Ecology student here, the effects of the onions could be a result of nutrient loss in our food. Fun fact; most of our food, particularly vegetables, have reduced in nutrient density dramatically over the last decades. It is also an effect that is increasing over time. Most of our vegetables have less than 50% of their historic nutrient content , some as much as a 90% reduction. It’s one of the single greatest problems of our time, and the extent of it is largely completely unknown by the general public.
Love the vlogs! I can’t wait to get back to Sweden one day soon, and visit the north again!
Completely with you. Growth is now orientated on sugars
Really like what you are doing! You come across as a nice person as well.
Thanks!

this was fun spending time with you in the kitchen, thank you Matti!!!
Maybe I should start ‘Matti’s Arctic cooking show’
🤣
/Matti
I like your T-shirt of the bearded guy paddling.
Top-3 of all your videos! Tnx a million. 🏆
Thanks!
I really was frustrated because I didn’t get the structure at the video as I wanted. …and I didn’t have time to re-make it.
:-)

Everything looks good enough to eat, yum ! I also enjoyed your very wise coffee timeout humor...👍
As long as you are hungry everything is yummy… 😃
/Matti
Another interesting video, TH-cam needs more blah blah! 😁 Thanks Matti!
When will 'Matti's' go open? I get hungry even watching the vid! Nomnom and the first🌟for a arctic bistro😊
Arctic bistro in the wild!
😃

Tusen tack Matti, very helpful video been exploring alternatives to traditional turmat as I want nicer food.
When you know the basics about drying food… then you can start to experiment and find out some really good recipes.
😃

Another excellent video, Matti! Tack!
I totally agree.
Thanks!!!
Matti this is just a thought, but have considered using powdered full fat milk instead of the cream? I think using the powder in a higher concentration would give a similar result in the final dish. Save you a lot of weight also, and potentially a mess if the carton explodes in your bag 👍 It was interesting to see how you prepare for a hike, thanks for the video.😊
Regarding your question about onions, did you use to wear glasses when they made you cry back in the day?
I don't cry from cutting onions when I wear my contact lenses, but whenever I'm not wearing them i cry so much you would think I was heartbroken or something.
That’s a good point because with contact lenses you don’t cry.
For me, It makes no difference with or without glasses. It was different back in the old days…

I love your all content, but this was super useful as I am trying to avoid the easy boil in bag stuff. It is now very expensive anyway.
It’s expensive and several of the brands add stuff that makes it resistant to heat, air, so it solves easily with water and all that chemicals…
Thanks for watching!
😃

I wish they used tube's for food in America. So convenient.
Looking forward to watching the video of your tour. 😊
This tubes are really easy for outdoor use.
:-)

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNAYes they are awesome. I usually bring räkost (shrimp cheese) on tube because it dont need to be cold.
My energy snacks when hiking consist of a 5oz squeeze tube with bite valve - containing 50% Brown Rice Syrup, 30% Molasses, & 20% Honey - all "natural" sugars.
Pre-cooked BACON - bacon anytime, any place, anywhere + I carry 1oz foil packs of peanut butter for the fat.
My meals normally are store bought Peak Refuel brand of freeze dried meals.
Warm Regards from far away Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
Natural stuff is probably the best. /Matti

Hoppas mitt luddiga svar gav dig nått iallafall. 🙄
/Matti
What kind of porridge do you make...oats, barley (flakes?), or a combination? Thanks, excellent information for backpacking.
Just oats and then some milk, made with milk powder. Sometimes I use blueberrie soup powder or raisins to make it a little bit sweeter.
/Matti
Thanks, been trying it myself, but this helps a lot. Only thing that worked are bananna snacks. These recipes I might be able to manage.
Bananas are super good to dry!!!
/Matti
Thank you for this explanation! But how do you prepare the food in the field? Do you need a lot of water and maybe gas to prepare it?
I forgot that part in the video… ;-)
You can make it in different ways. Some have a waterproof thing where they can store it in water during the day while hiking.
I prefer to add warm water on it when I arrive to next camp. It’s just good if it can soak water during one hour or something. If there isn’t time for that I keep it warm for 20 min or something. Heat it up, put it away and reheat it etc.
I usually prefer to make it more like a soup so I usually add water several times. If I add everything directly it will be to much or to little.
I’m not the guy who follows recipes… I just make it.
😃
But it’s really good to give it some time to soak water!
I hope I answered some of your questions.
/Matti
Coffe !
Yepp… Always!!!
/Matti
Thanks!
Thank you sooo much!!! 🙏❤️ /Matti & Stina
Matti, You could also vacuum seal the dried food. This saves weight and volume. The food also last a long time.
He is not drying the food for long term storage do that is not needed. Vacuum sealing wont save weight but only space.
I use a lot of onions in my cooking. I seldom have an onion that makes my eyes tear. Most of the onions I buy now are fairly sweet.
Was it the same 20-40 years ago? /Matti
My eyes use to tear 20 -30 years ago.
Ciao
Jag ska försöka kolla det!!!
Tack för tipset.
/Matti
Well done. 20:14
Interesting!
growth of our vegetables is all based on sugars so vitamins etc. slowly disappeared even for 90 % and then as last greetings for Matti and Stina
Don't tell the world about Nordic tubeost! It's our dirty little secret!
🤣
Sorry… too late…
/Matti
excellent.... great and instructive contribution.... are you taking deer meat?
Sometimes we are using reindeer meat. This time we used beef meat and elk meat.
/Matti
@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNAhmmm ... yummy.... with berries...
are the berries and mushrooms still radioactively contaminated by the Tchernobyl fallout?
you must have big cooking pot to boil all this for 4people.
are you mainly using campfires?
We have one pot that’s 2,7 litres and one that’s 3,7 litres. We use a primus gas stove. Spider model with four legs. It’s heavy but stable.
/Matti
@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA thank you!
Never tried pemmican?
Yes… for my dogs.
;-)
But I have seen several people using that at TH-cam. /Matti
/Matti
What % fat in your ground beef?
🤣
/Matti
yes... better to get it with a refastenable lid... 400g pots...
