  • A basic guide on how to set up a pressurised CO2 kit for a planted aquarium aquascape. The best way to grow aquatic plants faster is to add carbon dioxide via a pressurised CO2 system like this.

      CO2 and pH. How pH grows and decreases daily because of the injection of CO2 and how does it affect to the system: Bacteria and algae mainly.
      Great work, as usual. Happy birthday, George. Do something special tomorrow.

      HIya George, another fab vid, but a secondary video explaining the pro's and con's of in-line diffusers and co2 reactors would be great! Having watched a couple of videos on the subject, it seems these are better in diffusing the gas into the water before it hits the tank compared to in-tank diffusers. Thanks and happy birthday! 👍🌱

    More tutorials please! I know you've done a few low tech, non co2 tanks videos before but would it be possible to do a summary video of key factors -surface agitation, how strong of a lighting, fertilizer, etc - of a successful low tech, non co2 tank (which I believe comprise of a big part of the aquarists out there)

    Nice video! For those of us in the US I found the coupler size on the regulator is larger than the fitting on a standard fire extinguisher. I purchased a swappable 15lbs tank from a local supplier for $90.00 refills for $20.00.

    Could you put the texts in your videos on the top of the screen instead of the bottom? I need the subtitles and they hide the text you put, so I'd have to pause the video disable/enable the subtitles, each time just to read them.

    Really appreciate this. I've been hesitant to add it since I have young kids in the home who are always gazing at the tank, having them pull on lines, cables, etc would be disastrous. However, this means I can also take my time, learn about it and save up for a great system in the future. Always appreciate the information, George! Would love to see more on this including its relation to algae control.

    Happy Birthday and to Tommy who I can see is the 'Editor in chief'. Buying a cheap setup from the LFS is expensive to operate. Buying a more robust system is expensive to set up but very cheap to operate. In the UK finding a good supplier of gas is difficult and I don't have a car. I get mine delivered 10 kg for £15. The problem is the cylinder a bit big but very cheap. Took a while to locate this.

    You are the reason why I started using surface skimming intakes and it's wonderful. You can inject a lot more co2 without harming the livestock and it keeps the water beautiful (something great about having the surface so clean it's like glass).

    Hello George, Hope this finds you and yours in good health and fine spirits. Here are a few questions, what are the pros and cons between an inline diffuser and an in-tank diffuser? Which is a better return system under gravel jets or in-tank returns? Please explain why med. or low light plants don't need CO2 but high-light plants do and are there any plants that buck this rule. Can you explain what kind of led wattage is needed per gallon of tank water for low light, a medium-light, and a high-light requirement tank? Thanks, George and Hope you get around to these.

    Actually before opening the tank the working pressure valve should be closed. My understanding is having that much co2 getting slammed through a smaller opening can actually do some damage. So make sure you have the working pressure off when opening the tank

    Just a small clarification. Not every dual gauge regulator is dual stage (double chamber), but actually most of the cheaper dual gauge regulators are single stage. So if you want to buy a dual stage regulator make sure that the description really says dual/double stage and not just dual/double/twin/two gauge. And it is best to use regulators specifically made for aquarium use. Also, make sure that the regulator has a solenoid valve, it is a must have feature.

    If anyone is using the 95g Tropica Co2 system, I'd advise buying an inline solenoid so that Co2 can enter at a regular interval every day and it also means you don't have to adjust the needle valve whenever you need Co2 so the bps will stay the same every day!

    • @xavierayayaell546
      @xavierayayaell546 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once I'm a millionaire I will think about using the tropica system. For now I will buy 2kg CO2 fire extinguishers for £22 which last me 6 months at a go.

    • @matthewjsherman
      @matthewjsherman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Xaviera Yayaell well obviously if you can fit a 2kg cylinder that's clearly the better choice. The Tropica nano system is to be used in places were there is no storage for such cyclinders. For example kitchen worktops or coffee tables.

    Having worked with CO2 professionally in the drinks industry it is a serious point about how dangerous CO2 is. It is toxic and can make you pass out, however the real danger is that it's heavier than air so if you pass out and collapse to the floor you could fall into a layer of CO2 and suffocate. We wear gas monitors to check CO2 levels when we enter cellars or enclosed spaces. Another point to note is that a pressure gauge does not tell you the contents of a CO2 cylinder. This is because CO2 is held in liquid form by the pressure in the cylinder as soon as that pressure starts to drop the cylinder is effectively empty as the CO2 in it is no longer liquid and all you have left is small amount of gas in the cylinder. I have never used CO2 on an aquarium this last bit of gas may last a while as even turning that bubble counter way up still looks like a very small amount of gas.

      Yes I have a very large CO2 tank next to my bed and frankly after talking to the supplier about excessive ambient outside air temperatures (was considering keeping it outside in summer temps of up to 48 deg C - he talked me out of it) and the danger of an exploding cylinder -- I am not so sure I want one in my bedroom now! Even a leak sounds potentially fatal!

    Might be worth noting to your viewers that while many co2 regulators have dual gauges - that having dual gauges (versus single gauge) does not always necessarily indicate that the regulator is dual-stage, and safe from end of tank dump. #bettersafethansorry
