Atlas with the lower tier turbo 4 seems like it would be the best rounded option. Only downside would be relatively sluggish performance, though not by much, those 2.0 tsi engines are darn good.

Hmmm, no Hyundai Santa Fe? 290hp, 29mpg on the sticker (I get 33+ all the time on hwy), solid glass roof, heated/cooled seating, 3-row seating that you can actually use, and quiet ride.......
Cheaply made? How so? What particular Hyundai are you referencing? All low-end models use cheap products to some degree. Toyota used cheap "aluminum type" dash materials for years. The Highlander got some poor reviews for headroom and is nearly impossible for a 5'10" adult/adolescent to fit in without their knees in their chest. However they have great resale value if that's important. As for reliability....I have a 6 year old Sonata with very minimal issues and received an increased engine warranty to compensate for the one they found. Hyundai has done an about-face over the last few years and are producing very competitive products. Toyota and Honda have been producing vehicles a lot longer, so you'd expect them to still be light years ahead, but they are not. As a friend of mine said, you can't go wrong buying a product from a country with a 93% literacy rate.
Sam Bartoszek I didn’t say they were better, you did. Toyota and Honda outsell Hyundai because they have a larger market share as they have been producing vehicles longer and have built a reputation. Hyundai cannot compete with the Odyssey because they don’t make a van and as far as your 2001 4-runner, Hyundai’s 2001 Sante Fe’s are still going as well. It’s obvious you are a Honda die-hard and probably just going off of what you’ve read or heard, instead of actually driving one first.
How many people really purchase a vehicle because of Apple Carplay or Android Auto? Many current offerings actually hurt overall vehicle rankings. If possible, can you list the number of complaints logged with the NHTSA? Some items like Nissan reliability or Honda 9spd transmission problems would be more obvious to consumers. It's unfortunate that the Ford Explorer wasn't available, but the Chevy Traverse is already represented in this video by its GMC counterpart. They look different, but that's all.
Correct alzhn. And those are body on frame SUV's. What we have in this test are mid-size crossovers (unibody). There's a range of sizes.
Was thinking that since there's no Explorer and no new 2018 Traverse this review seems a little hurried and lacking, but what's the difference between "midsize" and "full size" CUV/SUV's nowadays?
Patrick Sohaney Full-size SUVs: Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon/XL, Cadillac Escalade. Essentially the truck-based SUVs.
I’m well aware the GMC Acadia in lower trims isn’t the greatest option, but I’d take a $46K Denali over any of these models-or even the Telluride or Palisade.
K Nickole Well, given they're all badge engineered, you'd really only be comparing two companies; Ford/Lincoln with the Expedition/Navigator versus GM's Tahoe/Suburban, Yukon/XL, Escalade
K Nickole the large SUV is becoming a less and less popular in the market. People are going with crossovers, and midsize ones than large ones. Large ones are expensive, not good MPG and less practical.
VW puts old engine with the 3.6 liters. Really sad the firm did not learn a lot after disel afair and put new motors inside a 2017 car and lower gas consumption.
sky works The VR6 is one of VWs best engines. Now I'm not a German fanboy by any stretch of the imagination....I personally find they are over engineered piles of junk, but the engines are pretty good. Toyota has been using the 3.5 V6 for many years and Nissan's VQ35 has been in production for a long time as well....why replace something that's still fine....also realize V6 engines get better gas mileage than turbos in the real world.
Really, no Kia Sorento??? are you kidding me? its a mid size 3 row SUV. but instead you put in the crappy pathfinder and the gigantic Atlas. The Kia Sorento properly equipped would kill every other SUV on the list. It has 3 rows, well designed, plenty of options, 4 and 6 cylinder options, AWD available, panoramic sunroof, Apple carplay. You guys did no homework at all.
Christian Cooper "properly equipped" is rather unclear. Toyota can simply bring out hybrid and make even more statements considering highlander also has 4 cylinder option and so is another trim of atlas which will be powered by 2.0L turbo engine.
Beauty is so subjective, you guys always give points to mazda for their "beautiful design" but I find it really really fugly. Every other car in the segment looks hotter than that cx-9.
Austin Rice did it last 400,000 miles like a typical Camry or Corolla could...without any major repairs. Or did your keep it for 3 years and put 50,000 miles?
Firstly, Kia is more reliable than any other automaker according to Consumer Reports and Hyundai owns Kia. Also, Honda is having issues with oil dilution on there NEW CARS with the 1.5 Turbo. Also, for everyone saying Japanese Cars are always reliable, look of Nissan’s Jetco CVT issue. You really need to do your research before saying comments like you did
The only thing the CX-9 I hated was that when the vehicle was in park, the gearshifter obscures 50% of the climate control switches. I prefer it above all, but parents are convinced all Mazda have perpetual rust issues, thanks to the abundance of early/mid-2000 Mazdas always with rust on their bodies. The father loves the Acadia but I already know of its less-than-stellar reliability.
This comment section just shows how much people don't listen or comprehend shit anymore!? Before you ask... It wasn't available, they're 2018 models. He said it the first fucking minute!
While understand the fear of Nissan many have, and I agree %100 that Toyata and Honda are most reliable (I own a honda Accord), but my personal experience with a 2013 Pathfinder was seamless (lucky maybe) for the money and space in this crossover is just too much value. I just traded it in for a 2019 Pathfinder Platinum and so far so good (fingers crossed), pilot and Highlanders 3rd row is much tighter, and towing +5000lbs is plus if you need it, like I do.

Wow, if this is "Mid Size" SUV in the US, what's considered as large?
gsh0ck3d escalade, sequoia, tahoe, suburban, etc
where is the Mitsubishi?
in the junkyard
most of these were 40k+ and most had no apple carplay/android auto. seems reasonable.
Beauty is so subjective, you guys always give points to mazda for their "beautiful design" but I find it really really fugly. Every other car in the segment looks hotter than that cx-9.
Where's the Santa Fe?
Austin Rice in the shop..getting a new engine put it.
Brian Lawrance Hyundai's are super reliable. Ive owned a few and have had no issues.
Austin Rice did it last 400,000 miles like a typical Camry or Corolla could...without any major repairs. Or did your keep it for 3 years and put 50,000 miles?
Brian Lawrance no car can last that long without major repairs
Firstly, Kia is more reliable than any other automaker according to Consumer Reports and Hyundai owns Kia. Also, Honda is having issues with oil dilution on there NEW CARS with the 1.5 Turbo. Also, for everyone saying Japanese Cars are always reliable, look of Nissan’s Jetco CVT issue. You really need to do your research before saying comments like you did
How is it possible the Mazda can have such a nice interior at this price point, jeez
I’m a true “BLOCKHEAD” so I appreciate the NKOTB references 😁
The only thing the CX-9 I hated was that when the vehicle was in park, the gearshifter obscures 50% of the climate control switches. I prefer it above all, but parents are convinced all Mazda have perpetual rust issues, thanks to the abundance of early/mid-2000 Mazdas always with rust on their bodies. The father loves the Acadia but I already know of its less-than-stellar reliability.
This comment section just shows how much people don't listen or comprehend shit anymore!? Before you ask... It wasn't available, they're 2018 models. He said it the first fucking minute!
Cx9 is pretty bt really tight fit . Other pretty option now is atlas .
Are you sure that 6 year 70K mile warranty is bumper to bumper? VW knows that kids kick the crap out of these SUV's.
Kia Sorento?😐
*KIA Sorrento* ??
While understand the fear of Nissan many have, and I agree %100 that Toyata and Honda are most reliable (I own a honda Accord), but my personal experience with a 2013 Pathfinder was seamless (lucky maybe) for the money and space in this crossover is just too much value. I just traded it in for a 2019 Pathfinder Platinum and so far so good (fingers crossed), pilot and Highlanders 3rd row is much tighter, and towing +5000lbs is plus if you need it, like I do.
Atlas and CX9 are the clear winners
Jurgen DX exactly
Did you know that the Pathfinder is the oldest vehicle on this video meaning it has been around the longest
jelani card it's a dinosaur lol
