$20/month for Sunsuma is not justifiable.
Yeah it's pretty crazy but i didn't find decent alternatives for my use case. The integrations are key
@@vapeurdepisse I'm responding to all your comments apparently. I might just cough up the $20/mo for Sunsama because it seems nothing comes close in these reviews.
Curious though, how hard do you think it would be to program your own version?
I'm an engineer and the problem with that is I know exactly what I want and how to do it :/ Sadly, it leaves me aching to engineer solutions for every aspect of my life and my brain never gets a break. Need something to manage my time until I can carve off enough time to start making better/simpler versions of these things myself :)
@@stevebean1234 I'm a software engineer and startup founder and... The programming is not necessarily hard but the business case can be. Lots of competition and it's hard to carve yourself a niche (true of startups in general, especially in the productivity space). I kinda thought about doing this in my spare time, too bad I don't have any. I want to create a GTD based system like Nirvana with integrations, calendar and notes. But it's such a specific thing vs Sunsama, Routine, Akiflow, etc... They all look similar on the surface until you really dig deep, which most people don't do. I'm not sure this could make a lot of money. I could probably take all of Nirvana's business that way but I'm not sure it's that much business to begin with.
It's quite simple...in general, if your planner app does connect to outlook and does not require admin config on corporate networks then you are gold. If not, it's a dead duck!
A todo list and a daily planner/calendar should go hand in hand. A todo list allows you to figure out what you have to do. A daily planner/calendar allows you to figure out when you have to do it. You create the todo list and then you attach it to the day you want to do it on.
Great opinion, I have the same. Google Calendar + Todoist and each evening I plan my day out on a piece of paper based on these 2 tools. Works great and it greatly improved my chaotic workflow some time ago.
I don’t understand why you can’t share Reminders to the Apple Calendar. Very weird. Can you add Google To Dos to its calendar?
@@pressrepeat2000 Yes and no (or at least not reliable). You can have reminders in 'Google Tasks' and sync Tasks with your calendar. However this is not really useful if you want to use it as your task management system.
I would advise you to look at the videos on this channel regarding "Hybrid Apps" (Tasks & Calendar combined solutions/apps)

I’ve been using Amazing Marvin. It’s most useful for helping me manage and keep track of projects, and presents a small external window that reminds me of my next scheduled task. Marvin had tons of features and ways to plan, but you can use only what you need.
For me as a personal use case, ticktick is the sweet spot for me. The premium version has a calendar decent enough for my use case and with a reasonable price.
If only the calendar sync with Google was better it’d be perfect for me too.
I can't trust them as they are a Chinese company and the Chinese gov has FULL control of their IP, data, etc. Not sure what you're working on, but think long and hard as to whether you trust your providers with your proprietary data.

I use a project management tool, to-do list app, and then for today's plan, I write it in a notebook (bullet journal style). Works perfectly!
The real time suck with any task manager is inputting tasks, dates, and folders. Sometimes it can be worth the effort, but most of the time I'm completing daily tasks that don't get scheduled in my task manager.
Routine definitely provides a feature rich and easy to use free plan, which I believe is a really great option.
I tried a lot of different things, but the biggest problems for me are 1. the often missing real integration of ical and 2. the mobile apps are often not nearly as powerful as the desktop versions. That is why I always come back to ical in combination with sorted 3. It shows me my agenda for the day and allows me to add and edit events.
I am using Todoist sync with google calendar: turn my event in task, turn my task in event (+ you know that You can send an email to todoist that turn the email in a task? ;-))
Sounds good, but todoist is just not my cup of tea. The same goes for google calendar. I tried both multiple times and there are things I like about both, but in the end I always go back to ical. One reason is that I find it much easier to get birthdays in there.
The big problem is that sorted3 don’t allow to write on the calendar, it’s read only, it would be so much better if we could see our sorted tasks in apple calendar …
I used Todoist for a year. It had good qualities, but I missed my paper bullet journal. In the end, I have compromised by using my reMarkable tablet and the planner from My Deep Guide. It gives me my monthly, my todo list, and my daily planner all in one place. It also lets me handwrite. Maybe I'd like electronic solutions better if I was better with my cellphone. But I just didn't like the experience. The tablet works better because I'm carrying fewer notebooks, but still have the advantages of notebooks.
I’ve tried them all and for me Routine has outlasted the rest. The interaction is key and Routine (and Sunsama) allow you to have recurring tasks on a day and then you can hand schedule them into that day.
You can make recurring tasks in Routine?
I find Akiflow way more powerful. Why do you prefer Routine over it? Really curious

There is hybrid approach for this problem, which is called hyper scheduling, and Sorted app as one of this kind

I wish integrating Apple Reminders into Calendar worked better. Now you can’t even share a Reminder to the Calendar! Quite weird that it’s not possible… how are you supposed to schedule Reminders?
I've tried lots of different apps to plan my day, but what really worked best was a simple paper planner.
Complete agree. I'm pretty high tech, but there is something about the way my brain processes when I write things down and can see it all laid out on paper.

Have you found productivity app that also has a lookback / on this day feature? For example- it will show up that you accomplished a certain goal a year ago.
Morgen is the best app for linking tasks and calendar.Its free plan is amazing.
Especially once they get more integrations set up with things like Asana. And hopefully they’ll add a command bar eventually too.

I absolutely love Sunsama but I do not have Google Cal or Trello. So anything I use on Fantastical will not relate. Also I wish it had the same layout on my ipad as it does on the computer screen. Thank you.
Don't forget Sorted 3! I use it together with Things, and really like the combo, even though I wish for a better integrated solution.
I'm very keen to use a tool for this - but none of them take into consideration that my calendar fills with calls all day, leaving little time for forward planning my work!
I run into this also. I sync them to two calendars to overcome this. I plan tasks on one calendar so they don’t take up meeting slots but switch the calendar a task syncs to if I want to block that time out for deep work.
I’m willing to pay, but I have to actively use it or it’s just a waste. I need to start to time block because I’m trying to change careers (boot camps) and build a “side hustle.”
I've been evaluating Sunsama, Akiflow, Routine and Motion (and several others). So far Akiflow is out, too buggy and many other issues. Motion is out as well, just a bizarre workflow. Also it's an automated planner so it's kind of a different category. Sunsama is sort of okay and I use it for now. Routine is somewhat promising but very much behind the other 2 in terms of features. Interestingly, ALL FOUR of them are backed by YC and in direct competition. Not too sure why YC is pitting their own investments against each other like that.
It is such an interesting battle right now.
Maybe I could do a "vs" type video to explore the pros and cons of each - maybe one for when I'm back of vacation ✅
@@keepproductive Would be interesting, especially if you get users of different apps to give quick rundowns of their strengths and weaknesses from real-world use. I'll volunteer for Outlook/To Do.
Sometimes there's a "survival of the fittest" when you have several teams working on completely different approaches. The best one will get purchased the most, etc. Some people think "putting all resources against one effort" is best and it just isn't always. Plus, there is a chance that daily planners or to-do lists are individual enough that each company succeeds while appealing to different crowds.
...Just because earlier in my career and industry I really struggled when my project exceeded it's stated objectives and didn't "win out" with the end users... now I work at a BS consulting company and whenever they see two projects working on similar things someone always jumps on it and starts loudly exclaiming how they're wasting money and repeating efforts (my BS consulting company is an echo chamber, and usually the first one across the finish line to make the most noise gets the most recognition). Anyway, suffice it to say sometimes competition is healthy because it allows you to explore multiple paths at once. As long as they get a solid Net ROI across each of the programs combined, I doubt they're too worried.
@@stevebean1234 Makes sense and I see the startup ecosystem as similar to how the evolution of species work. so yeah, from this angle I can see how multiple similar seed investments are good from a VC standpoint. For the startups though, I would feel a bit miffed that my own VC is doing this to me and not a competing VC. VC and startup goals don't always align.
about todoist you better know that todoist allow connection with your google calendar so when you set a time it will become an event in your calendar
Yeah, but then you have to switch between two separate apps to manage each. The daily planners consolidate that experience into one interface/app.
I would be all over it, if they had drag and drop. It's too clumsy right now. Killer feature.
@@skylerreeves Not at all it depends the context: I may add an event bytodoist or add a task by calendar, but I will be able to follow my today list and tick them in one app todoist
Taskade could be an option, algo has calendar view and the better thing, is free (for personal) you don't need a lot of features
I cannot see any difference between daily planer apps and Ticktick accept integration with different apps
I think the primary difference is TickTick’s calendar integration isn’t a true two way sync that updates quickly.

Microsoft todo seems to be an alternative todo scheduling app (daily planner)
Request that you tone down the sound effects with "whoshes" and stuff when the graphics pop up on screen. It's very jarring and distracting. Almost sounds unprofessional. Please make it more subtle, or remove it. We're watching a video, not playing a video game. :)
I agree that the sound effects seemed a little loud. Remember, we should barley hear them.
I agree. I commented on this a few months ago. If these sound effects are going to be used, the volume needs to be very low. The sound effects really add nothing, whether on this channel or other channels. Best rule of thumb is "keep it simple".
Nonsense. Daily planners weren’t born because to do apps have grown stale - they’ve been around for dozens of year prior to there even being apps.

I think he kind of covered this. To do lists can help you to gather all of your to do's and have a running list, and planners take it one step further allowing you to be more intentional about how you will fit those to do's into your schedule and priorities.
Any.do seems nice. I am looking for more info.
I don't know why people don't talk about TickTick. It is a to-do list application that does almost all what these daily planners bring.
