Congrats, Scott....your reversing in one shot was very well done. (compliment provided by an even "older-school" driver with 5.5 mio accident & claims-free kilometers under his belt since 1974, half of which at the wheel of transport-trucks in Canada and USA).
That said, I challenge you to do the same drop at the same place, but coming from the opposite direction, i.e. a blind-side maneuver in one swell-swoop. Are you game?
Oh...and btw....I concur with your sentiments about mirror-cams. The main reason is that for the brain to convert the eye's data into action, it expects the mirror to be outside the vehicle, not a virtual outside-mirror positioned inside the cab! (there are a number of other reasons, but I don't have the time to verbalize them at the moment).

I'm a van driver, not a truck driver , but I've always liked trucks and I'm sure the Merc is a lovely truck but Scania are in my opinion a better truck . I drive a pond wheel base 19 plate sprinter automatic, they are nice vans , not keen on the dash layout but I hope they never replace the mirrors with cameras ,. Can't beat glass 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧

Nothin wrong we a man or merc . All this badge snobbery is crap . I wonder if all these so called scania fans which are about 14 were to pay for a scania and the running costs of maintance and repair of said scania would be a fan of them so much . They like a lot of other brands gd when they new and under warrenty plus it comes down to back up too im not sayin i dislike scanias as i dont . I love the sound of a gd v8 . And other attributes . But ive seen how much it costs to run a used one and the problems of parts prices and some of the scania workshops are less than great or were when i was using them . All im sayin thT if some folk realised to costs of trucks they msybe wouldnt have the badge snobbery they seem to have . It dosent give some other great wagons a chance . It all comes down to experiences with truck . Backup is king .
The problem with camera "mirrors" is the picture is 2D so there is zero depth perception which is an important part of spatial awareness. This is also the main flaw in the hazard perception test and why it's incomparable to real-world driving for anyone with two eyes!

Truck maneuverability is better in Scania over Mercedes. I usually drive MAN and can't turn round on full lock in some places, this week I had Renault and Volvo which made life easy and more comfortable especially tight places absolutely amazing to drive and had ac for the first time in years too

Reversing a semi is just as easy as reversing a regular car. Try a scandinavian 25/25 combo with a dolly, and it's a different story.

Nice motor, too bad it’s not plain white (I don’t like livery or any bs on any vehicle, plain is best)
My personal opinion:
Turn reverse beepers off and cut down noise
Nothing wrong white Mercedes or mirror cams, they are the future and cut down in fuel consumption
I hope all these motors you mess about with have adaptive cruise, it’s a godsend, especially the Mercedes one that can bring you to a complete stop. Have fun & be safe

Who cares if it takes you 5 shunts too get in? Safety over anything as far. As I’m concerned. I’ve been class one for 6 years now and even now it can still take me a few shunts even at RDC’s. I couldn’t care less if there’s others watching. Personally if I see another class 1 struggle to reverse into a tight loading bay I get out and help, not sit there in my cab filming and staring at them like some moron who thinks he’s the perfect class 1 driver.

Scott I hope the truck does slow down for hills, otherwise be using the brake pedal. yeah you can't beat old school trucks when it comes to truck driving, no indecisive handbrake/hill hold releasing especially in a tight spot whereby loads of mini shunts are needed to jacknife the truck and then straighten up in a very confined space. you made the right decision on the truck. you cannot beat mirrors. especially when reversing into the sun.

I’m getting used to the mirror cams now! I like that the lines on the screens give you an idea of where other cars are when you’re indicating to change lane and I like the way the zoom changes when you reverse, great for blind siding. But like you say they are grainy and dark! As a night driver that’s never good 🤣 I also prefer mirrors.
Oh yeah they have good features about them ... just can't see very well through them 🤣
when reversing and they go into wide mode if you press the button you press to adjust the turning of the mirror it goes back to normal mode and you can see much better in tight places. i have been driving one of them and am getting used to it but like scott said there not up to standed yet on the picture quality.

Finally in a proper lorry. The MAN is okay, the Merc is a MASSIVE backward step but the Scania is a proper bit of kit.
True MANS are crap. Only Scania or Volvo in my books. Personally I prefer Volvos, purely because their more comfortable. Which is exactly why my boss brought me a Volvo FH.

We've got several where I work and every driver I've spoken to hates them.
As for the tablet style dash, how did you get on trying to turn up the fan while you're driving and bouncing up and down in the seat? it would be much easier with a rotary dial, same with the lights.
Lights and fan weren't too bad. The only thing that got me was the lift axle not being a physical button

I'm a night shift shunter for the company I work for. One thing I like about cameras over mirrors is that on dark, wet nights, I can see behind me. With mirrors, I can't.

Why your boss is buying them Merc’s I don’t know, they are riddled with faults & poor quality overall, Merc’s lose power overtime due to soot & cost more in fuel.
Where as Scania even with 500,000 ( new gen ) still hauls like new

Never used mirror cam but I think the biggest problem for me would be the head move. You know the head move right ? Where you move your head forward/backwards or left/right when entering/exiting or changing lanes to change the viewing angle and try and have a good look round to reduce blind spots. Was this an issue ? Interested to know.

Definitely the right decision taking the Scania over the newer Mercedes, I bet you don’t miss the annoying beeps, eco/short changing box and silly cameras, nice job on the reverse certainly would of took me a few shunts ✌🏻
