I'm in the process of buying a new TV and I came across the phillips hue leds where the leds match the content on the TV.
My question is, does the phillips ambilight tvs give the same lighting effects and performance than buying a different manufacturer TV and installing the phillips hue syncbox and lighting strips.
I ask this because the phillips hue syncbox and gradient strip is about £400 just for the kit or i can pick up a phillips ambi light TV for about £500 . So wondering if this is the same lighting kit already built in.
    Thank you in advance

The biggest problem with doing it that way is the full light kit costs the same as this TV , the kit will not follow any apps on the TV itself , you will need to use an external source for streaming apps. When you use the AMBI Light kit and use an app in the TV's Operating system the kit will not follow whats on the TV.

I bought the Philips 55PDU6794/44 manufactured February 2020 made in China and my experience was HORRIBLE! It never connected to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 properly, at the beginning it works "so-so" connecting to my Note10 but now, even when both devices recognize each other, the Phillips TV disconnect the phone immediately it is connected. On the other hand, when you navigate for some hours on TH-cam (my main use) it freezes and it's necessary to reset everything in order to have TH-cam back functional again AND the same happen with Netflix, the navigation is quite slow and interrupted until it freezes... . The connection with my Bose Home Theater is intermittent, sometime, if you have luck, it works, mostly, it's not. So, the only feature works is the ambilight, but the other features are HORRIBLE!!! I'm not sure to try Phillips products again...

At least your TV is still working. I had a 58PUS8535 and I had problems with it too. But I never had lag with it.
First I had AV Sync problems. When I switched HDMI source the AV Synce witld be massively off. I laways had to go into AV Sync settings to go from av sync adjust on then off for it to fix but even at that there was a very slight delay in the sound.
Philips eventually put a passthrough mode for av sync which only worked as long as you stay on the same input source. If I changed HDMI Source AV Sync would go way off again. I had to change from passthrough to av sync option back to passthrough.
Then there was the GAMMA problem. Sometimes I would be watching something and there would be picture Banding all over the screen. To fix that I had to go into picture settings and adjust gamma down one notch and back to where it was for the picture to go back to normal.
Other than those two issues I had the TV had a fantastic picture (a million times better than the LG TV I'm using for now) , Great sound and ARC Audio out sounded great on the TV.
But the TV just quit working on me after 13 months.

I see some people thrashing on this TV because of greyish blacks but thats what you get with the majority of TV's with an IPS panel.Even the LG 50UQ70006 that I have which has a VA pannel has absolutely awful blacks on the screen. Theyre not even dark grey , theyre light grey on my current TV.
I have the 50PUS7906 ordered and on a courrier van on its way. Its due tomorrow and if the blacks are even 1% darker than my current TV I will be happy with it once it works properly.
On top of getting the TV way cheaper than anywhere else with the store I bought it from here in Ireland I also received a six year waranty from that store for free.

I'm getting stuttering in videos while Using apps like netflix , discovery+ , Disney+ etc.
4ak videos on TH-cam causes a lot of stuttering and lag.
I've had the TV lockup and freeze in apps for up to 30 seconds a few times.

When you use an app on the TV android os you get basic settings for picture and sound. When you use an external source you get a popup with various boxes for various settings for the TV. At the home screen you get a different menu system for everything on the TV.
If you can wait and save a bit more money I would suggest buy a different Philips TV in the 8*** series instead.
This TV has a fantastic picture but they seem to have scraped the bottom of the Harrell with the CPU and/ GPU and the menu system is all over the place with it as well as modding some sound and picture settings.
Plus there's no seperate menu system for the TV itself. The picture and sound menus are baked into the android options menu.
You do get a good few options to change colour and gamma settings but it's missing other options for HDR I can't remember the options I had with the 58pus8535) and other picture settings and sound settings.
I got the TV trying to avoid using an external android box but with this thing being so underpowered I'm going to have to use my Homatics Box R 4K which doesn't support Dolby vision or Dolby Atmos

  • @Steve30x

I finally got the PHILIPS 50PUS7906 today. I can tell you with full confidence this is not a mid range TV.
Don't get me wrong the model I got has a VA panel and the picture is really really good on it. The blacks are very dark. Not quite OLED black but they're fat fat darker than IPS black which is grey.
Colours are very vibrant but not over saturated.
In fact it has much better picture than the PHILIPS 58PUS8535 I had which cost €250 more than this
Now I say it's not a mid range TV because it's missing picture features settings.
There's no smooth motion setting. There's various HDR settings missing. The settings for audio and picture are very basic.
Without disabling some system apps that are completely in necessary for Google TV , and a few other tweaks the TV can be very laggy. I now have it fat less laggy but it still lags a bit.
If you get the 7906 TV that has a VA panel then I would class it as a higher level low end TV.
I got the TV for €460 with a 6year warranty here on Ireland but it usually costs just over €500
