    Oven selector switches that can be referred to as function switches or commutator switches they are the small switch that sits behind the control knob of your oven and switch between the various functions of your oven. the function switch is the component that allows you to switch between various functions - such as the grill, fan heating, etc.

    Thanks oven david attenborough!
    In my case I had some little notches but these were a red herring - I found that one of the springs was not engaging to push a connector closed when the dial was turned. Possibly fixable with some WD40 or contact cleaner but I ordered a replacement part anyway, only 12 quid. A gentle push with a screwdriver and the troublesome connector snapped closed, so I set the dial to the 'oven on' position, nudged the stuck connector so it closed, and reconnected all the wires and now I'm simply turning the oven on at the wall to turn it on/off while I wait for the replacement.
    Typing this while I wait for my fish fingers! :)

    I have a Smeg TR90BL where the bottom element isn't turning on, the two round elements around the fans work. But not the bottom. Looking at the wiring diagram I thought it can't be the switch how would that fail in a 6 year old oven. I tested the element by putting power directly to it and it heated! So I was thinking it maybe the PCB relay which I replaced but still no good. So it must be the selector switch as you describe, not going to be as easy as the one you're working on as my Smeg has a gas cooktop to disassemble to get to the selector switch. 🙄 Happy I came across this video even though it was made 5 years. It pointed me hopefully in the right direction !

    Hi, great video. Could this be the cause of my problem if all features on the oven work correctly except the fan assisted element in the main oven which doesn't get hot. I have tested the element and tried a new genuine element but still no difference. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

    You mention selecting the desired oven setting before turning the thermostat knob to heat desired... to avoid burning out the terminals in the selector switch. What about when you select the preheat setting, then after the oven has warmed up, you need to move the selector switch to your desired setting? Isn't that also bad for the terminals in the selector knob?

    Hi, Thank you for your detailed explanation on this video. My Brandt oven: When I switched on the main switch of oven, it lights up, but once I turned the Selector Switch, the whole house tripped. I have opened up to have a look and there is no burnt marks like what you have shown in your video here. What could be the cause please? I wish to show you the photos but there is no uploading here. Thank you. 11 Aug 2020

    Hi, I have a Candy FPP 602/1x after about 10 to 15 of work it jumps the main circuit breaker. I had a technician over and he check the bottom coil and it was shorted so he replaced it. The following day it jumped again and now he thinks it a thermostat. I was wondering if you have any idea?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! I am having exactly this problem but for both selector switches (The 12 program and the 6 program selector switches). I replaced the 12 program selector from my Sauter oven and now is 'almost' working again (all programs except the one to turn the oven off '^^). Does anyone know if is there a link between the two program selector switches that could cause this kind of malfunction or are both switches completely independent?
    Thanks in advance!

    The most likely fault and the cheapest repair will be the thermal cut-out on the rear of the oven. There is another similar looking device on the top which is normally open and turns on the cooling fan when necessary.

    I have a Whirlpool model# RF111PXSQ and I checked continuity to both elements. When I turn the broil and bake oven on it makes a clicking noise right behind that knob. The part # is WP9762215 and I just wanted to know how to test it. I have taken apart a lot of motors. So now I have a soldering iron if needed. Im a landlord and try to fix everything myself so I was asking how to test before I buy it. Thanks man

    HI, great video! My selector switch overheated and melted the plastic like the one in the video, I then swapped it out and then the new switch only lasted a few months. I replaced it again today and that wire is still getting very hot. It is the wire that connects from the thermostat to the selector switch when the oven is on. What could be the cause of the wire getting very hot? I have made sure that the connector is not loose, it makes a good contact.
    Kind regards
    Marc

    • @fuzzykeuh
      @fuzzykeuh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There can also be a bad connection between the wire itself and the cable connector (that you slide). Or the current is simply too high for the plastic material. Then i would say the manufacturer tried to be a cheapskate.
