The genre-savvy and enigmatic "Dr. Alto Clef" maintains that its true name is that of an A major chord played on a ukelele, which it carries around with it at all times should other entities wish to address it by name. Dr. Clef has received its current nickname due to its habit of signing reports with a hand-drawn Alto Clef symbol. Although apparently competent at its job, its acerbic attitude and habit of annoying its coworkers by walking around minimal security areas with unfurled cinnamon rolls stuck in its nose has gained it the enmity of several of its coworkers.

@@rosedblossom All anomalies are disturbances of reality, so with Clef in proximity, reality becomes "normal", non-anomalous. For instance, SCP-173 is just regular statue in his presence. But his effect isn't permanent and can only weaken particularly strong SCPs.
Bright and Kondraki probably play the A major chord on every instrument except the Ukulele just to piss Clef off.

The location of Dr clefs third eye isn't specified. in fact all that's stated in his personal file is "It has one green eye, one blue eye, and one hazel eye, both of which appear to have pupils which absorb all light falling upon it" hinting that Dr Clef has three eyes. His personal file is really interesting and I would recommend you read it if you're still interested in reading more.

More Juicy Info about Dr Clef.
1) Dr. Clef is able to kill many unbelievably unstoppable SCPs because he is an inhuman, super strong reality bender himself. Hence the picture issue. His strength is easily on the level of Abel, which is why the idea of intimidating 682 in a staring contest didn't seem to be a bad idea to him at a time, and 682 didn't even bother attacking him as they were both equally surly and violent. Most of his reality tricks are mostly odd and not all powerful, but between an extreme resistance to stuff that normally incapacitates humans and his relentless desire to stop XK End of the World Scenarios even if it means using weaponry and violence that would cause a lot of collateral damage, he usually is able to kill or stop a lot of SCP's most entire units wouldn't stand a chance against.
2) He indeed was married to a goddess at some point, SCP 9927 (EDIT: or more accurately KTE 9927 by the GOC, as the goddess hasn't had a universally agreed upon SCP number), and was forced to kill her during the 9927 BLACK incident, where the goddess went mad and tried to revert the earth to a tecnology-less hellscape where plants would erupt basically everywhere, killing billions. It is unknown how old Clef is. He's likely been alive for ages.
SCP 166, the teenage Gaia, is indeed his daughter, and he loves her unconditionally. She was raised in a nunnery most of her life away from her father and mother for multiple reasons. Caring for her while she eventually found herself in containment as a teenager has supposedly mellowed Clef out a bit about necessary evils, although he is no less a violence nut.
3) He claims to be the devil, but such a claim is easily among his many lies. There are hints that at the very least he might be some sort of Sumerian Demon, as he is linked to an SCP from that long ago time period. His relationship to his superiors is basically what you'd expect....he's basically Alucard from Hellsing, although (likely) not a vampire, just an inhuman weapon nut who gets the job done, He's solved incidents that could of caused XK Class End of the World Scenarios many, MANY times both within the GOP and Foundation, but he gives his superiors and colleagues headaches because he's that much of a loose cannon. For woman, its quite literal headaches, he gives off an aura that repulses most woman, although like many abilities of the nature, they can mostly be ignored if you are aware of it.
These are among the many, many details about Alto Clef, although the ones mentioned above have mostly been confirmed in multiple stories, hence they are worth noting.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention two things.
4) Clef wasn't just married to the Goddess. Clef also has an Ex, SCP-336, also known as Lilith. She is an Arabic woman with slightly lizard like features on her skin with powers that are definitively evil in nature, but she herself is mostly a pacifist, and one of the few SCP's that actually asked to be turned in.
5) While there is no official explanation for his true identity, there is one entity that fits both his history and his exact personality. This is pure headcanon, but it seems to match.
Clef is Azazel. Not just any version of Azazel, as there are countless interpretations, but Azazel from the Book of Enoch. The one obsessed with human weapons.

it isn't scp 9927 it is KTE 9927, just letting you know, and teenage gaia is likely KTE 9927 Blackchild and in one or two tales he actually succeeds in killing the witch child (if I remember right and it was through a scp painting where her powers were unable to do anything in one and in the other he melted her) because he is basically a moving scranton reality anchor, but the most commonly accepted tale is the one where he is able to put her in an artificial coma. Those tales where he kills her take place after the coma tale btw.

That includes Dr. Clef, any researchers who accidentally gain powers who are assigned to Keter Duty, and the Mobile Task Force MTF Omega 12 aka Achilles Heel. All of them have powers but don't need an SCP designation since they are the ones doing the SCP job.

You left out his horrible fashion sense, his heterochromia, and yes, it is very likely he was (abused) into a relationship with a goddess, who gave birth to a girl with antlers.

@@Lady_Chalk Ah, you misunderstand. KTE 9927 The Goddess, Gaia, was Clef's wife, and Clef was forced to kill her when she went mad.
Clef was not married to her forever though. Even though he knew Gaia for a very long time, a prior marriage was actually with SCP 336, Lilith. She is his other wife and current ex.
She is rather unique in that she actively found an scp agent on vacation and went into the back of his car and asked to be put into containment, even though the agent never revealed he was Foundation. She has also acted heroically once, despite her powers being more or less evil in nature. While she is introverted, has slight vanity issues and is a little annoyed by tests, she is one of the most model cooperative behavior from a non-human but sentient SCP. She gets a lot of what she requests within reason, and is only refused access to several scp objects which she seems to have knowledge of.

So lets say the scarlett king is the personification of Satan aswell? Some people pointed out that Dr. Clef might be even him… Putting all that together, knowing that The Scarlet King was in love with a Goddess, which gave him the 7 brides, would that mean that scp-239 is the incarnation of the goddess? Is that why he wanted to kill the Witch child? because if she would start remembering, she would hunt down the Dr. Cleff?
The Montauk House by has to be my favorite story about Clef. Hell, it's why Clef is my favorite researcher in the SCP universe. Hearing about all he went through working for the GOC and killing Type Greens, being abused, all the mental breakdowns. You really can't blame him for how he is now.

He is a reality bender that is literally immune to effects of cognitive hazards and anomalous objects (he once dressed 173 up with a wig and dress and took it on a date whilst 2 guards just watch until he told them it was okay to close their eyes) and has killed multiple instances of dangerous scps and is also married to a goddess, is the father of plant girl (forgot her name) and is pretty much immortal as,said on the wiki so yeah, I wouldn't be so quick to rule him out.
Oh he did punish a guest researcher by tossing him to SCP 682.. after that one did use kids to see if it refused to kill them. but sadly it did just devour the kids.
Clef ain't having none of that so he kicked the researcher in there to SCP 682.

When Clef got angry at her for playing with life and death by reviving a bird, her perception of her turned him murderous to her, getting the false impression that he wanted to kill her He tried to resist, wrote in his diary entry of Clef struggling as his level 3 reality warping resistance was being overcome by her level 4 reality bending.
His second wife and current ex, Lilith, somehow sensed this happening cause when Kondraki tried to fight Clef and Clef knocked Kondraki to the floor, SCP 336 Lilith broke containment and they talked and finally injured Clef enough so that he couldn't kill the Witch Child.

I read a very short story / theory that I kinda liked
The story was that when Dr Bright died the first time, he actually survived after a copy of himself was put in the amulet, meanwhile the original Bright goes off after being assumed as dead. He joins the GOC, goes back to SCP under a new name, Alto Clef

Bright and Clef are two self insert by previous authors. I prefer how scp are writing recently than that era of quirky marie sue self inserts to be honest. Although Dr. Bright is handled way better these days
Cleft is such a strange guy, but is always respectable with how much he protects and cares for his daughter, the teenage gaia

He is a reality bender in a sense, but most of his reality bending skills are weak and used for deception, while his reality bending resistance is very high. His presence doesn't weaken reality bending in the area, it simply protects him. So its hard to say he's an anchor.
Either that's the nature of his powers he was born with, or he originally had both very powerful reality bending and reality bending resistance, but something caused him to lose most of his powers, but a lot of his passive resistance remain.
If he is who I think he is, then I'm thinking its the latter.

@@junconglin Clef, as he states in his Suicide Note, is a reality anchor, meaning he can’t interact with any anomalies anomalously and they can’t interact with him either, meaning both reality benders can do nothing to him. In the suicide note story, he also says before killings himself m he crippled 343, and put a cocktail of cyanide and anomalous acid into 239’s drink and killed her, only because he was so frightened that she could actually interact with him anomalously.

Dr. Clef's powers are all odd but one major one include being a reality anchor of sorts, however his resistance only goes up to Level 3 reality bending, and SCP 239 is a level 4 reality bender. When he chastised The Witch Child for playing with life and death by bringing a bird back to life, she got so frightened by his anger that her perception of Dr. Clef was 'he wants to kill me'. As such, that effect took place but not immediately, he was writing in his notes in a panicked manor as he was trying to resist her reality perception changing him for as long as he can. He eventually succumbed to it but was thankfully stopped.
When Dr Kondraki tried to stop him, they had a fight and Kondraki was knocked to the side, but not completely unconscious. But then Dr. Clef's second wife and current ex, SCP 336 Lilith, appeared out of containment and talked with him, trying to convince him to not kill someone so innocent, and she eventually injured her ex-husband enough so that he failed to kill the Witch Child. She then put her mask back on and went back into her containment cell.
I totally understand why everyone finds Clef slimy.

Im so glad Clef finally got his own video. Honestly the whole incident with SCP 239 deserves its own video with how intense the whole situation was and the use of several SCPs between Clef and Kondraki's fight.
The "Alto Clef" symbol is NOT a "type of musical note". (@ 02:05).
Clefs are used at the beginning of the staff with key and time signatures to let you know which note to play and the count for that note. For example, if you have a full open circle on the middle line of the staff, the note can change depending on whether the clef is Treble, Bass, or Alto and the key signature (sharps and flats)given, and the length of the note will vary based on the time signature (as in 4/4, 2/4, 6/8, etc.)
So, it is a NOT a note. Just a friendly FYI. 😌🎼🎵 🎶

So he murdered a huge chunk of his research staff, is infamous not only for being a loose cannon but also basically known to every woman in the foundation as a sexually harassing tailchaser but he also relishes in the idea of decommisioning SCPs in the most violent ways possible which directly goes against the Foundation's stated methods, goals and moral underpinnings. And yet he works there because the SCP foundation would rather have control of this monster to sick him on whomever and whatever they choose rather than actually do something to stop him.

If you read the list of things Dr. Bright is not allowed to do, it says, quote, "There is no such thing as an Ethics Committee. And even if there was, what makes you think Bright would be on it? Other than as an example of what not to do."
Oh yes, the ethics committee hates him, but his continued employment falls in line with their rules. Both in the GOC and Foundation, he's solved so many would-be XK Class End of the World Scenarios by his extreme resistance to SCP's, super strength, and willingness to eliminate with extreme prejudice. He's basically the Alucard of the SCP Foundation. He goes on many walks.
He's too valuable to dispose of. He's a necessary evil, as stated.

Well clef was actively preventing himself from killing 239 after she made him murderous
Maybe, maybe not. One of the in-universe theories is that the witch girl herself both caused Clef to try to kill her and caused Kondraki to protect her, just by believing they would.

@@junconglin One thing that's not often mentioned was that when he was in his 'kill little girl' state due to his perception, not only did Kondraki try to stop him yet wasn't enough, but Clef's other ex, SCP 336 Lilith, got out of containment and made his endeavor to kill her fail. Despite having powers that can only be described as evil, she herself is actually very much an anti-hero and felt Clef killing the Witch Child was going too far.
I'm starting to get a good idea of who Clef is after looking at the Book of Enoch. The idea he sleeps with woman despite being (REDACTED), how old he is, his love for weapons...

As far as I understand it, Dr. Alto Clef was Francis or SCP-4231-B, he was a Type Green or a reality bender and he worked with the GOC, ironically, hunting reality benders. He was with a girl who was his best friend since childhood, SCP-4231-A or Lilly and who was most likely SCP-231-1, who was also a Type Geen/Reality bender, she was abusive towards him quite possible because of her reality bending abilities, and there's a lot of background, I would certainly recommend reading all of those aforementioned SCP files. They eventually had a child, SCP-166 or Meri, who was born during the Cornwall incident, more on that in the SCP-4231 article, basically Dr. Clef thought that Lilly would get even worse after the birth of Meri and killed her, then he and Meri were captured, Meri was supposed to be killed but was instead smuggled into a Christian monastery if I understand it correctly (possibly by clef himself? but idk this is all very speculative and unclear), Dr. Clef then after some time of suffering though PTSD and various other mental illnesses from what he had experienced joined the foundation as a Researcher but he never speaks of what happened to him in the past and refuses to reveal any information on the Montauk procedure that was conducted by either him or Lilly or them both. This all folds into the Scarlet King story, supposedly Lilly was conducting the Montauk procedure on the rest of SCP 231s along with Dr. Clef back then but nobody knows if Clef was the one who instigated it and if he was the one who was actually abusive or if it was really Lilly and this all ties into the Scarlet King storyline. As for what happened after, there's like 6 different tales where Dr. Clef dies so that's up to the reader, and Lilly's remain were used to construct a reality anchor, as is depicted at the end of SCP-4231 article, which is one of my favourites so I recommend reading it.

As a music nerd this kinda bugged me so I just want to make a slight correction! At 1:58 an Alto Clef is not a musical note but a musical symbol that marks where middle C is on the music staff. If we want to get nitty and gritty it is called a C Clef, but is most commonly referred as Alto Clef. Just a little music lesson from a music nerd who takes music wayyy too seriously!

Quick correction: a clef isn't a musical note. It's simply a marker at the start of a bar of musical notation to tell the musician how the notes are supposed to be read.
