I did a trash clean up at the beach for a school project and it wasn't the nicest day out but the peace of mind that it gave me was surreal. I do one once a month at least now. 10/10 would recommend
just wanted to say this video was a big reason i finally got a metal water bottle and stopped going through like... at least 5 plastic ones a day? love what u do keep it up :3
I read online some cultures eat tadpoles. Also that tadpoles are an easy indicator of water health. I’d totally eat a nicely prepared tadpole. It’s sad how ducks get their necks trapped in round plastic things like soda can holders so always cut the rings before you throw them away.
Honestly not weird at all that it's satisfying and rewarding - someone should make one of those cleanup games like power washer / house flipper, but instead you're picking up trash and cleaning up nature. Secretly encourage people to do it for real! Same dopamine hit, but you're also making the world a bit better too, and anyone can do it anytime
please grab a couple of friends/youtubers and do this again! have a competition on who can collect the most bags of trash! can even be several groups of youtubers doing it around where they live. It would be cool and fun to watch someone like Ludwig getting hella competitive about it
You're doing fantastic work Maya! What you're doing here is turning an abstract issue like pollution into a clear image of why it's so important to be better for our environment! I never knew that some animals can absorb toxins directly through their skins, and that drove home much more than anything else I've ever seen why we need to keep our waters clean.
Some toxins we can absorb through our skin as well, I guess it all just depends on the skin, the toxin and the dosage. Better not to play guess with nature this way.
I love that in Germany we pay a deposit of 0.25 for each bottle. You better believe that they get returned, or collected by those needing the money. At large fairs people make hundreds of Euros picking up the bottles left laying around.
Some US states do something like that, unfortunately the number has gone down a lot over the years because few felt that it was worth the effort. I live in one of the maybe five states that still recycles plastic bottles and cans on a large scale and people unfortunately do still litter. I'd say the biggest difference is made at parties and gatherings though, there's usually a bag provided just for bottles.
Microplastics are a huge problem. I worked on research when I was in college that was about how microplastics were in our rivers and it was crazy how many there were but also how big and small they were. People need to get educated about types of plastics and how they impact the environment and also how to recycle them! Not all plastics are made equal and actually mixing some types of plastics makes them uneligible to be recycled due to the recycling process not being able to handle mixed streams. Stay sustainable everyone!
Always hear about microplastics, they're everywhere and in everything but I never see anything solid about health effects they actually cause? Surely if they were like, lead/asbestos level bad we would have studies showing their effects by now? Obviously large chunks in animal stomachs are a disaster but when they're microscopic? What if that is an inert state for plastic to exist in, and if we're lucky in years to come after sufficient bans on production of said plastics come in we realize the microplastics are the state we want them to be in?
As a fisherman, I have a personal rule of filling one trashbag per trip. I find tons of fishing line and it drives me nuts. Too many times I have found some poorwildlife tangles and dead in it.
Thats fucking awesome man keep up the good work i have a question though how often is it a snapped line that being left out there because the fisherman cant get it back (say the fish swims off with it) and how often is it people throwing the line away in your opinion

I despise people who litter. What's worse is that a lot of the times the stuff we put in our recycle bins ends up in the same place as regular trash. Really burns my britches.
@lilbunno6449 Once again, humanity is a problem in many ways. Littering the earth, and so untrustworthy to where meet ups with people aren't possible.
@@lilbunno6449 the community could still do it without her though! I mean that's the point really, inspiring other people to get involved and do their own things
I basically did this a few months ago. Went on a walk in a local park and was so enraged by the litter everywhere that the next day I woke up at 6am and spent 3 hours litter picking and it was so satisfying
My friends and I did this when we were teens at a local park. There was so much trash in the creek that flowed through. It took a few weeks but at the end, there was no more trash, and everyone was so happy to see the park clean. The wildlife started moving back in, and as far as I know, the amount of trash in the park has been very minimal since, and its been 10 years. Sometimes all it takes is for people to see how nice a space can be, to want to keep it that way.
the beach and hills in my area are completely clean. you have to go there by crossing a pedestrian-only bridge. my city invested in stands with paper trash bags and put huge dumpsters in there. everyone takes this bag when they are going there just because it's so convenient - it's easier to take your trash in a separate, handy bag, than try to take it yourself or remember to pack your own trash bag. it's such an easy way to take care of this gorgeous area, I wish it was more common, especially outside EU.
i used to work for Parks and Rec and half of our job was just trash clean up from waterways, trails, or our parks. It was crazy the amount of cigeret buds and plastic bottles we would throw away. It was eye opening and very angering just in our small area how much trash effected wildlife in the area.
You need to make this an event with viewers or other streamers. Probably nice to watch a competition of who collects most trash in an hour from polluted locations or something like that(a hidden bottle count for bonus points would be a funny throwback).
I do agree that trash picking can be both fun, educational and completely essential if wanna sustain life on the planet. What u did in this video is what I do for a living in Sweden. Clean forests, nature parks and so on 5 days a week. So love to here someone els talk and explain why its needed so much for our future to exist.
