I'm an American who has moved to Quebec and need more of these videos. I'm currently taking lessons and have been for some time but it doesn't always stick. The stories you use to explain the language helps with memorization - it's also fascinating. I did not know there were two stems of french here. I also did not know the relationship between past maritime/nautical language and current day use. I can see why embarquer and démbarquer was used so much, especially by those living on l'île d'Orléans. Back in the day, those living on the island had to get in a barque to have their grain milled on the mainland. Imagine having to cross the St Laurent, back and forth weekly to get your grain milled, just so you can make bread! Time consuming and dangerous! I would love it if you made more anglais/français videos! Nice work.
Love this lesson because you blended history with pronunciation. The hardest part of learning another language for me is listening, so the subtitles are super helpful.
I liked this very much. My grandpa moved to the US in 1912 from Quebec and I have been trying to learn French on my own. In high school we only had the option to take German or Spanish. So I took a class at a technical college at night but it was terrible. I'm so glad I found your channel! I subscribed.
Allô Geneviève. Pour une canadienne, Québécoise qui vit aux USA pour plus de 30 ans , j'adore ces mots Québécois. C'a me rapelle mon enfance à Montréal qui me manque énormément. Merci pour continuer la culture Québécoise et pour toujours. Il me manque d'embarquer dans l'autobus pour aller au travail et débarquer... Enfin, vive le Québec je me souviens.🇨🇦🚆
Thank you! Yes please put the English translation so we can understand each word you say or phrases you say. Thank you this means a lot to us, Filipinos here in Quebec trying to learn french
Thanks for putting your content in English too, both English and Quebec French are fine , congratulations for your good work , for those who are learning Quebec French
As an English and Spanish speaker, the spoken English helps me out a lot! Thank you for providing explanations and context with your teachings as well. Cheers, madame!
Nous avons besoin de gens qui invitent et rendent à l'aise les anglophones et les allophones dans ce pays et c'est tout à fait ce qui manque. Cette vidéo permet d'accroître une ouverture, merci Geneviève, ça fait du bien !
I do understand a fair bit of Quebecois french, however I still learned something and enjoyed this video very much and especially explanations as to where the words originate - embarquer and debarquer. THANK YOU !!!!!

Thank you so much for this video in English! As someone of French Canadian heritage who lives in New England, I really want to learn Quebec French, but it's difficult to find resources that focus on it, so thank you for filling this gap! While I know some basics in French, I am not advanced enough to follow your French language videos yet, so this video was incredibly helpful for me. I hope to be able to understand and enjoy your fully French videos soon!
Merci pour le contenu en anglais! Je me rappelle quand j'étais à Maroc et le chauffeur d'autobus m'a dit . Je ne me suis pas rendu compte que le verbe et utilisé uniquement au Canada dans ce contexte
Pretty similar to New-Brunswick French! Except for Tantot, we would say "Ajeuve" for "earlier today", and "Bétôt" for "later today" (probably specific to the Chia/Acadian dialect).
Great video in English explaining Quebec words! I'm from Norway and I've always been fascinated by pretty much everything that has to do with Canada, including its two languages English and French. I took some French classes in high school, partially because my aunt is from Switzerland and my mom can speak French fluently so they often have conversations in French together and I'm totally lost listening to them most of the time, save for the odd word here and there that I understand haha :) I've enjoyed your French videos with English subtitles and and you did really well wth this being your first video in English, I'm looking forward to more in both languages! :)
I’m moving to Quebec in about 2 months! I was born in Montreal but moved to Ontario when I was 5 I took French immersion in elementary school and as I am learning now I do have a good basis in which to grow from. Happy to have found your channel!

Yes!! Please, make more content in English. I’m from Toronto and am learning Quebec French. There’s so little content on this subject. Everything is about Parisian French but it’s irrelevant in Canada. It’s like learning Australian English while living in North America. Please, teach us more words, expressions and pronunciation about Québécois. There’s a looot of interest around your dialect among English speaking Canadians. Merci beaucoup 🤩
C’est noté! Merci d’avoir pris le temps de me répondre. (By the way, careful with the term « dialect », which has a negative connotation. It is preferable to use « variety » 🤓)
@@maprofdefrancais thanks so much for the correction :) I’ll use variety moving forward, sounds way better ;) I’m going to Montreal in 2 weeks for a week, every time I drive to Quebec it feels great!! I love your province, it’s indeed beautiful 😍

Wonderful idea. At my age and living in Toronto, I have no immediate need to learn French but I always felt I should acquire some proficiency in the language of Quebec. In my days, growing up in Europe anyone planning a trip abroad which in Europe often means a couple of hour drive, would try to learn at least some basic phrases in the local language.
