That’s right the journey to get to fully mature locs can take between 1-2 years depending on hair texture. The pretty curly coily bouncy starter locs are not even close to being locs yet, they still have to bud & frizz. Some people SO caught up in the “ugly” stage & it’s not that at all, it’s just a stage our hair goes through to get to the end goal of healthy locs you can’t reach that without the frizzing & budding. I learned to trust & embrace the process & 14months in my hair is pretty healthy I had to stop myself from being too finicky as locs aren’t meant to be “perfect” 😊🇬🇧
@@caribbeanqueen9894 well to you good luck on the rest of your journey however long it may be. The satisfaction, hair freedom & diversity you get in return makes it worth it for me & as I’m a diyer I’ve learned so much about maintaining my own hair that I can passion to my family weather they want locs or loose natural hair. 😊🇬🇧
I know what you meant by her hair not going through the ugly phase. She has a super thick density and perfect length so her hair will look amazing throughout her entire journey. Whereas some of us have to wait for the budding stage to pass to get the thickness we want. I wish my locs looked like this. I wouldn't wear a wig everyday lol. Patiently waiting though.
Your parts are PHENOMENAL. I decided to not even worry about my parts I just focus on keeping the front ones clean and the back middle part. Two weeks in inspired by you!!!
Yes, please tell us the pros and cons of a retwist vs interlock. Can you show all the products and processes of how you wash & moisturize? And how often you do each
Retwists doesn’t last as long as interlock. The con w/interlocking is having the loc separating at the root but I think with microlocs it won’t be that way. I started my locs comb twists and ended up having em interlocked
It turned out really well. You don't know how happy I am to hear you say you probably won't be retwisting again but going back to retie method. They are beautiful. Yesssss we want to see the video of the pros & cons of retwisting on tiny microlocs
I think twisting them this way will keep your locs from thinning eventually. Don't go back to interlocking. Just do a style to preserve the retwist longer. Your locs are gorgeous and so voluminous. 😍
Lady, you did a wonderful job! I’ve been on the fence about getting locs this small because of the maintenance, but you may have changed my mind. Stunning!
Thank you so much for this. I was considering reversing my journey because I heard so many opinions that the only successful way to tighten smaller locs is interlocking and I'm not willing AT ALL. This video gave me so much hope and motivation to keep going. THANKS!
So love you videos and your hair ❤️ ..I also have locs this is my 3rd set of locs and it was mostly because of my partings. I strongly recommend that you do interlocking on your micro locs and no gel because over time that’s going to cause some crazy built up, no conditioners also that too can cause built up and unraveling. But if you do use gels you can use flaxseed (boil it, let it cool) and there you have gel and it’s not going to leave your hair feel dry or crispy 🤗✌️🇯🇲
I had to hit the sub button today. I have been catching up on your journey for a few weeks now and have decided to start my own in Feb 2022. Thank you for the inspiration.
You have been my inspiration for doing my own locs. I don't feel comfortable doing the grid on my own so I planned on having someone do my grid then do the twist myself.
A few suggestions - the loc it up is not grease to put on your scalp. If you distribute that way to the row then retwist each one would have been enough - putting on row and then each individual locs is why you started to see flaking - it was too much product. Lo po hair needs some type of conditioner and indirect heat. If you had put the oil on your hair length, done the retwist (with fewer clips) then sat under dryer for 30 minutes I think you would have liked your results better. Overuse of loc it up or any gel will eventually cause a cast that you see others get and start that cycle of detoxing which for many is simply removing products that were trapped in hair from being heavy handed. I'm reinstalling my microlocs this weekend so my comments are from my experience with first set that I had most of 2020. My lo po hair hated air drying as loose natural and had to finally accept my locs were no different. You did a great job with first retwist (for me I had to accept I need to interloc I sweat too much). Now that I know what will work for my hair (& not rules everyone else seems to follow) I'm looking forward to seeing new set thrive.
I’m so glad I found this video!! I’m preparing to do my first retwist on my starter micro locs, I’m so glad interlocking isn’t the only method for this size 🩷🩷
Yes plase do a video on the pros n cons of retwisting vs. reti...I decided to start retwisting instead of reti on my microlocs coz of the time I used to spend on it...and so far so good for my retwist, love the shine too
Yes the products can make your hair a bit stiff but it’s mostly so it will last longer. Retwist don’t last nearly as long as reties and any moisture put to your scalp can unravel all your hard work. The gel will loosen up over time but it’s definitely a preference thing.
Can I give you a quick suggestion. Using products and gels on your hair will hurt you in the long run. They get trapped in your hair and weigh down your dreads and they make your dreads look dirty over time. Its best to use natural oils and product.
Yes what products should I use. When I had Locs for about 15 years….I used a loving gel that did build up. So what would you use instead….as I’m starting microlocs now
😳😲 All them twists! 😬 I'd definitely like to see your pros/cons video. Retwisting seems easier, but doesn't seem like it would last long. Plus your locs would be more bulky (more volume others may say). But it's all in YOUR preference.
Your locs are just as beautiful as you are! Thanks for all of the info. I will be doing my own Micro Locs very soon. You have definitely inspired me! 💙
Sooooo cuteee 😍😍😍😍 I cut off my first set of locs in December 2020 ( I was combing them out at first, but I didn’t have the patience lmaooo)...now I’m growing out my hair so that I can have similar locs like yours 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey! Lovely! I’m thinking about getting micro locs too. I was thinking of starting off with two strand twists too then “interlocking”. What you’re doing is essentially “palm rolling” right? Will your locks start to look like regular/traditional smooth locs and not as textured when they grow out more? I like the look you have now but afraid that “palm rolling” will make them smooth like the traditional
Starter are locs looking great well done on self retwist 👍🏾 You still have along way to go before they loc I’m looking forward to watching your stages, your patience & crispy parts will be tested good luck with rest of your journey 😊🇬🇧
Beautiful job Keke! For me, l prefer palmrolling because it gives me fullness because my hair is a finer texture. I have had my locs interlocked before on some of the locs were not trying to loc. I've used lock it up and i dont like it either.
OMG. Loving your hair. I want to do mine but so afraid I wont be able to part small enough or see well enough to use the key to retie. Was glad to see you do the twisting method gave me hope. Which is the better method? Twisting I could probably do easier.
I have locs 2 months in and they’re traditional (twist method cuz I wanted to do them myself) and I appreciate u for doing these locs and re twisting them and taking time to care for them 😁✌🏾
Gotta have them crispy parts. I love your final results. Please do a video on the cons of retwisting. I interlock because I can't deal with the product buildup and possible flaking from the retwist products.
Ok so this turned out beautiful but I. Am a little confused 🥰 so you retaliate after you did the two strands twist so next you will interlock them??? Just trying understand your process
You are so lucky you never had to go through the "ugly" phase with your locs. They were 🔥 from the jump❤
They're still pretty young, the changing phase of locs usually starts a few months in and lasts for a few more months.
That’s right the journey to get to fully mature locs can take between 1-2 years depending on hair texture. Right !!! 😩
omg literally 😔
Very tempting indeed. But I may have to hire Keke herself to do them for me. They are on point....geez👍🏾😁
Thanks y’all! 💕 try it out! If you don’t like them you can take them out
I’m terrified but after i take my knotless braids out i think I’m gonna do it.
Your parts are PHENOMENAL. I decided to not even worry about my parts I just focus on keeping the front ones clean and the back middle part. Two weeks in inspired by you!!!
Your hair is so beautiful. It's not even going through that frizzy awkward loc phase
Not as yet, bit with sister/micro locs they tend to not have that awkward phase because it's always braided.

Wow! I can’t believe you retwisted all of those locs!! You did a beautiful job and your hair is flourishing ☺️
Omg. I just want my hair to be as voluminous as yours. So beautiful.
Yes her hair is so pretty 😩
Love it a lot less tension thank interlocking. Will try ❤
Your locs are simply GORGEOUS!

beeswax I think
@@TAL399definitely not. Beeswax is not water soluble and will sit on the pores and hair. Never to be removed. Flaxseed gel is a natural holding agent.
