I spend 1.6 years playing my guitar (during lockdown) and another 2 vigorous years in my youth - with a 6-8 year hiatus before I picked it up recently again (1.6 year ago) and I'm just learning to tackle this beast of a monster. There is quiet an exceptional tutorial online by a guy called Mr. Tabs - I highly recommend you check his videos "Eruption Van Halen Cover | Guitar Tab | Lesson | Tutorial" It's quiet outstanding how accurately this man can play to EvH (and MANY of his other songs) I literally feel like he's channeling the spirit of Eddy when he plays (not to sound too much like a fanboy but he's quiet amazing). I'm practicing this song again (since I could play it but with horrific misaccuracy -- trying to figure out the pieces of the puzzle myself) but after giviing it a go again it really shows me what a freakin genius of a guitar player Eddie was and how respectable he IS in the guitar world because he too me won't ever die. Van Halen will always be around and we will always remember how he and the band changed the face of rock and roll history. 🤘🤘😁😁!!

22-years old when he recorded "Eruption". There's a prodigy! Still, my favorite Eddie Van Halen story is "Beat It". It took him UNDER an hour to improvise a solo, record it, and rearrange Michael Jackson's entire song to make it less "Pop" more "Rock". All for free with ZERO credit. never had a death of a celebrity impacted me as much as Eddie has. Never had I shed a tear for the passing for a celebrity like i have for Eddie. Being introduced to Van Halen at a young age truly changed my life along side bands like ACDC, Deep Purple. Eddie was much more than a musician, he was a visionary and his death has left a mark on everyone, even those outside of the rock community. RIP Eddie I will make sure to keep your music going for generations to come.
Same here, Diver Down was one of the first three "metal" records I owned, that music was life itself. Had the other albums on 8 track even. Sometimes the mind just cannot comprehend a world with a particular artist, and he is right up there at the top. No other deserves the title as Greatest Guitarist Ever as much as Eddie. Still trying to wrap my mind around it.
I said the same thing when Kobe Bryant passed this year. We've lost three icons this year. One in basketball and two in music. This year has been the worst.
Incredibly gifted and nice guy. Looks like he's truly enjoying himself up there entertaining us. Mind boggling talent. My heart is very heavy today. Thank you, Eddie Van Halen, for sharing your ethereal talent with the world.
Eddie was one of those rare guitar players where he became part of his guitar and his guitar became a part of him while playing, they meld together. Kind of like making love to a woman you really love and never want to let that feeling go. That smile on Eddies face, he is just loving every moment of it, Eddie and guitar as one. I have seen VH three times in concert, and Eddie was like that every time I saw them. He never had a bad performance. RIP Eddie!
I've been paralyzed through 23 surgeries on. My hip but I'm finally healing I'm going to listen to this every time I swim to get better and stronger thank you so much for your music
Definitely one of, if not THE most influential guitar player ever, EVH inspired millions of people to pick up the guitar and pursue careers in music. EVH is up there jamming with many of the other greats much like himself. Rest in piece King Edward Van Halen 🎸
His playing is beyond insane. Regardless if he was reportedly drunk at this concert, had probable hearing loss/tinnitus, couldn't read his piano music lessons properly as a kid, you can't teach that kind of playing. Pure talent and genius period. May His Memory Always Be a Blessing...
"reportedly drunk at this concert" dude he was reportedly drunk at every concert. he was reportedly drunk for about 30 years, what do u even mean? matter of fact, almost every single rockstar back then was reportedly drunk, all the time!
Imagine being him. Every moment in history has lead up to this moment. You are the best in the world, absolutely blowing everyone away. They are there for you, your fans, and you will never be forgotten. Imagine that
When you’re smoking a cigarette stuck to the neck of the guitar while you throw picks to the crowd with your right hand and play the guitar with your left, you know you’re the best in the world.
I guess it was faster to throw his pick in the audience, when he switches to tapping, rather than stick it back onto his guitar where the sticky tape is holding all the other picks
2:28 Eddie tosses his actual pick then proceeded to pull out another pick.... This is the *POD* (the pick of destiny) notice how his playing multiplies by 10000x
Devastating, absolutely devastating. A ridiculously gargantuan loss to the rock/music world, the world as a whole, really. Eddie was the single greatest rock guitarist in history. He influenced generations of people to pick up a guitar, to practice more, to "feel" the music more. He will be terribly missed. My condolences to his family. My older brother learned to play because of Eddie's influence, always turning up the volume when Van Halen came on the radio. My brother passed away over 15 years ago at a ridiculously young age. Today, he is meeting his hero.
I have seen this over and over and over. I love watching this. Have nothing to say but rest in. Peace Eddie, we miss you. We cry for you. You're the goat the best ever listen to Van Halen South Florida 105.9 FM big 106.. every time I see this I cry. I cry. I'm 58 years old. I don't care. I'm human like the rest of us. 3 years he's been gone. It doesn't get any easier. We miss you. Eddie! Your fans.. You will never ever be forgotten!
As someone who was never a big Van Halen fan. I always heard he was one of the goats. After hearing about his passing today, I am hearing this masterpiece for the first time in my life and it's so true! What a legend. RIP bro.
Eddie *is* the God of guitar in every aspect: sound, appearance, skill, game-changing. RIP Eddie, you are missed so badly. thank God you live on in your music. Listening to you makes you come back to life for a short period of time.
Here it is: the reason this man is remembered and talked about over 40 years after their debut was released. He reinvented music with his inventive style and technique and there will NEVER be another like him! Van Halen was my first concert experience and I wouldn’t trade those memories for all the money in the world. RIP Eddie!
I really did LOL!! Then I Started thinking hmmmmmm I can light and smoke too...AND I have a garage! Get where I'm going with this?? I feel a band forming! 🤩
@Jamie Lee what? he doesn’t want his purchase to go to waste, that’s what most asians do, you can ask me, I am one Am I not allow to joke about my own demographic?
Das ist einfach das beste was je auf einer Gitarre vor so vielen Menschen gespielt wurde. Danke Eddie für alles was Du für die Gitarre und den rest der verdammten Welt getan hast.:-)
Not odd at all, if you understand his backstory. He's a classical pianist first. Most don't know that. And then he played drums before he even picked up a guitar. That's why his guitar playing is so full of tone and depth. He's playing the piano on a guitar. That percussion early in his life took him far.
My father died of the same disease just over a month ago, you suffer too much from the treatment and progress of the disease, I believe that just like my father, our rock monster Van Halen rested in peace, he will make solos for God in the sky now.
I lost my grandmother 5 years ago to cancer, Van Halen was one of her favourite bands growing up and she's the one who introduced me to his music, such a sad loss! He will be remembered for centuries! Absolute legend! RIP Eddie!
i downloaded this video in like 140p on morpheus/limewire, found a tab of it and programmed multiple patches in my 2 channel multifx pedal. cant say i could play any of it well, but it was hugely influential. saw him in vegas in 2005, loudest concert I've ever been to. the solo delivered. RIP.
We are so fortunate that filmographers had the presence of mind in the day to capture shows like this. Many of us who attended the shows took them for granted and had no idea what we were witnessing - one of the most revolutionary guitarists to hit the planet, but that he was indeed mortal.
JensJulius Tejlaard. I'm so thankful that I got to see both the og line up of Van Halen and the version with Sammy. Imo. both were awesome in their own way. R.I.P. Eddie thanks for all of the music.
Cancer is a bitch. Too many great musicians passed away from it - Bob Marley, George Harrison, Aretha Franklin, Ronnie James Dio, and now Eddie Van Halen.
What he did was not only make music, but create pure magick, may his soul slumber in peace, with no pain and suffering. We fans will miss his earthly presence but we know will see him on the other side. For us left behind, we’ll continue to crank up the volume and rock hard and loud to Van Halen 4ever and ever....
Chad Hamann thank you, my heart pours out to his family, band mates, and the legions of fans he leaves behind. Yes he’s real guitar hero even as he rests in peace.
This video is only 13 minutes long but he could have easily gone on for a full 30. God speed Eddie Van Halen, you truly were an absolute master of your craft. Rest in Peace
He's playing the guitar at points like an arpreggiated synthesizer, others sounding like a violin, and others just brutal shredding. This has got to be one of the most impressive live solos in existence
From what another famous guitar player said about that very question. I believe I'm quoting Slash, "I suck at it. Guitar Hero is tough for us to play because it's so different in playing style then a real guitar". Who da thunk.. LOL. :)
This is so not true, i challenge you to become as good as ehv or jason becker just by pracricing At this point its just genius and nothing else (Remember he basicly "created" tapping so you will also need to create a new guitar technique)
Damn you Eddie for leaving! I just assumed you'd always be here. He was the last one I thought would go. I miss him and didn't even know him. I find it so weird that he's gone. It's like all the other famous celebrities of my time, but he was a bright star among stars! I also want to throw a little love out there to one who get over looked so much and that's Alex. Man he is such a SOLID driving force in the band. I've been in several bands (live and studio) and one thing I learned is, the drummer is WAY more important than many may give credit for. They are the tempo and foundation and that is so important. A good drummer often times goes unnoticed which is ok, but a bad one is as obvious as a sore thumb and that's very bad. He's incredible actually. Here's to you Alex! Not to mention, I'm sure you have to be hurting brother. I lost 4 brothers and it hurt like hell each time. So he and Michael Anthony both are amazing and incredible musicians and rarely get recognized for their incredible performances and input into this iconic band!
I saw this video awhile ago and thought the smoke rings were real cool and I guess they are but i just learned he died of lung cancer and that bumms me out.
I was watching hip hop videos and ran across this randomly on YT, never really dug into Van Halen’s music before this moment…….SHIT IM IMPRESSED 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You were fearfully and wonderfully created by the Living God in His image to live forever. Do not dare to compare yourself with any lifeless thing that appears and disappears. Every human being is twice belongs to God the Father, as He not only created us but also carried us our sins and died in our place when we disobeyed and dishonoured Him, so that we may live with Him forever. Let everything that has breath praise Jesus Christ- The Lord of lords & King of kings !
Man oh man!!!! I don't know anyone else who could top this. RIP Eddie!!!! nobody comes even close to him. The Greatest Guitar 🎸 player of all time. We will never see or encounter someone like him ever again in this lifetime. Amazing!!!!!!!!
I just love that fingerpicking solo in the very beginning. You could tell he was feelin' it. Can you imagine how on top of the world Eddie must have felt in this very moment? It just sends chills down my spine. Rest in peace, Eddie.
Definitely in the top 4 best guitarists of all time list. Hendrix, Clapton, Beck round out my other 3 but in no particular order....RIP Eddie you are still loved and missed by millions!
As a classical pianist you can hear beautiful melodies and arpeggios he's playing with insane accuracy, tempo, tone and feel. He even uses dynamics as much as you can with a distorted electric guitar. There's a reason he named his son Wolfgang. Rest in peace.
To anyone who wonders why he is know as the Mozart of guitar, this is a prime example. This is a guy who could play around on guitar for a minute and improv the most beautiful guitar part you’ve heard all year. This is a guy who could tune his guitar IN THE MIDDLE OF A SOLO and just seamlessly incorporate it INTO THE SOLO. That guitar is like clay in his hands, and his solos are just statuesque masterpieces. RIP Eddie Van Halen, one of the greatest guitarists of all time and space.
Now imagine if this was never recorded. Edit: Eddie is now gone. Rest in peace Eddie, and I wish everyone well. I hope Eddie found the Riff of his dreams up there.

So sad T_T
RIP Eddie!

I will go back to the past just to go to that concert infinite times just to witness that moment 🙏🏻
Of course. How could they not.

I feel like a lot of them were just enjoying the moment. Something we should be doing so much more of today.

I guess it was faster to throw his pick in the audience, when he switches to tapping, rather than stick it back onto his guitar where the sticky tape is holding all the other picks

Renee Pena my spouse passed at only 61. A lot longer than many but only 10 years with your Soul mate is too short.

This may sound odd, but he is like Mozart. He plays with scales...oh and he was a genius.
Pretty sure everyone plays with scales.
@@newthrash1221 lol
Not odd at all, if you understand his backstory. He's a classical pianist first. Most don't know that. And then he played drums before he even picked up a guitar. That's why his guitar playing is so full of tone and depth. He's playing the piano on a guitar. That percussion early in his life took him far.
I think more like Bach than Mozart.
@@MultiCappie I concur. Van Halen’s guitar solo had the virtuosity and divine artistry of hearing Bach’s violin partitas.
My father died of the same disease just over a month ago, you suffer too much from the treatment and progress of the disease, I believe that just like my father, our rock monster Van Halen rested in peace, he will make solos for God in the sky now.

We are so fortunate that filmographers had the presence of mind in the day to capture shows like this. Many of us who attended the shows took them for granted and had no idea what we were witnessing - one of the most revolutionary guitarists to hit the planet, but that he was indeed mortal.
They covered it in the genovea convention as a war crime not to capture this concert on film

Finally, after months of practice i managed to make the smoke rings he made at the beginning, now, to the solo!!
