48 years
If Pauly had one thing right, it was that Adrian was drying up. 30 years old living with Pauly and super shy, she needed Rocky to not only make the first move but also the second and third moves. It was a different era. If they had met today they would’ve never made it.
I've been waiting for you to react to these movies for years... years. I'm was thinking of all reactors, this guy would LOVE it. And here it is. I've seen it countless times, and you made it fresh with that raw and real reaction. The underdog has all the heart and nothing to lose. Great reaction mate. Continue the saga, please.
My favorite reaction to this movie ever! I was right there with you on the emotional roller coaster ride! I’m a sucker for movies about an underdog who rises to the occasion!🙌🌟
This is maybe the only movie that shocked me that you haven’t seen. What a damn classic! Gets the juices flowing. Always want to work out after watching this movie. Thumbs up all!
Love it. I was 12 saw it in the theatres when it came out. Back then you really didn’t know what the movie was about. By the 14th round everyone in the theatre was standing cheering going crazy. An experience I have yet to ever see again. I will tell you it changed many of our lives. It gave many of us with the underdog mentality that inside us all we can win.
I’ve seen Rocky 1-4 more times to count and probably 50 reactions on TH-cam. Your energy and emotion during the fight had me more hyped than ever before. You get it! So many more rounds are in your future!
Man, I can't wait to watch you watch Rocky III. Hands down THE best opening sequence EVER put to film! Never has a few minutes' worth of awesome so perfectly set up a whole move.
Mate as Stallone said himself, this is a love story not a boxing film…I really hope you continue watching the films, great reaction as always mate, looking forward to your next 👍👍👍
Please please remember that you said.. "that's right girl ...pump your man up"... Because you're about to see some.. well I call em goosebumps.... And I'm sure I'll be getting the Goosebumps again while watching you get the Goosebumps
Same Same Same .. I was 8 and distinctly remember the crowd standing and cheering like a real fight. I am 56 now and will never tire of watching this film.
Rocky 4 gets all the love for being the most action packed ultimate showdown, but Rocky 2 is my favorite. It's the same quality storytelling but with a much bigger budget.
One of the greatest love stories ever told ❤ it's a boxing franchise but that's not the underlying story. So glad you're watching these, great reaction D
Im 22 but watched this as a 10 year old. I was obsessed with Rocky and boxing afterwards. I was already in Tae Kwon Do classes and loved competing, but this just cemented my love for fighting sports because it teaches you self discipline, respect, and all the skills you need to succeed in life. I believe it is especially beneficial for young men and women to participate in a combat sport because you learn a lot about yourself, especially after taking a hard hit.
Rocky, in this film, is the definition of realistic goals. He knows he can't beat Creed. Creed's too fast, too tough, and is just in another league skills-wise. So Rocky knows he can't beat him. But going the distance? Taking everything Apollo can dish out and forcing a decision? Something *no* other fighter has ever done? Yeah, Rocky knows he can do that.
Gotta rememeber this movie was damn near 60 years ago. Courting was way different. Just like if they watched a movie in 1976 from 1916 and compared it to modern times
Another important behind-the-scenes detail- Talia Shire was actually pretty sick on the day they shot the scene where they first kissed, and she genuinely didn’t want to kiss Stallone because she didn’t want to get him sick
Im a grown ass man and i still get teary eyes on that line, "it don't matter if I lose this fight, it dont really matter if this guy opens my head, all i want to do is go the distance, seing that bell rings, and i'm still standing." Thats a motivational quote for all men of any generation.
Stalone said Rocky is not a sports movie it is a Romantic Saga that evolves a Boxer if you stick with it you will see like 30 years of Rockys life with Adrian.
This was Sly’s breakthrough as writer and actor. He was offered money for the script but turned it down so he could act in the lead role. He bet it all on his ability to turn it into gold. This script was based on the Ali-Wepner fight.
lol agreed but it is crazy how much different that scene comes across nowadays compared to even 10 years ago. I wouldn't call that the "r" word by any means, but Rocky definitely got pretty close to the line in that scene. Part of it is because she is so shy at that point, it does almost come off as a mental disability until she finally opens up and we find out she is actually reasonably intelligent. And Rocky does physically block her exit several times.
@@cloud890 it doesnt come across any different at all.. in any way.. you just think it does because of recent cancel culture hipsters always mouthing off
@longfootbuddy yea, I never in my 30 plus years watching this movie ever thought about it as a grape scene, times are different and people are more sensitive
Nobody had an issue with the scene at the apartment when the movie came out because 1) They already knew he was a good person and meant no harm and 2) He knew her well enough to know she was just too shy and it wasn't that she didn't want to be with him. In the 40+ years since, people just got hypersensitive.
I cant wait for you to do Rocky II. Ive watched all the Rock films and the Creed series so many times I cant count the times. Its an underdog story. He just wanted to go the distance and be standing in the end. I saw the original Rocky in the movies when it first came out. Love it. Great review! 😊
28:55 Rocky Marciano and I are from the same city, Brockton, Massachusetts, known for its boxing culture. The late Marvelous Marvin Hagler is also from there. The high school sports complex is named Marciano Stadium and the Mascot is “Boxers”. Being Italian, and from Brockton, the Rocky movies are special to us.
Interesting that you called him a "bum" at the beginning! Our favorite trainer thinks the same. Rocky 4 has to be the best of the series. I also love #6 - I know a lot of folks don't. It really completes the character arc. All the movies are enjoyable, though. I'm glad you're watching them.
Bruh … you’re gonna cry at EVERY one of the ROCKY films. One of the best franchises ever. Keep going in the series. This world is fun to be in.
Yeah except you cry during 5 because it's terrible.
@@MichaelB769 I like 5 more than 4.
This is one of the most emotional movies ever, especially for a man. To never give up, to get up every time you are hit down, is one of the most important lessons in life.
Rocky 2!! LET'S GO!!! 🥳🥳🥳

I was so glad she finally stood up to paulie. Rocky gave here that confidence. He was right, they make a good pair.
This is 1 of my absolute all time favorite movies, I've watched it hundreds of times. I had cancer when i was a toddler, spent a lot of time in the hospital, and at home recovering as a kid. Dude I cried during the fight scene too when I first saw the movie...this was the greatest fight scene ever, greatest underdog story ever.
I saw this in the theater when I was 13 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday. The whole theater was yelling for Rocky, like we were at the real fight. My first movie star crush.
RIP Burt Young, Carl Weathers, Burgess Meredith & Tony Burton

Cool man, now please do the rest of the franchise.
Gazzo is a crook and a loan shark, but he really does believe in Rocky.
Please watch Rocky 2. It will really make you emotional! It's about the greatest sequel ever made!!!
It is creepy, in today's lense. But not in 1976 not as much. It was just different. Hard to explain. Especially in the hood of Philadelphia.
Yeah, especially when you know that Rocky really likes her and wouldn't do anything to hurt her. She's so shy that she would rather be alone than take a chance. He's trying to get her out of her shell. It does seem creepy but it was very different than what we think.

@IChooseJesus9091 I just t by think his reaction misses the cultural & societal attitudes of the time.
Exactly This was 1976. In those times rocky would have been considered a gentleman
Been with you for years. I was born in 73 and I'm so glad you watched this. Love you brother. And he was a little aggressive, but Adrian already was in love with Rocky. She was just so shy. That's why she said "Don't tease me".

I can't even really imagine life without the Rocky movies. This is a special franchise, for sure.
Gotta watch Rocky 2 now... great reaction.
I will be tuned into every reaction that you do involving the Rocky series. Cant wait for the next ones.
the best films ever ❤please do the other 5
Fun fact Paulie the drunk was a real boxer and was actually really good if you look him up 😊
3:28 - The lead singer of that street corner jukebox is Frank Stallone, Sylvester's brother. He also reprises this role in Rocky 2 & 3.
The main guy singing on the corner was frank Stallone. Sylvesters brother

The turtles, Cuff and Link, were Stallone's actual pets. They're still alive, and he still has them.

Welcome to the Rocky Saga....let's gooo to remember
the reason rocky had to drink his eggs was not really for the quick cheap protein , but because he couldn’t afford gas for a stove
Mate as Stallone said himself, this is a love story not a boxing film…I really hope you continue watching the films, great reaction as always mate, looking forward to your next 👍👍👍

“There is no benefit to that at all”. He says, sitting there big as hell. I guess imma start drinking eggs.
Go the distance and watch all of them!!
A true classic. The best part is that Rocky loses the fight. Most movie would have him win. All he wanted was to go the distance.

"Ain't gonna be no rematch."
"I don't want one."
ROCKY II: "Hold my beer."
Masterpiece of a movie.
Rocky's pay in the beginning, if it was today, it would've started at $360, and would come down to $225.
Finally fixed the audio clipping!!!!! Subbed!!!

Heard he even had to sell his dog and then buy it back at way more than he sold it for
Ready for Rocky 2!
Goated movie. Some other recommendations: Italian job, the fugitive, creed, platoon, jarhead, casino, goodfellas, any Tarantino, interstellar ,
Hope you continue this series, Rocky 4 is the greatest movie ever
Adrian wanted it , she was just super shy, Rocky had to Crack that shell
yeah, you shouldnt do that, but rocky didnt have a year to wait for some kissing and stuff
That wasn't all he cracked

$40 in '76 would've been rent for the week. Though personally, I would've found a truck to unload or some day labor, or something.
This is what I was expecting in the Paul/Tyson fight, but womp, womp, wooooommp.
