  • I'm just going through old magazines, looking for images, words, and phrases I can use in my glue books. This is fun and relaxing, but not as fun and relaxing as actually gluing them into your books! Thanks for coming along!

This video helped confirm that I am not crazy. I was in the hospital last year for gallbladder surgery and then I got pneumonia. While I was there, My oldest stepbrother broke into my home and videotaped things like my stash of magazine cutouts, stacks of old books that are falling apart, children's books (I don't have kids or grandkids), etc. Then he sent the video to my other 2 stepbrothers and stepsister. He and my stepsister came to the hospital for an "intervention" because I keep worthless old stuff. They seriously talked about Baker Acting me. I'm so happy to know I'm not nuts! I also enjoyed hearing your thinking as you go through a magazine. Thanks so much for sharing this video, Diane.

Oh gosh, I would end up with the entire magazine torn out. Something, either beautiful color or patterns would get my attention. Fun flip through Diane.

I have a box of magazines to cut up. I usually look at them for artistic inspiration. When I cut them up I’ll be looking at them differently after seeing this. I think making a glue book would be fun. Thanks for sharing.

I don't even know what a glue book is, so I'm glad I will find out through your videos. Thank you.

You're so right about us seeing pictures we would want and wondering why you passed it by, which is why I usually try not to watch these videos, because I get my hoarding self so worked up about what got thrown out! Haha! C

This was so relaxing, watching you go through the magazines! Can't wait to see the flip through of your glue book. Seems like the magazines I find leave me conflicted and overthinking...there's always stuff on both sides of the page so I have to decide which one I want to keep!

Cutting magazines are by far my most fun thing to do! I do it in bed, in my craftroom and even when my kids are dirt bike riding lol! My glue book is finally finished and it was my most satisfying project yet😀

I have picked up tons of magazines from my library, but never HGTV or WSJ. Thank you for the ideas of what to use.

Glue books are how I started my love affair with junk journaling. I've recently pilfered the same HGTV magazine you did here. One of my favorite things to do with clippings of patterned rugs, drapes, or furniture is to use punches on them. I need to put something heavier behind them though. Thanks for the inspiring video!

Very helpful video and a really neat process. I have always loved magazine images and the art but didn't know what to do with them. Tfs

Loved listening to this video. It gives me confirmation of what is now a favorite pastime! I recently cut out an image that I was going to use in a collage-flipped it over to glue and used the backside instead. The resulting silhouette was much more interesting. Who new? Great idea to check out the library for resources. Thanks.

Excellent video! I didn't think of going to the library for old magazines. Not sure why because that's where I get old books. (I love my library!) I'll cut out larger pictures of food when I see patterns in the food that may make an interesting background. #craftyhodges has an excellent video as well on what she cuts out of magazines. She makes the quirkiest characters out of such unlikely things (at least to my untrained eye). I honestly could have watched a lengthy video of you flipping through all your magazines and chatting. Hope this doesn't sound too weird; I often will rewatch your videos to help me relax because I find the sounds of your voice and the flipping through journals relaxing.

Thank you! I love Joann from CraftyHodges! She's awesome. I'm so glad you find my videos relaxing (not weird at all! Many people tell me my voice is soothing to them).

This video couldn't have come at a better time! I've recently become fascinated with glue books. I binge watched yours and Paula Foerder's glue book videos and am starting one. In one of your earlier videos you talked about how when you first learned about them you thought "Well, that's a waste of time. " 😂😂 That's how I felt for awhile but now I can't wait to start one! For me it seems more stream of consciousness, whereas with making junk journals I over think. Can't wait to see your flip through!!

Good explanation. I felt the same way too...I couldn't grasp the point of spending time finding images, gluing them wherever, for what seemed to be no reason, sort of pointless. Then, after binge-watching YT's, I now love it. I really enjoy watching others deciding on what pieces they will and won't include, too.

My library sometimes has a box of free magazines in the lobby. I just take them. They also always gave a book sale in the lobby, usually $1 a bag!
