Thinking that countries don't spy on each other even if they're allies is hilarious! The whole reason humankind hasn't come together as one is because we don't trust each other

I honestly couldn't believe his naivete. I thought everyone understood the basics of spies. Everyone is spying on everyone else all the time. Spies also get caught or discovered all the time (relatively speaking) without any of us hearing about it for a whole slew of reasons.
A lot of the time, I imagine they just keep tabs on the spy and don't give them any important (or correct) information. Not to mention his thoughts on how impossible it is that a spy could be in an elected position in Australia.
You didn't even get Jackson's point. How many times did he say countries spy on their allies. He specifically meant undercover agents.

I think what he was TRYING to say, was that if Australia is already sharing such a large % of their sensitive info with the US, why risk a spy getting caught and losing that info forever because they no longer trust you with the info anymore.
Especially from a country as non threatening as Australia.
It’s pretty much saying “you get 99% of their info forever.
if you send a spy you get the extra 1%, but every year there’s a %1 chance that he gets caught and you lose all %100 of the info that you are getting”.
Not a worth while trade off. The risk FAR outweighs the rewards.
(To be clear, if I think there is any country dumb enough to take that risk, it’s the U.S. but Jackson had a genuinely valid and well reasoned argument, he just explained it terrible.
Yeah its a sentiment that most Australians share. Like everyone here knows that the US probably has access to all of our government information so there's really no point in spying when there's pretty much nothing to spy on. We're sometimes the 51st state in some ways considering how much information we share lol

As a pharmacy technian i really wonder what the contracts these companies sign that have medications costing thousands and thousands of dollars and but then say "we want to get you your medication at affordable prices" its so wild to me
Saying you want to do something isn’t very legally binding, like if someone tried suing for that claim they could say they truly want to, BUT they need to meet stakeholder expectations that quarter and would lose investors if they didn’t sell it for that much, and then they would “need” to increase the prices more. I don’t agree with that take, but a judge might.

Not excusing his own responsibility for his behavior and or the ways he has treated various women in his life, but on top of that trauma and being a child star it's hard not to feel like he was set up to be like us. Really hoping he can turn his life around and somehow make things right with the people that he's wronged.
The hard part is majority of abusive relationships keep going because the "person changed". It's an never ending cycle.

@@Edward-Not-Elric true to some extent but Jackson acknowledges his mistake and corrects himself. Also he said himself that he just finds ist perplexing that allies would spy on each other and risk upsetting the union. (It is naive but he is at the very least the most willing to self correct)

The others had every right to tease him for being naive, but it was pretty annoying to hear them hammer on the same point that it *DOES* happen for a bit instead of *immediately* pivoting into giving potential reasons why.

About the spy topic, it's not the goal of any spy to be found. Of course there would be controversy if they got found out, that means bad personal security. If an Australian spy just gets spotted then America is worried about who else spotted them and their information, but it doesn't cause international distrust. International trust is only built on treaties rather than friendliness.
