    For those complaining about the life of the horses, the horses and officers are rotated very frequently, 1 hour if I recall correctly. They wget to exercise in Hyde Park and even get beach holidays! Fun facts, all horses are bought in Ireland at abou 3 years old and are extensively trained for this. They are all black, approximately 15 hands tall and have a docile temperament. They are all named with the same first letter by year and this changes every year. Most retire after about 18 years service. In the 1800's officers of the Household Cavalry regiments were required to bring their own horses. My father was Lieutenant Colonel of the Life Guards.

      Yes it was a bit agitated and this just tipped it over. Training or not they are individuals with emotions just like us and their gut instinct is to run for safety. Well handled by guard.

      @@astriddevries3008
      That's not how it works, the horse would only see an olive color, no neon for him, plus as I already said, the horse was already agitated and it's a trained horse that is desensitized to bikes, cars, etc. Plus the man with the bike seems to be working there because I always see him. If I see him, the horses see him too. There could be many unknown reasons why the horse was spooked and you all point at the man because it's the easiest explanation but I'm pretty sure this is not because of that. Horses spook for literally anything.

    • @astriddevries3008
      @astriddevries3008 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@shizukagozen777 you just explained it yourself. Man works there. Horse knows man is coming and doesnt like neon, the man OR bikes. Hence starts getting nervous and then spooks. Horse see more then 'olive'. There has been research on that. It takes only one negative experience for a horse to respond like that. As the guard handled it well it might go better next time.
      Anyway enough speculation on what seems obvious. Enjoy further research into horse behaviour.

The horses have mental shoes on which is not only hard on their legs but is like being on ice when walking on those stone surfaces. This whole practice needs to end or at least be revised. My car was parked at the end of my driveway the other day, I got in it to move it just as two people were riding horses up the street past my driveway. I sat in it and waited until they went by a ways before I started it and the one woman thanked me for waiting. I told her back, no problem, that I didn't want to spook them or anything. I'm not a horse person so kings guard or not, I'm doing what I can to not freak them out

      I don't think you're relating to the horse so much as projecting on it. The implication you give is you do not enjoy your job and neither does the horse. More likely is the horse just got a bit restless or spooked.

    Man! Poor horse, are the 10 pounds of bits & spurs really necessary?

    • @AnimalisMD
      @AnimalisMD 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No way is that 10 pounds of bit!!! Also, the trooper was very kind when applying the spur. just putting some light pressure on the flank and not digging in. (no marks left). In an ideal situation you'd like to get away without spurs, but in a situation like this where you need to have clear communication to the horse (especially with a bunch of silly tourists standing around) spurs are mandatory.

    • @nathanclaspell6003
      @nathanclaspell6003 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Do you have any clue how much that animal weighs?

    • @alaefarmestatesllc
      @alaefarmestatesllc 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      lol at thinking a horse even feels 10 pounds like we do. And nothing wrong with spurs either. If it’s in an experienced rider.

    • @Alakhai-kx4bz
      @Alakhai-kx4bz 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@alaefarmestatesllc, I'll admit spurs can be useful for quick and concise communication with your horse. But you should be aware that horses have twice as many nerve endings per square cm then we do. So they're twice as sensitive to pain and physical pressure. It's important to bear that in mind when using spurs and bits.
