Happens in most areas with a lot of iron in the water and is very difficult to clean off.
Well water. I have similar, but not nearly as bad a problem. Iron out works really well to clean it

I know this is about drain unblocking but if I knew an engineer was going to access my bathroom I would at least have made a effort to tidy it up. Jeez, no excuse to me to see that bath 'full' of hairs, and those shower tiles. Jeez.

I've seen a LOT worse, especially students. Went to unblock a shower a while back and there were used sanitary towels on the floor!

Never ever block accesspoints! And always provide a detailed blueprint for where pipes and wires go!

Exactly what I was thinking! No access panel to reach the P-trap under the bath and no accesspoint outside for the drain. What was the builder thinking.
Laws are only as good as their enforcement, and having binged this dude's entire channel, it seems like plumbing code stuff gets no enforcement at all.

Those laws exist now, but those drains were probably installed over 50 years ago.
I live in a block of units built in the 70s and when we had a plumbing issue in one of the other units, no one knew where anything was, made everything a massive pain.

Bathrooms can be cleaned. Damaged pavers are expensive to replace.

This is why I always recommend getting 10 additional pavers to put aside for repairs down the line.

Clearly you weren't a watcher of the Great Grease Trap of October 13th 2023. We never did get a part 2, likely because it got cleared off screen when the grease trap was pumped.
@alphazero924 I must say, The Grease trap episodes turn my stomach a bit. The fatty gunk is repulsive - sometimes it looks alive when it comes out in giant chunks. Definitely Hazmat suit type of work!

It's fascinating and often a mystery how things are plumbed, your enthusiasm to get to the bottom of the problem is contagious, I live in Germany and wish you good flow at the bottom of the gully mate.

We had to replace a drain that was under a set of concrete steps and sidewalk last winter with three feet of snow on the ground and temps of -30 F! Talk about a nightmare. Even a jackhammer didn't work. The plumber wound up hiring a guy with a backhoe. Cost a fortune but we did get the drain replaced and it works beautifully

Not really a different choice for them. Also... why the f did the builder not provide an access panel for the bad? You can easily make an access panel in the side of the 'wall' for the bath in the tiles. You'll barely see it. Why did the builder not provide this? There's no way a homeowner or pumbler can access the trap under the bath.
Im sure they appreciated that you did everything you could before resorting to removing the cement. Can't wait for part 2!

Cheers from a fellow drain lover in New Orleans..I am a former NYC superintendent and I loved sitting in when the plumbers came in to clear the drains. which was often - since our buildings were all pre 1900 in downtown NY, and there was a lot of sediment build up inside the pipes over the decades. The BIG SNAKE was always trotted out. Only those who've been in the field..can understand.. And truly appreciate the thrill...
