I really dig the expression "I carry it every day...occasionally" :D
There is some extremely good experiential advice in this video. It's one of your best. Thank you so much!
The small CS drop point your showing looks like a beauty to carry and own, I really like my small CS Vaquero voyager.
My EDC at work has been the Lawman with Aus8 for about two years now but I'm slowly allowing my CS Recon 1 CTS XHP to get some days in, I'm enjoying the new steel of it and it is easy to carry but it's a knife I simply have to use with more discretion around coworkers due to its bad ass size. I love Cold Steel clips just the way they are BTW. I can feel confident that my folder will stay where I want it and the shortness of the clip helps the knife move well radially in my pocket while staying secure vertically.
When I'm not in my regular work clothes on the river as a Boomman I carry a knife that suits what I'm wearing, where I'm going and what I'm doing, could be a Ripple, a Manix 2, a BM 710, Gayle Bradley Texan folder, SOG Vulcan... and others.
Not at work my favorite EDC is a large Lum Chinese folder but on the job the Lawman is a tank and a joy to use, in my experience it is the perfect knife put aside the less than perfect Aus8 for now, I will upgrade when the when I've sharpened the blade off.
I love the vaquero. I carry mine all the time with my paramilitary 2
In my opinion, the mini recon 1 or the code 4 are excellent at work edc knives, mostly because of the mini's smaller blade, and the code 4's lack of aggressive black paint
The 940 didn't make the cut :(
Due to the cold and wet weather/season, my current favorite EDC knife is the "Aqua Salt Fixed Blade Dive Knife" (2015 Model) from Spyderco.
This knife is made with H1 Steel (which uses Nitrogen instead of Carbon), making it a rust proof knife. Plus, this Steel is a PH Steel (Precipitation Hardening Steel), which means the blade will harden each time you sharpen it, making it a great durable knife on the long run.
Only minor gripe I have or can think of is that it is not a Full-Tang. No worries though, the handle is molded onto the knife and it is sturdy son of a... er... knife .
My EDC is a $30 skeletonized folder from Gerber. My Girl got it for me like 8 years ago. I've always intended to pick up a new EDC, but this cheapo has stayed solid, keeps and edge, and still looks pretty good after 8 years of near everyday use, so I guess I just never got around to it... I have plenty of knives, but this has been thought it all, it's earned its place on my right hip pocket.
Hey man, glad to see you make this vid, kinda funny, in a way we both picked 2 of the same knife, differences being you have the newest Voyager and a waved Delica, but still, kinda funny to see, great blades man!
Me too. I have it for 6 months and I am very pleased. A week ago I bought a Spyderco Endura 4. It is good knife but to big for my EDC. I bought it as a picnic's knife and food preparation. In that role the length is perfect.
Can you give more information on that sheath, I've been looking for a sideways mounted sheath (it appears that's what that it) and that's a beauty
8 years ago the knives you are showing are 2 knives I still use except I have a spyderco endura and I always have a coldsteel xl vaquero. I find those 2 hard to beat every today. My other knife that I switch up the endura with is either the kershaw D2 cqc4xl or the coldsteel broken skull I still carry them to this day.
I really don't understand people spending over $150 for a knife.
Right now I'm back to my Kershaw RAM. Thanks for your vids!
@cutlerylover. It's actually the opposite - the synthetic materials are insulators, thus they "hold in the cold" - which is why they feel warmer - they are not conducting the heat from your hand to warm themselves up. Metal, G10, FRN, micarta, etc all are the same temperature, they just feel different because they conduct the heat at different rates. * the more you know * ;)
The Chris Reeve Sebenza is a beautiful knife. Not a knife I would EDC though. I know I am not the only one, but when I put down over 400 bucks on a product, chances are it won't leave my house lol. I just could not handle losing or breaking something with that price tag, accidents do happen. Hell even my cheaper knives, I hate the thought of losing them. A Sebenza though, nah it's a house knife lol. Anyway my current EDC knife is a Spyderco Ambitious. I been carrying that for quite a while now, and I love it. It is my favorite EDC knife for sure. So light weight, and compact, and cuts like butter, plus I just love the simple look of it.
I currently carry a crkt ripple that I found on the beach. It was completely rusted shut and had sand packed in it. I cleaned it up, got it razor sharp, buttery smooth and modified it by putting a tip down spyderco wire clip on it from a spyderco sqeak.
I know this is a bit 'off topic' but have you ever reviewed the Byrd series? I live in the UK and genuine Spyderco's are double the US price (if you can get them) but I did manage to get a Byrd Cara Cara 2. I appreciate the steel is not quite S30v (it's actually 8cr13MoV) and mine has the cheaper FRN handles. It was still £26 though (about $43) and being unemployed, that's a lot of money.....I'd love to hear your opinion.
Spyderco Manix 2 s30v is my current favorite, and i also love all the sprint runs they have for the knife
What is your favrote\best knife sharpener
Ever thought about getting a Gerber Venture assisted opening knife?? I have and carry one on me, along with a few other knives and the like.
current edc knife (in the UK) Boker subcom 42 titan. amazing little knife with the titanium bling factor.
Same here. In Germany you can only legally carry a folder, if it is a two hand operation locking knife, or if it is a one hand operation non-locking knife(like the spyderco uk pk). So removing the studs technically makes it a two hand operation knife. But oddly enough you can carry a fixed blade knife with up to 12 cm( approx. 5 inches) blade length. My current top edc is a Müller Msp linerlock, with s90v blade :-)
Keep up the awesome vids jeff!
A long time sub ;-)
Victorinox super tinker. I always have it in my pocket, plus a locking folder of which my favorite is my benchmade cpm-m4 limited edition 551 griptilian.
How is it that the Gerber Bear Grylls knives didn't make your list? You obviously don't know anything about knives.
My current favorite EDC knife is the ZT 0770CF: excellent size and weight, blade long enough for most EDC tasks & handle long enough to get four fingers on (even w/ my large hands), easy to open/close one-handed, fast deployment, deep carry while being easy to retrieve & still tight enough clip to stay in pocket, looks cool, tight lock-up. I always carry at least two blades, the 0770 would be my smaller knife for EDC tasks, while the other would be my larger "tactical" backup. If I were to only carry one knife, I would go with another knife with a longer blade.
Hey Jeff. Do you think the Spartan Blades Akribis is a good equivalent to the CR Sebenza?
Love my VECP 2, Carry that every day! And I've gone thru so many, it just feels so good in the hand!
got a Kershaw Burst as a beater knife awhile back, it's a bit thick, and a little weighty, but the deployment, and liner lock are really, really smooth. Great knife for 40 bucks
do you still feel that way about the CR sabenza(?) (no clue how to spell it)
The knife I carry all the time is the cold steel voyager xl great knife love the size and I also carry the large version both great knives highly recommend them
I love the XL cold steel folders, where legal, they are a good self defense tool,,,,great potential. For EDC I am trying to find something I really like; the
Spiderco's with the wave feature are really cool! Great Review.
That small Sebenza is very cool. I could not agree more about their value. My 25 is one of my favorites.
The knifes that are currently in my EDC are the ka-bar tdi and the crkt m16-01z (carried it for more or less a year now and plan on doing so way longer)
Does Kershaw make that Maxpedition knife for them under contract? The handle looks like some of Kershaw's newer foreign made knives and the thumb stud is right off the Blur or Random Task II
nice. i often wonder what people's favorite edc's are. it just fascinates me how useful these little tools are. now i'm a firm believer of, "everybody should carry a knife."
since the thumb studs on the voyagers can easily be removed, and therefore made legal in my country, they are my favorite edcs too. also the enlan el04 (both versions) and el02 (both versions). the sanrenmu 763 is in the back pocket of my scrubs at work, also with the thumb studs removed. also i always always have an additional buck 110 (ecolite or original) in my horizontal nylon sheath on my belt.
great video jeff.
Very nice choices.
Large sebenza 21. Had it for a few months and i love it.
I was under the impression that in most countries outside the US a folder being a locking folder was the issue not the fact that it has thumbstuds? Its interesting to know studs are the issue where you are
Benchmade Nim Cub 2. Love love love this fixed blade!
Likes this review very much.Great knives.
Great review, cool knives.
I have gone through many many EDC knives. But the one that finds my pocket the most is the Benchmade Griptilian X15TN. I love that blade steel and the benchmade is super durable and light.
My top right now is my Spyderco Tuff, it has the size for heavy use and defense, but still has a big enough choil to be used like a knife with a 3" blade. Very fine cutting. My first grail.
Next would be my Spyderco Junior, Boker Kwaken, Kershaw Skyline, and CAS blue bone mini copper lock for more fancy time.
When I am not in Nj, or not as worried about the laws, I love my Spyderco Ti Military.
I agree, when I am doing construction I always have my CS Voyager with me as a beater.
For winter I normally carry g10 knives because just stainlessness steel can get really cold in the winter
what is the name of the last knife you showed?
My all time favorite edc knife right now is the Benchmade Griptillian in orange, I live it. It's the perfect size, weight, and the blade holds a great edge. I don't see myself carrying any other knife any time soon.
Spyderco Endurance 4 FFG, and Manbug SE, they work as a team. Great video Jeff.
Jeff, could you do a video on your top 5 knives for under $50 I'm just starting to get into collecting knives and zippos and would appreciate your input thanks
I like the sabenza, Kershaw blur, bm grip, zt 0566(unassisted) and lately the boker kwaiken. I don't own a sabenza but its one of them knives on my bucket list.
Top 5 would have to be my BM 940, 943 (I know they're practically the same but I love them both so much I had to keep them separate!), Centofante 3, Native 5, and Buck Vantage Pro in Tan, and the 940 and Centofante are tied for favorite vote personally. Great vid as always, thanks.
I carry either my SOG Aegis or Flash II for the deep pocket carry and their self defense capabilities, but I have to say my favorite is my Spyderco Tenacious. Super smooth, well built, cheap, awesome ergo's... I love it. I think I'm getting a Sage or Manix though soon so it's always up to change!
on your next knife review or for sale video, can you recommend knife brands and put a link to their websites? Thanks for the vids.
some great choice Jeff
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 knock off. Got it for $30. It's great. I'm saving for the real thing now.
Other great EDC: Sanrenmu 710, Ganzo G717. Cheap, great little knives you aren't afraid to use.
+ssbrosking36 I'm loving my RAT 2. It's $40 Canadian, and I use it for a lot of stuff....
i have edc my spyderco zdp-189 stretch for about 3 years and it has been amazing, zdp-189 is an incredible steel.
Mini Emerson CQC 15. The best aspects of a few different blade styles combined, Emerson durability and its great all use size make it the knife for me.
Benchmade 32, its nice and light, I like the color and it doesnt scare people, after a couple weeks of oiling, the D2 has been great, and a little bit of flipping here and there is always fun!
I also find it more useful to carry a smaller knife rather than a large knife, like you said it gives you a lot more control
My favorite EDC knife is my Spyderco Delica 4 FFG in Grey.
It gets more pocket time then any of my other knives.
I LOVE it. Other favorites of mine include my Tenacious, Mini Grip, Cara Cara 2 G10,
Buck Vantage Select Large and small, and my Sanrenmu 763.
Recently had my favorite blade fail me..And I'm looking to upgrade, last one was a Kershaw Blackout, and after several years of off and on carry, quite a sharpenings, and hours of playing with it the lock is worn out and not holding up so well anymore. I could send it back for warranty, but I want something new, torn between a Benchmade Griptillian, a waved Spyderco Endura 4, or one of Cold Steel's offers with a Tri-ad lock.
I love your videos but they would be a lot more helpful if you also added the price of the knife
Love that 707 too! Have 2 one in combo and one in reg blade
Mostly a Kershaw Cryo II (Hinderer designs are slick yet utilitarian), but I have a feeling the inbound camo Spyderco PM2 is going to shake things up a bit.
What about the Spyderco tenacious?
I really enjoy my Kershaw Skyline. It's my Top 1 because of the two folders I own, it's the only one that is designed for EDC. I really enjoy it, but maybe in the future may step it up to something more upscale.
@Jeff: Do you have a "suit" knife? As in a knife that you would go well in a causal or business suit? Something that is classy, suave, and elegant while functional. Like a Baladeo 37g Pocket knife with zebra wood that seemed functional with a dash of elegance.
That a hard question. Love my Sage 1 but I'd have to go with my CRK Sebenza 25
My current edc is the Paramilitary 2, with digital handle and satin blade. Love that knife, just cant put it back in the drawer.
I was just talking with my followers about these review vids and then you got me with the tag. XD interesting coincidence. I'm currently carrying a Gerber folding knife and their 'Curve' multi tool. I don't know the model of the folding knife but, it has a very light weight, slim profile, black textured handle, body spring lock, and a great right handed-tip down clip. the 'Curve' is nice and small for a pocket multi. about 2 inches long with an inch blade, 2 flathead drivers, a file/phillips and a bottle opener/key ring clip. =]
sage 3 for me. looking into some newer stuff . speaking of selling/trading could you give some info on those outlets please.
I guess you can carry a big folding blade in PA? I live in MO and even with my carry permit I can't carry anything (concealed) with a blade bigger than 4 inches.
The large Sebenza 21 with cocobolo inlays is on my wishlist, I'm 17 and I just got a job so it's going to take a long time saving up for one (won't save all of my pay up every month, I also need money for other gear and need to save up for my driving license)
I also have my eye on a endura and delica FFG and a Cold Steel large voyager (tanto or vaquero)
Yep, instead of the Sebenza, I got the Spyderco Brad Southard flipper, and the Spyderco Techno. Couldn't be happier. Both of those knives are superb. I'll get a Sage 2 eventually as well.
I own the Delica 4 with the wave feature and I absolutely love it
You should put amazon links to all the stuff down in the description
My two favorites I carry everyday are the Spyderco Endura 4 Lonewolf edition ( got it right after you had reviewed it) and a Knives of Alaska Orange Featherlight hunter folder.
My edc is a $50 outdoor edge divide. Works great
I just carry a cheap $10 Sanrenmu 763. It does the job fine and I'm quite surprise by the performance.
Paramilitary 2! Took me a while to find one but that to me is the ideal edc.
Great cut 👍👍👍👍
You should do a top 5 edc fixed blades
My favorite edc blade currently has to be my zt 0550. Its a thing of beauty. But my spydercos (s35vn paramilitary 2, yojimbo, military and bd30p manix 2) all get regularly carried. I keep carry a waved endura in my gym shorts every day as well. That thing just wont rust.
i love my tiger usa karambit with a 2.75 inch semi serrated blade its an assessed opening knife and i just love it
Are there any fixed blade EDC carriers? What do you suggest? (Anyone who has a answer, I'm all eyes/ears... Even a video is nice)
Yes, my primary EDC is a fixed blade, which is superior in both self defense (draw speed) and utility (structural strength) purposes. I started out on some cheap ones: the buck paklite large skinner and the schrade schf15. Then the benchmade adamas fixed and sometimes a mora. It's very doable (even more comfortable than carrying a folder in my opinion; I notice a knife less on my belt than I do in my pocket).
I may seem naive but what does EDC stand for?? (Mobile)
Fav knife will always be the classic spyderco Endura 4 but i also love carrying my Byrd crow quality may not be up to par with spyderco but the design is fantastic for edc
I love my benchmade mini gripptianan it has awesome blade steel and it is light just perfect for me
EDC Blades (Typical)
Benchmade 915 Triage Plain Edge and Victorinox Farmer + Dedicated Scissors. I also typically carry a Charge TTi for the pliers along with a light.
It's kind of weird the two knives that started out being my "Grail" knives when I first got into knives here on TH-cam. BECAUSE OF YOU. LOL Those two knives are the only two that I own anymore for EDC carry. The Griptilian and the Paramilitary 2. Only recently have I been carrying and trying out the Vulcan Coronado.
I edc a large, raindrop Damascus sebenza. I know there are better edc steels out there but I just like to carry Damascus because almost no one else does. Makes me feel special
My favs are my 940 Benchmade ans my Spyderco Caly 3 ZDP-189
I love them both for sure
Care to elaborate?
ZT 0560CBCF love this thing its such a sick knife even if they didnt nail the heat treat on it and my Benchmade 755 MPR thing is just awesome in hand
what is the exact name of the Cold steel one ? i could not find the vesion he is using in this video. thanks!
Cold steel medium clip point plain edge voyager
+Tactical Patriot2000 thanks mate!!
+Willi Weigold (RekSaiNeedsATent) your very welcome
my favorite edc knife right now is the benchmade 943 satin finish
SOG Flash II ends up going with me during the day at work and a CRKT Fire Spark at night. I have several others but I seem to keep coming back to those two.
Looking forward to the etlines review!
Hey Jeff you should really think about taking krav maga. Excellent way to learn practical self defense and a great workout to lose weight too. Keep it up man!
my favorite edc knife isn't a folder but a multitool, the swisstool
My favorite right now is my zt 350 tiger strip. Its on the heavy side but it is my first high quality knife and I love it. But I really want a zr 560 and I want to get another Kershaw leak cause police aren't to fond of larger knives here in New Jersey
Huge fan
Sebenza
