Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"
Man Sturgill was really funny. In interviews he always seems so calm I never would have expected it. Great job!
He be high as f***
Went to a local Waffle House this morning for breakfast. Checked the jukebox. Sure enough, the song's there.
but did you play it?
5x
The Wf Hs in Winnie and ornage Texas doesn't have it. And I'm from a different region of Texas where my city doesn't have one. I'm sad. Very sad.
It isn't on the jukebox in Savannah (2 hours from Charleston) in 2021
YES!!
"No Yeezy at the Weezy Heezy"
That cracked me up
DON"T look at him
Ok. Sturgill’s my new fav everything
"Finally we hit the Waffle House mother-load. What appeared to be four extras from Dazed and Confused."
Great line
loololol
Great line and great movie. I graduated in 77 and "Dazed and Confused" reminded me so much of my High School years. Kids don't party like they used to in those days. Going Cruzin', having a Keg Party out in the country. No one shot anyone, maybe a minor fight or two, but that was it. You actually had to talk to people face to face and socialize. And every town had a "Wooderson" type guy. "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."
Skateboarders
@@nomadjeff1922 mainly because it’s Friday night, and we came to party. Not get arrested, High or Drunk.
@@nomadjeff1922as a kid who is now in college, high school is so sheltered and protective of kids for so many reasons, from parenting choices to phones to cameras and of course school shootings. I hated it, but being a high school kid is still a lot of fun. Hope u see my comment , its been a while since u commented😂
you see kids, Strugill is a country singer that radio doesn't play because he doesn't sing about crap or wear lady jeans
BINGO!!
I'll tell you what man, I'm a huge metal fan and I agree with you 100%. He's the real deal brother.
sturgil is a God damn legend
hes a hellav talent. check him out on snl with chris stapelton/ and his on band.
lol his DMT song is cringe as fuck and his song Call to Arms is complete horseshit to anyone who actually ever deployed. Sturgill is just the liberal's country singer.
This was fucking hilarious... Sturgill is dope
AGREED.
Totally. He's awesome. But who are the 123 knuckleheads that clicked on the dislike button?
@@anotherheadlessdemo they're kanye's and beyonce's accounts
I fucking love Sturgill Simpson. He, Jason Isbell, and Chris Stapleton are the only good fucking Country Artists out there. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves. Mainstream country is a joke.
austin prevost cody jinks
austin prevost there's a lot of other guys out there doing good stuff. Like Aaron Lewis and Cody Jinks.
Don't forget Margo Price! She's a bad ass bitch.
Take a look at Tyler Childers, Sturgill produced his latest album
Umm well I love isbell and Stapleton as well of sturgill of course, but I mean you've got Lukas Nelson, Hayes Carll, Andrew Combs, Margo Price Nikki Lane, Chris Thile, Jakob Dylan, Shooter Jennings etc etc...
Sturgill sounds alot like Waylon Jennings. And that is awesome.
what a slap in the face to waylon. This jackoff sounds like waylon taking a shit maybe
Funny because even Waylon said he sounds like him. And Shooter Jennings said Sturgill was the closest thing to Waylon that exists today.
William Stein Waylon died in 2002 so that’s bullshit
He's not even clos to waylon
Kentucky rules!
Sturgill was my favourite before I saw this. Definitely my favourite after.
"Possessed with the urge to eat some Waffle House"
Yep young Colbert was definitely definitely high.
Teenagers don't get high on CBS.
1:38 He says "The Waffle House that I spent my young drrunkness in."
Was? Hell he is high in this video.
@@emerald_archer Stephen and Sturgill were definitely passin it around haha
Sturgill needs to put together some more comedy bits. Lmao
Too right! Such a natural
Sturgill asks “are you high”
Was he asking for himself? 😂
the man knows why people go to waffle house @ 2 AM
When he said "jukebox", I pictured an old one with vinyl records
I know, right!? I have seen way too many Happy Days episodes to not expect the old slot variety.
well, you , my friend, have to go to waffle house then.
+David Bowie Wish I could....the closest one is on the other side of the Atlantic tho😯
Danny Klimt I was picturing mini ones at your table.
+suzawilo so you've never experienced the waffle house?
That is the funniest, most-awesome thing I have seen in a Looong time. TY Stephen & Sturgill for getting together to accomplish this greatness.
How much Stephen pay you to write this? Because he isn’t funny
"No Yeezy at the Weezy Heezy"
Hahaha!
You know, not everybody has a TV but I finally got around to catching this and I am truly inspired. thank you both.
As a proud son of Appalachia, this is the best.
How are those stoner kids not dying with laughter?
They don't know where they are or what's happening.
They had that downer shite. I remember I went to a Chinese restaurant and kept my sunglasses on inside while reading the menu and was giggling while ordering and made them think I was blind. My mates were laughing too.
I think they had to cut a lotta laughter outta that vid, lol.
@@deborama19 oh absolutely. It takes and old stoner to fuck with new stoners properly, and they would've figured it out.. eventually.. maybe.. I would love to see that bit unedited.
Sturgill is the best. I hope he'll be to Stephen what Warren Zevon was to Letterman.
He doesn't have the dangerous undertone that Zevon had. Good tune, however. Wonder what a Warren Zevon W.H song would sound like...
Ahh OOOOO Waffles and bacon. Ahhh OOOOOOO. Something like that I'd imagine.
Lothar Robert
WZ would at least depict a felony. Nothing more than a misdemeanor going on here.
You're onto something here. Yeah. Late to the party but I can see it!
I wouldn't want to fuck with him
yo stu and Stephen have some pretty good comdeic chemistry alot of it seems natural. I like their energy
If anybody doesn't know, Sturgill's latest album is amazing and hits in the feels.
This is just a gem of a bit. Can't believe ive missed out on this one for so long
You can not claim to be from the south if you've never been to the Waffle House at 3 A.M. after a party next to a table full of strippers in a debate over if IHOP serves Waffles? Then to have one of them ask the Waffle House server if they have pancakes and getting the reply: "this is called Waffle House, what do you think"?
I'm from Texas and my friends and I usually go to ihop or house of pies :)
I spent 8 months working the graveyard shift at a Waffle House/truck stop combo in Texas and I am subsequently no longer capable of being scared or disgusted by anything.
Oh Shit...''Comment of the Year'' Dude!
Fifty Foot Frankenstein PLEASE share one of your best stories, I bet you have a ton of 'em!
@@50ftFrankenstein hell yeah let's hear some stories
I spent New Years day 2014 dancing in a Waffle House. It was like 2 minutes from midnight and we were still like 10 minutes from home, so we pulled into a Waffle House. We (me, my brother, and my parents) were the only ones there, so we blasted Crocodile Rock and danced with the staff as we counted in the new year, then ate cheesecake and hot chocolate. I was bummed that we were going to spend the new year in a car, but thanks to Waffle House, it ended up being one of my fondest memories :) I hope we made it a better night for the staff too.
Gemma Pettersen wow where did you grow up at, I picture some small town with some kind folk lol
Makes me want to go spend new years at a waffkr house
this is the sweetest story! awww :')
Great story
Sturge was already one of my favorite musicians.
Now I find out he’s got an amazing sense of humor.
I’m *this* close to going gay for this dude.
"Special Lady at the Waffle House" was always worth a few chuckles to play on the Waffle House Jukebox.
Yeah, half of the songs were country and half were baby-making soul jams that somehow managed to fit Waffles into them like "Tonight's the Night (At the Waffle House).
A few chuckles and the absolute stink-eye from every employee.
Steven and Sturgill have no business sounding this much like Waylon & Willie lmao
LMAO That was awesome! Those two work great together! I've never heard of Sturgill before, but I hope to see them do something else together again!
I've seen him play live 3 times now. He puts on an intense show. Go see him if you get the chance.
Definitely check his music out he's the shit
***** Jared Greenwald Definitely going to have to! Thanks guys! :)
No matter what happens in their careers from here on out, Colbert and Sturgill will always be able to walk into any Waffle House in America, point at the jukebox and know that they've left their mark. Scribbles in the sand, dudes, but those are some pretty awesome scribbles.
Man. Kinda wild when you put it like that. Deep thoughts. I really like and appreciate this comment.
We call it awful waffle!
This should be a Waffle House advertisement.
it is, isn't it?
I'm no Director of PR, but this HAS to be good publicity for Waffle House. I imagine they are grateful to Stephen for doing this.
AGB Gaming it is
Waffle House has never advertised
I remember being a teenager and my cousin working the graveyard shift at the one right outside of Spartanburg....so many nights we would eat for free as long as they weren't busy and we didn't show up smothering drunk. Good times.
Sturgill is just having fun with life! Gotta appreciate being able to see a small part of the journey.
whenever stephen is in street clothes it's usually a great segment 😎
“Where you guys been all night?”
😂🤣😂🤣!
OMG, this is so great. Three of my favorite things--Sturgill, Stephen, and Waffle House all in one video!
I didn't think it was possible to love Sturgill more.
Sturgill and stephen is some dudes id wanna party with 🤣 It seems like they went to grade school together
Those kids were high as fuck.
Yep!
But they kept their timing comic
Working night shift EMS in the Great State of Georgia, Waffle House is a lifesaver. And usually the source of a call or two at 3AM lol.
Viewers of your show tune in for funny segments like this piece of gold. Please do more funny segments.
"...and everything was cool until Sturgill thought he spotted a knucklehead." Fan-freakin'-tastic.
Stephen's back to doing his best - field work!
I've never seen so much happiness at a Waffle House.
Where else you gonna go at 1:30 in the morning? Pecan waffles and a shouting match behind the counter. Always entertaining. Good on you Sturgill!
5:14 --> Seriously? This is awesome!!!
This is one of the best bits that Colbert has done!
that should tell you how fucking bad his piece of show is then. this sucks donkey dicks
No Yeezy at the Weezy Heezy 😂😂😂
I can't even 😅
Stephen and Sturgill. What a combo.
That pancake flip at 5:16 was absolutely incredible. what the hell. hahahaha
Much love to both Stephen, and Sturgill. ❤️
"No Yeezy at the Weezy Heezy."
Dead af! hahaha
Hash brown Maidens 😂
"no yeezy at the weezy heezy!"
Looks like the one located by the round Holiday inn across the bridge to West Ashley.
Oh, this made me laugh. Thank you, Stephen.
This is phenomenal! I will now absolutely make it my mission to get on the WH jukebox!!! lol well done, gentlemen.
...WHAT!🤣🤣🤣 this was amazing!
Conan O'Brien's remotes are #1
But I bet $100 that Conan would think this was great.
Its so random that Sturgill is in this, but he fits the part perfectly!
Colberts verse almost sounds like Willie Nelson haha
This NEVER gets old!
I went to Nashville, TN and our host was on a "Diet", so we couldn't go to the Waffle House. 🤨
As someone who has played this song in a Maryland Waffle House at 1am.... It's so much better in person.
Please say you both had at least one shot of whiskey before this skit? I laughed so hard, I cried.
Sturgil Simpson is my favorite new country singer.
This makes me want to go down south, just to eat at a Waffle House
After I watched this, I went to my local Waffle House to eat and play his song.
You ate his song?
Imagine walking in that WH and seeing sturgill sitting there
Everything about this was beautiful and magical and now I want waffles.
Stephen Colbert is very civilized, but he has a slightly insane side which i´m sure we all appreciate. Best wishes from the Faroe Islands.
Love IT!!! Keep on rockin it Sturgill!❤ now i want waffles🙄
Chip Hill was one step shy of 'couch-locked' in that picture.
Yes I was. It was my bachelor party! Stephen was best man!
I used to go to THAT Waffle House in college. Good times. Walking in with sunglasses at 3am. Drunk. Stoned. Hungry. Good times.
Waffle House is the greatest southern establishment, the joy of seeing that big yellow waffle from the highway every 5 min
Those stairs are a real safety hazard when you’re wobbling out of that place hammered drunk at 3 am
Now I'm reminded of a guy I knew who would put "Raisins in my Toast" on repeat with $10 as he walked out.
Waffle House has been my favorite restaurant in southern states during my college time. Hi from Saudi 💚
This is the kind of stuff America was built on.
I just keep clicking 4:16 over and over. I love that part!
Sturgill: 1
Ludwig: 0
This is awesome! Sturgil was BAKED!!!!!!
PLEASE SHOW THE OUTTAKES
Look like 66 blake Shelton fans giving thumbs down.
Gabe Thomason yea and every other mainstream "country" artist. Why exactly are we still calling that genre of music country? It's morphed into something like a cross between rap and pop with southern accents. Something along the lines of Southern pop, or fucking who knows, but majority isn't country. It's so fucking over mixed and over produced, have you heard the Florida Georgia line song with Tim McGraw? what the fuck, McGraw sounds like a fucking robot he's autotuned so heavily. just ridiculous . Thank God for sturgill and Stapleton and some of the new non mainstream as of yet generation. I hope sturgill keeps it true, figures out a way to get that big money without selling his soul, while keeping the integrity of his writing still.
I just stick to old country. F the new stuff
@@Hustler_state pretty bad when Wheeler Walker Jr. Is a better country artist in terms of music than most of that shitty poppy stuff.
@@Hustler_state Totally agree, that I love the few that are going against the way too increasingly common thing of merging country/pop BS! Screw 'country'(what it has become today) singers like Tim McGraw, since to me I'd rather listen to Sturgill Simpson any day of the week!
Hey that's the guy in the "Bobby Reid" song that gets killed with a rock!
Good lord does Sturgill sound like Waylon. Love it.
Couple of issues here: 1)I have never seen a Waffle House with a Grand Staircase. 2) Neither guys smokes but they sat in the Smokers section.
1. This WH is located about 100yards from the river and marsh which routinely floods, so it's built up higher.
2. The entirety of every WH is a smoking section!
sturgill always sounds like he's drunk anyways haha sturgill is the man
I love his album and I'm not even a country fan haha.
We played out "I like to eat my Grits at the Waffle house" in HS!!
This comment is 7yrs old and I just died laughing 😂
Dead ass.
That's the nicest Waffle House I've ever seen. Never seen a WH with steps. And an A rating on the door.
0:25 Stephen looks like a young Harold Ramis.
Yep!
Waffle Rodeo sounds like a great kids puppet show. 😁
Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton are making me like Country music again. I had given up after the Marty Stewart/Brooks and Dunn era.
Listen to the Sturgill Simpson album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. You won't be disappointed.
It's obscene how much I love this lol
Sturgill is the man!!! Love this guy
The line between sketch and commercial is thin, but I don't care. You get the sense that Colbert genuinely likes Waffle House and everyone had a fun time shooting this. And it was hilarious.
4:20 with this? Really? 😂 Fuck yeah!
Sturgill's folded arms in the beginning do it for me.
you know he is talented when he can whip up a song about waffle house and it sounds amazing
