when I first saw the Violente "finger" variation as staged here a few years ago I must admit it was the oddest thing I'd ever seen, but I soon became obsessed with it - it is so wonderfully 19th century!
The ABT version is at times beautiful and problematic. The fairies look to be Devon Teuscher, Luciana Paris, Sarah Lane and Skylar Brandt. The last one may be Catherine Hurlin. It's hard to tell with those wigs. Lilac is Christine Shevchenko. This is a great cast.
I kindly ask for a private video of this performance. This performance has Ratmansky's very important coaching and polishing of the reconstructed steps that reflects his understanding of how the choreography must be performed.
The ensemble looks a bit loosey goosey in the beginning. Tempo too fast? The variations... I don't know. It's almost the same choreography in both reconstructions. I think it's the dancers, not the choreography. They do the steps. @5:10 looks like Balanchine's Rubies, lol. Half of them have bad arms. The wigs and the cheap crowns... NO.
