  • 1969 Revell 1/96 Apollo Saturn V Moon Rocket, Kit H-1843:1200
In 2019, Space Force, the first new branch of the armed forces since 1947, was created and, most importantly, that act qualifies the Revell Moon Rocket as a military model kit. ;-)
What’s not to love with this kit? It’s nearly four feet high and includes a lunar module. According to the box, each sequence of the Apollo Mission can be demonstrated. Even a moon base is included. Plus, the box can be converted into a convenient carrying case just on the off chance you need to take your model with you. And, you could even get a 33 ⅓ rpm record of the Astronaut’s voices from the actual mission! Amazingly, all of this fun was available from the local G.C. Murphy for under $10.
This really is a fun and interesting kit with a lot of building options. I hope you enjoy another model from my father’s collection!

I was quite young when my parents bought this for my older brother for Christmas. Thou I did help fix the glued parts, as I could reach inside the partially completed Apollo rocket lol. I got Billy Blastoff and Major Matt Mason toys. It is an impressive model!

Thanks for posting- This brought back memories! When I was a kid I was very much into Revell models and had built almost every plane and famous ship from WWII, Tanks, and a few cars. The average was around $5.00!
I had four models that were my favorites, and I built them all- This one, the USS Enterprise (CVA 65), the sailing ships Schooner Cutty Sark, and the USS Constitution. The last two have both running and standing rigging, and I tied every knot with two pair of tweasers!
The Constitution took me two months to finish. She is about 3' long and still looks great after almost 50 years.
    (Just like the original!)
These large kits cost about $20 back in 1974. Today they are much, much more if you can find them.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-) Dad also had the Cutty Sark and Constitution. Although he loved ships, he never felt like he could do them justice with all their intricacies and details. It sounds like you did, though! I bet they're impressive. Thanks for watching and sharing your model story!

@@vintagemilitarymodelkits I had a severely broken leg at the time and figured if I really wanted to build "Old Ironsides" and do it right, this was the time.
Next to the folded flag that draped my Dad's casket, it's my most prized possession!

I was around nine when this kit first came out, and I remember that this model sold for around $9.00 at the time. ($9.00 in 1969 is worth about $75.00 in 2023 as per the online Inflation Calculator.) I could never get one, though I built several of the C/SM and LM kits over the years. For that matter, I never knew anyone at school who actually had one of these when I was growing up back in the day.
Though an undeniably impressive kit, it's too bad this is based on the preflight hardware, and the C/SM is the Block 1. But back then, we didn't care about such things. It LOOKED like the Saturn V, and that was more than enough!
In 2019, I finally got the 50th Anniversary Edition of the 1/96 Saturn V.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
