One of the best videos I've seen. Others should watch this to see how it was done. No long intro. No BS. No shaky camera with one hand and wrench in other. Great job.
I did this all with ratchets and a few hammers a couple years ago.... This looks so much easier and faster lmao. But I live in the middle of nowhere and can't get the fancy tools easy. So I think I'm going to do it with a hammer again. Your video was very good and quick, thank you for that.
Thank you for this video short and to the point. Watched a half dozen times and was able to change out one on my moms car today thank you for the video.
just changed my wheel bearing out. couple of tips: your better off buying a new wheel hub in case you accidentally cut too deep trying to take the inner race of the old wheel bearing on the wheel hub. Buy the wheel bearing press set and rent the slide hammer kit, you don't need a ball joint separator just a wrench that will fit in the tight gap that is 3/4 inch to take the nut off the ball joint. to separate the ball joint once you remove the nut, hammer the side of the control arm and get something long maybe a giant screw driver to hammer on top of the ball joint to push it down and out. make sure the wheel hub adapter in the slide hammer kit fits the studs where the lug nuts go before you rent it. get yourself a proper torque wrench that can torque to 200ft lbs for the axle nut. you will need a socket of 1 1/4 inch to fit the axle nut. make sure you have a back up vehicle if anything goes south.
This technique will only work well if the bearing has an inner race (ring) made of two piece. At 2:19 you can see how the inner race has a slit in the middle - it's made from two pieces, pressed in from each side. When he removes the race from the wheel hub, you can also see it's only a half. If the bearing that's installed on your car has a single piece inner race, then it will be a lot more difficult (impossible) to pull out the inner race and wheel hub, because you have to go "over" the bearing balls. A different technique with a press and a bridge should be used in that case. The problem is that you can't see what type of inner race (1 or 2 piece) you have installed until you remove the wheel hub. The Aveo that I worked on had a one piece inner race installed from the factory and I had to pull on it for hours using this technique, to the point where I bent the lug nuts. The wheel hub eventually came out, with the inner race of the bearing still on the car. Don't repeat my mistake.
A tip To tighten the axle nut: install the caliper, either put a long punch in the cooling vanes of the brake rotor or have an assistant hold the brake pedal
Thanks alot for the video,I appreciate your time to post and help others. the only thing I did different was to disconnect from the strut instead of the ball joint.
Thanks for the video. What do you mean 'bend the tabs?' And did you cut the entire bearing off? Seems like something I'd screw up. Are the rear bearings pretty similar to do?
Hi if you look @1:23 it's just the race of the bearing that you cut so you can remove it from the shaft if it is stuck due to rust, and bending the tabs are the metal indentation so the bolt does not come loose by accident, good luck it's a pretty hard job cheers
Excelente (VÍDEO) FELICITACIONES al técnico mecánico, pero lo más importante es que el técnico mecánico utilizó las herramientas idóneas para retirar los rodamientos inservibles y luego instalar los nuevos en los respectivos bocines.
I have a question on my Aveo there is noise in what sounds like coming from my rear passenger side wheel.theres definitely friction.sounds like if I go over a dump that wheel wants to come off.any idea of what this might be related to.id appreciate anyone's feedback

Spade Of All Trades ... I wasnt sure. I did not want to have to do anymore the necessary. I appreciate the time you took to post this. Without your time , people like myself would have no clue what was involved or how to go about it . Thanks and great video !
For the multiple bearings i had to pull out, it would never come out that easily. Always have to use my 10ton press. Always wondering how can it get out that easy!
I did all the mechanic work and took it to a machine shop and they charged $25 to press the bearings. I have 280k miles and have replaced both sides twice and doing the passengers side this weekend. I need this puller set.
Nice video but I am replacing bearing on my Aveo and when I installed the new bearing in I noticed that the hub was still loose and a lot of wiggle room is that the case with yours.
I bought those tools, I broke 3 studs/wheel bolts. My bearing doesn't seem to be bad, I'm just trying to change the broken studs. Now I'm stuck at the part where you pull out the hub... the tool doesn't seem to be up to the task, well I bought the chinese version off ebay... Some advises would be apreciated
oh man I worked so hard on the driver side to get it out I think it took 3 hours before it came out, if you can't get it out I recommend taking apart the whole assembly and bring it to the garage where they have an hydraulic press cheers
Hey! Thanks for the answer! After aligning the tool properly, that is at a 90° angle with the side of the car and with a temporary lug stud I was able to pull the hub out. I did it in the morning, the temperature was cold so maybe it helped. Cheers!
You see at 3:20 how that bearing hub is still woobly? I just replaced mine and it does the same thing, and when that happens the rotors hub the brake pad assembly, I am disgusted with this design by chevrolet.
IF you are still looking at your video, can you tell me why you froze the new bearing? Also, when i had my front wheel bearings replaced on my 2006 Aveo HB, about 3 years ago. They told me the bearing was 'curved' and there was no way i could do it myself, and that is why it costs so much to do the job on this car. It isnt a 'plain bearing', like the one I see you using in the video. So...they obviously lied to me! Right?? It isnt 'curved' at all....right? And about how long should a front wheel bearing last, if the car is not abused, has good suspension, no other front end problems, etc...? I am hearing a 'humming noise' again from the front passenger side, at 40mph it starts. But my Aveo , has new tires, the 3rd set!, always balanced and aligned, and completely new struts, new brakes, the pads, easy job, well maintained, AND it only has 45K miles!!! I THINK it is the bearing again. BUT it would only have 15K miles on it!!! Dont they last a hell of a lot longer than that? The only thing i see, that could even be a problem, IF IT IS, is a tiny bit of grease/oil, around the center of the wheel, around the axle nut? On the drivers side, it is totally dry there. Is that a sign of the wheel bearing breaking again....at 15K miles??? Or something else. I really dont want to go to a mech. totally blank, and be taken for a ride again. I dont see the CV joints breaking, or leaking, or anything else wrong. But any things i could try or look at, before I go to a mech.and get screwed again! Thanks for any reply.
I froze the bearing so that the diameter would be slightly smaller than when hot or maybe its just a mental thing anyways haha, I went to the parts store and asked for the bearing for this car they did not seem to be curved, some garage are owned by good people some are rotten, try to find a good one, I prefer to do most of the jobs on my car myself cheers
thank you I appreciate your comment, it is a video that I made before I started including the artist name so I can't remember the name of the song it comes from the TH-cam free library maybe you can find it there by filtering by length I now try to include the song title in my newer videos cheers
Hey buddy, I apologize for such a lame question, but roughly how long did you freeze your bearing for? Presumably overnight. I just ask because I'd hate to damage it somehow. Internet forums haven't been much help... Thanks in advance.
That is not the axle. That is the wheel hub. The axle is what is through the hub with the big bolt. Also when cutting the bearing race off do not cut through and scar the hub. Get close to all the way through and use flat head or chisel and crack with hammer
One of the best videos I've seen. Others should watch this to see how it was done. No long intro. No BS. No shaky camera with one hand and wrench in other. Great job.

You can also put a of vices on the old hub and twist while applying pressure with a screwdriver rather than cutting the wheel bearing off.

Is this the same on 2012 chevy sonic?
I am not sure if its the case
cheers
the procedure for this is almost identical to a chevy sonic. Can you provide a link if you have not already for your slide hammer and press tools?
ATD Tools 8625 Front Wheel Drive Bearing Adapter Kit, OTC 4579 9-Way Slide Hammer Puller Set, I purchased both on amazon

Hola exelente video me podrías decir cómo se llaman las herramientas que usaste para extraer los rodamientos
hola, -ATD Tools 8625 Front Wheel Drive Bearing Adapter Kit

ciao
Did you grease the bearing or was it pre greased
Looked like a sealed bearing
Why did you remove the ball joint ? I got both wheel hub assemblies on Amazon for $45 .. not near the issue having to pull bearrings.. i hope
to get more movement if you can do it without doing this step go for it
cheers

as I mentioned right side was super easy, left side was a b*tch, I had to beat the crap out of it for an hour, haaha
Ohh didnt see that.haha
What is size of the axle nut socket? Thanks
if I remember correctly 1.25 inch

yea it's useful to have on hand, check your part store they might lend or rent you a kit
What torque did you use to tighten the nut?
I just tighten them as tight as I could
221 ft lbs ...google "2009 chevy aveo5 front end torque specs"
@@pepperiv5652 thanks
Hi what greese did you apply to the bearing before installing it? at 2:15
It's just your regular bearing grease, I reckon that any grease will do it's just so that it doesn't seize in place
cheers
what was the part number for the kit you used to pull out the old bearing and press in the new one
this is it www.amazon.com/ATD-Tools-8625-Bearing-Adapter/dp/B00AZABHLQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483057722&sr=8-1&keywords=ATD+Tools+8625
What about the control arm?
Nice video but I am replacing bearing on my Aveo and when I installed the new bearing in I noticed that the hub was still loose and a lot of wiggle room is that the case with yours.
no mine was snug
having mine replaced tomorrow hopefully won't take long at garage.
hope it goes well
cheers
Why should I freeze the bearing?
to help you insert it it reduces the size just a tiny bit
cheers
is an alignment required after this
or should I say suggested
no you should not have to get an alignment done!!
cheers
Even if you disconnect the ball joint? Do the slide hammer could mess the alignement?
Are these bearings side specific? Like a magnetic side for abs? I’m doing them on a spark, very similar
no they were not side specific,
good luck
cheers
ABS ring is on the hub not the bearing

Not sure how you got that hub off by hitting the slide hammer three or four times.... that thing basically fell out..they don't usually do that

aveo bering nambar I want to
Now I know why they want to charge me $500 to do my front wheel bearings.
yea it's a good job
desertdarlene wow I had price quote of 530 bucks for two bearings and lower control arms and I thought that was bad.
Yeah great job 👌
nice
thank you
We'll just be buying the entire wheel assembly and just not dealing with that bearing at all
nice that's not a bad idea

"For educational purposes only, do not replicate" - Ignored
lol
Your hub/flange is worn and should have been replaced along with the bearing.
thanks for the tip

this is a bitch car to work on on any levels!!!
haha it helps us to become better handyman
It is not as easy as this video shows. Getting the bearing out is a b!tch and a half. And other parts wherenot as easy as it seems.
If your gonna do this at home just give up now amd hire someone unless you have all these special tools lol fuck this
defenitely not for everyone ;)
Got two hubs off of eBay, way easier to install than that just replacing the bearings lol
yes sometimes it is worth the money :)
