An Errant Dawn is the last book in the Demon trilogy, which follows Derick, a man created to fight the monsters that threaten the humans in his city. a man who enjoys what he does, until a demon does something contrary to what he has been taught demons do.
Derick has left civilization behind to discover who he is without them presuring him to be what they need him to be. The wilderness has been hard, but he survived, hunting and evading the military who still wants him back.
When he finds himself hunted by one of the creature of the wild, winning almost doesn't happen, and the last thing he expects is to wake up from that in a bed.
Derick might have found something everyone believes is impossible, but just as he starts to consider he might be able to live here, Claws in the Dark finds him with news that Amanda got herself kidnapped, by human criminal who want to force her to make more like Derick for them to use as foot soldiers. Derick wants nothing to do with her, but Claws won't let more of his people be turned into weapons for humans. so with, or without Derick, he will go help the military wrench her out of their grasp.
Reluctantly, Derick leaves his sanctuary to protect claws from the military.
What they find when they reach their destination is nothing like either expects, and the military might be the least of their problems.
because there is something even Claws in the Dark fears in that city.
