this show made me fall in love with drums when I was 17 and here I am at 27 shedding legit tears to it. I bet I'll shed the same tears at 77 years old watching this back.
Goosebumps every time, look that 3-4 drum fill to set up that last phrase. Also Tom Rarick probably one of the only arrangers aside from Glyde to write both front ensemble and battery.
I remember JJ when he marched in Phantom Regiment 1990 and sponsored by stingray percussion fiberglass shells he always seem into marching world he has nice way of judging when critiquing
Not sure if this has been pointed out yet, but at 9:43 one of the tenors drops a stick, you can hear it bounce off a few drums before the judge runs to go pick it up. It almost looks like he runs behind the tenor player to try to put it back in his stickbag lol
Mr. Pipitone was my percussion instructor all through middle and high school. He was a great teacher and super into what he did. Absolutely loves that shiiii.
well what if i said.....you're all right? haha. 2014 was awesome. so was 2015. and 2016. and 2010. and 2017, 2018, and 2019! hell yeah bloo six words ;) i marched there in the mid-2000s and we did our thing but i'll try and stay focused on this decade. i feel like tilt is (understandably) credited as the year they took 'the leap.' (o shit, unintentional tilt pun), but this 2013 show/corps was incredible! what a great drum line and pit, you can feel that energy. 4th on finals week. i love how they kept throwing in those traditional rudimental seven stroke roll-type parts, and blending them into more modern stuff. (i play mello so i'm a bit out of my element here; been around some amazing bloo drumlines including 2nd place in 07, but never been IN one.) you can hear the horns pretty well on this tape, and they sound so clean and balanced throughout. seemed like a really hard show physically too, so it kinda leads me to suspect that the 2014 corps wasn't drastically better than 2013, it was just more potent GE wise, more sustainable and effective physically, and also featured an improved guard.
I remember JJ Pipitone when he was a tenor player for Dutchboy back in the day (late 80s) he was a wonderful player and played so cleanly. Great to see that he is not out of the game - Go JJ
i love that you've heard that. "best contra line in dci"....he wasn't lying. too bad about what happened with that "regardless of the outcome tonight" comment though.
I've noticed there seems to be a snare drummer missing? Looks like there's a space between two of them, and this show there was 8 of them, and now there's 7 in this.
DrumCorpsTube Do you know if the judge was on the field, or on the sidelines? I like hearing the judges' tapes - I wouldn't get to hear them if they weren't on here! 😃 I think I might've only heard one when I used to be in a Drum & Bugle Corps (I was in the hornline), but I can't remember what was said on it.
Looking back on this, I can hear a lot of similar writing in Tilt. The battery and pit didn't sound much cleaner in 2014 to me so it seems music style and the kids being able to really enjoy the tilt show won them silver. This was great though, JJ cracks me up. He's the kind of judge drummers want to play for.

"Oh, seriously? With the finesse?....YEUUUH"
Legendary
"He makes you want to bust out into the horizontal head-bob" haha, brilliant.
LOL, "seriously, with the finesse?" (runs to basses)
"Yeaaaaaaaggggh."
6:28
That soft groove at 3:19 feels SO good every single time I listen to it. Lol
Yes the music is just written so well i love the cocky ness of this percussion ensemble they lay it down every year and they know it.
I second that. Especially when it climaxes at 3:36!
Goosebumps every time, look that 3-4 drum fill to set up that last phrase. Also Tom Rarick probably one of the only arrangers aside from Glyde to write both front ensemble and battery.
"Man, the drumset player makes it feel so good! Makes you want to break out into the Horizontal headbob." Best part of the whole video.
I remember JJ when he marched in Phantom Regiment 1990 and sponsored by stingray percussion fiberglass shells he always seem into marching world he has nice way of judging when critiquing
One of the best tenor lines out there
"yeah basses! Oh yeah! you know it!" its always good to have a very enthusiastic judge :)

Hmm... I would state that not too many judges, or anyone, will make comments about cowbells in today's shows.
Mr. Pipitone was my percussion instructor all through middle and high school. He was a great teacher and super into what he did. Absolutely loves that shiiii.
JJ was our caption head at Phantom in '97. Awesome musician and leader.
One of my favorite shows in recent years, just so well put together and creative. Good job BC's, looking forward to see you got for us this summer.
+smoshman6000 2015 was their closest year to being first place points wise.
BC 2010 was also a great show. Brilliant drill and musical selections imo.
well what if i said.....you're all right? haha. 2014 was awesome. so was 2015. and 2016. and 2010. and 2017, 2018, and 2019! hell yeah bloo six words ;) i marched there in the mid-2000s and we did our thing but i'll try and stay focused on this decade.

I love having an enthusiastic judge
To me this show is like a great bottle of wine. Gets better with age. I did not like this show initially. Now, one of my favorite drum corps shows.
"Yeah basses!!! Oh yeah!! You know it!!!"
he sounded like the koolaid man right there
can't tell you how many times I've watched this video, gives me the chills every time too
Good job bluecoats and Donte you've us drummers back in Delaware proud
Ricooo lol
Dam I should have read that before I post
I remember JJ Pipitone when he was a tenor player for Dutchboy back in the day (late 80s) he was a wonderful player and played so cleanly. Great to see that he is not out of the game - Go JJ
this judge is fuckin savage xD
Saw this live twice and forgot how much I loved it. Probably in my top three shows that year, and the drums were on point.
3:40 love how he yells “yea” in time on beat one and then says “hell yea drum set” in time 😂
I remember J.J. winning multi tenors in the I&E competition in 1989.excellent percussionist
JJ pepitone in the house.
Yes.
THANK YOU!
I love this style of Bluecoats.
A great judge and an awesome drum line!!!
I love how he says "yeah..." at 6:39
Yeeeeuhhh
Reminds me of the 07 brass tape, except this isn't focusing on the tubas.
i love that you've heard that. "best contra line in dci"....he wasn't lying. too bad about what happened with that "regardless of the outcome tonight" comment though.
Best part of show starts at 3:30!
Every time he says "YEAUH" I lose it. Hahaha!
6:38 "yeeeeeughhh"
He sounds so dirty.
6:40 YEEEEEEH
6:35 *
Summary of Judge's Tape:
"Yeah!"
Front ensemble is just so groovy at 3:39. Love it.
Pipitone is always entertaining to hear.
You can just hear the line and roger starting to get comfortable with the direction the line went just from 2012 to 2013 leading to 2014
That opening tenor lick in the closer is so perfect
2:24 oh yeah
3:18 gets to me every time ~o~
Yay this was posted on my Birthday, Go Bloooooooo!
“Hi there Mr. J J Pipitone”
Really tasty basses!
More judge tapes with the show playing
I've noticed there seems to be a snare drummer missing? Looks like there's a space between two of them, and this show there was 8 of them, and now there's 7 in this.
The center snare wasn't there that day.
@Tim Weber
Both. At 3:10, you can see him running to the sideline.
He's too nice.
I think the Bluecoats were just tight. He's very complimentary, but he makes it known when something needs work. Particularly in the battery.
6:39 what is that....
@@iamsoogi haha I think I was talking more about the judge than the basses. He just made a weird sound. Lol
10:40 AW YEAH BASSES
6:30 [OH YEAH!!}xD thats how you know it was good.
ARZiehm well his up there but the best judge to get is the guy who judged finals 2013 and 2008. I believe he is with the Hellcats. If i am correct.
Jeff Prosperie
Yeah from what i hear from all the DCI finals battery members is, Jeff is the best to get because he is spot on all the time.
In my opinion, he is hands down the best judge in the activity. He's always in the right place.
And i will not disagree or agree to your opinion but i like your opinion. :)
Prosperie is great. My favorite might be Allen Kristensen, though. Always liked Glen Fugett, too.
Love it
6:39
"YEUH"
"Yeauhh" 6:38
Hell ya drum set
Does anyone know what happened to the missing snare?
Does nobody see that a quad drops a stick and JJ hands it back?
Where in the video?
Sean Murphy 9:45
Missing snare? (10:03 back field)
(Edit) missing tuba? (0:50 second to last line)
Laura Cox This judge was on the field, you can see him run out to the bass drums at 2:17.
DrumCorpsTube I had a feeling he was - you can hear him breathing a couple of times & sometimes he sounds closer to the drumline than anything else.
He was on the field, you can see him in the green shirt running around.
6:38 yeah. . .
that was funny as hell!
Looking back on this, I can hear a lot of similar writing in Tilt. The battery and pit didn't sound much cleaner in 2014 to me so it seems music style and the kids being able to really enjoy the tilt show won them silver. This was great though, JJ cracks me up. He's the kind of judge drummers want to play for.
h
“HELL YEA DRUMSET!”
JJ aint afraid to get in there
Definitely in my top 5 favorite shows of 2013!!! My favorite corps to hear good grooves.
Horizontal head bob made me bust a gut.
Where they missing their center snare that night?
7 Snares?
4:08 :'D so true!!
was there a snare missing
Michael Breuer Yes I believe so
I think it was Frank Cummings
+muhamed pampur y is he missing?
2:19 😂😂
he likes tenor i like him :)
Did anyone see the trumpet snap his mouthpiece right out of his horn at the very end 😂
Drum judges must have a thing for spock rolls
*Y E A H B A S S E S*
Horizontal headbob... Lol
Am I the only one who thinks he sounds like Jason Segel?
they are missing a snare.
Omg plz pronounce Massillon correctly....
"I like the electronic sounds there." Sorry, you lost me completely at that point.
Nobody has ever given less of a fuck about your opinion than I do right now.
This guys drum line shop talk is so annoying, I wish he would shut up so I can listen.
uh...it's a judges tape. They'll ALWAYS talk a lot.
That's why there's an on field cam of just the drumline, also on this channel.
it's been nine years but I sincerely hope you're still doing terribly.
