I used a shade cloth for my seedlings this year instead of dragging them in and out. I watched for big fluctuations in temp and brought them in when it dropped more than 5-10 degrees at night. It made things a lot easier.
Really like how you planted your tomato plants in outside of your arbor! They get so tall and now they can be trained over arch. 🙌🏻👍🏻😊 George has so many talents! Great prune job.
Hi Cheryl! Yes, it works so well!! I did it last year also and figured I would do this going forward. Much easier than tying them up to a stake. Thank you, he is very helpful.
Your raised bed garden looks great! Could you do a video when you do the staking ? I would love to learn how to do it. I grew a few dahlias last year for the first time and I loved them. Unfortunately, they molded in storage this winter. But I bought a few bare root dahlias and I’m ready to try again. Love all your videos 🌿🪴
Love the Sugar and Spice Marigolds. I have some limbs that need to be cut off, would George like to make a trip to PA? I told my husband, who is much older than George, that he was NOT getting up on our ladder, no way!! Have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday.
Wow, Steph you and George have accomplished so much between all of your raised beds and all seeds that have been planted. The 18 inch korona looks like a very sturdy tool for cutting branches and pruning! Love your bird feeder too. Have never seen one like yours! Happy Gardening under sunny skies so you will have many days of fun in your garden. Enjoy!
I love your new raised bed area! It is so pretty. Can't wait to see all of your seedlings and dahlias in bloom. My husband and I put a pop up greenhouse bought on Amazon so I'm hoping that they are hardening off in there and I don't have to do too much more. We shall see.
So fun to see all your hard work growing your seedlings and planting them out - congratulations♥ Looking forward to seeing everything grow this season!
Your veg/flower garden with the upgrades looks great. Specially with your seedlings. You have a great eye for colors and textures Stef, looking forward to seeing them in bloom 💚💐 great team work
The raised bed garden looks wonderful. I started feverfew from seed last year and they took off and were almost two and half feet tall. The tiny flowers were just adorable. They not only overwintered, but also self seeded. Craspedia that was planted close to my house overwintered for me too. I garden in MA. The rainstorm created a lot of work for me too as my seedlings were hardening off and I had been out the whole day. Thankfully, I could rescue almoat all my seedlimgs. Made a mental note to myself to do a better job of keeping track of the weather forecast.
Love your use of this space and I can't wait to see how everything grows! I do lots of vegetable gardening, but tuck flowers into every available space that I can - marigolds, zinnias, strawflowers, nasturtiums, and cosmos. I even grew Japanese anemones from seed and have 6 gorgeous little plants! As our garden grows, I would love to add space dedicated to growing more annual flowers.
Oh Steph! That does look tedious 😆 I was thinking maybe you could place them all on a clean tarp and place like some light weight ramp (shed ramp) at your door and drag them out gently vs one by one haha
Hardening off. "Tedious"....the understatement of the century. I've decided I'm too old and will wait to sprout things at the coolest temp they can handle and put them on the deck as soon as they break the dirt. Pray for me. You know how it is when mid-February comes around and new seeds in the fridge is all one can think about. 😆
Lol, yep! Its tough for sure. I had one person make a suggestion to plant things out when we are supposed to be getting a few overcast or rainy days and that could help shorten up the hardening off process. We'll see, I may try something like that next year. Or else, I'll need some kind of rolly carts to grow things on because the whole bringing 20 trays in and out daily was not fun 😜I agree, as soon as January hits, I get ansty about starting seeds too. I kept notes in my phone this year about how many plants to start realistically vs. what I thought I needed to start haha
@@HookedandRooted I've also thought of sowing in the ground and putting jugs over them down the row. That'd be a lot of jugs, though. Maybe hooping clear plastic over them. I wonder if black plastic would get the soil workable sooner. You can see I'm in the "anything but acclimating plants" mode. 😆
Hi Stef, I'm so excited and can't wait to see your flower garden all in bloom! You and George have done such a beautiful job on the garden. I saw where someone else had painted the screen on your garden black also and it made the garden show up even better. Just a thought.
Thank you so much Teresa! 💚I have lots of dahlias planted. Some varieties include: Creme de casis, belle of barmera, penhill watermelon, gitz crazy, ala mode, ketchup & mustard, maarn, diva, daisy duke, brown sugar, cornel, rip city, lavender perfection, thomas edison, and cecil.
Great idea! I am going to that in my raised beds. Since it's already hot here in Alabama, my cool weather crops are done. So now, I have a couple raised beds I could do cut flowers in! ❤
Hi Steph, hi George ! Great video can’t wait to see everything blossom. Love your garlic you have quite a bit. I haven’t had luck with garlic. I tried an experiment. I had some garlic that was rooting in my pantry so I planted it and it’s already looking good so we’ll see. ❤❤❤
My grow lights never arrived (maybe due to that Delaware bridge accident?) until ‘way too late. So my poor seedlings are no more than 2” high. I planted them anyway. We’ll see!
Great update! This is going to be beautiful when all is in full bloom. Dahlias & Zinnias are my favorite. I live in zone 6 too & the last two years my Dahlias have returned without digging them up. Nice surprise 😊. Btw I need to purchase that saw, tx for the info.
Thank you so much! I can't wait to see things in bloom. I also love dahlias and zinnias. How fun that your dahlias have come back! I'm curious if mine would do ok if I tarped them against extra moisture in my raised beds come winter. Perhaps I can try on a small section sometime. That saw has come in so handy for us in the garden so many times. We really like it: amzn.to/3wNoWEy
Good job George to undercut the native Birch tree limb before sawing the top of the limb. Alot of people don't know this and wind up pulling the bark when they cut a limb.
I did the three cloudy day method, where you bring them out during the day for three consecutive days when it will be cloudy, it worked great, even though I planted most of them two day before a big storm hit our area, I just moved my pots under the deck, but everything on my raised beds survived the heavy rains and wind
Hi there, we did an all encompassing video on the setup and install of the Vego raised beds. @@HookedandRooted Thanks so much!
Your garden looks great. I am sure you will have flowers to cut in no time. George is so helpful. You are fortunate.
Your seedlings look great. Everything will be so pretty quickly & reward you with beauty.

This project looks so pretty. George was so agile and professional trimming the tree. ❤😂❤
What a beautiful setup you have!
Gotta say the fact that you had no plans for the flowers gives me great relief😬 as I do the same!
lol, we do what we can...sometimes it works out. Its fun to experiment 🌱

Great job! I was too lazy and basically straight sowed a few only so I could work on perennials in the garden.
👍💚🌱💖black 🍒🍅 yummy! trimming the branches made a huge beautiful difference everything looks good happy gardening💚💐

Love the new garden space Steph! Looks so tidy and pretty:)

Whenever I plan where I want to place my plants it never turns out that way; maybe half end up where intended. 🙃

That sounds great Wendy! I'll give that a go next season.
My last frost date is passed, but it snowed all over my plants last night.. no worries about frost when you got snow instead UGH
Steph, what variety is that orange marigolds? It is so attractive with the purple.
Hi Joyce! Its called Orange Hawaii: www.rareseeds.com/marigold-seeds-orange-hawaii It really does look really pretty with the purple!
Hi! How many acres do you have there!? Your yard is huge! 🥰

Which asters are you growing?
Really Stephanie?... listening to country? I dont know why but, I always got a 'rock vibe' from you lol....country..sheesh friend!😅
I listen to both, I love all kinds of music 🎶 🎵

Any idea why my chives never bloom? I love the blooms but they just won’t. 😭
Maybe it's not chives? Never heard of chives that don't bloom.
It helps to have them in the sun or you could try adding some phosphorus fertilizer.
Some say pruning them in early Spring helps but I never prune mine and they still bloom.
