  • We examine three significant recent cases that made national news involving PD and EMS that had tragic outcomes. The first case happened right by Danny's station in Venice, CA. LAPD struggle with an agitated guy after a traffic collision, who dies hours after being tased multiple times. We discuss what is scene on the extensive body cam coverage of the incident, as well as the different ways this incident was shown on social media. We also discuss the horrifying Tyre Nichols video, and why the EMTs who responded to help were rightfully fired from their jobs. Then we discuss an incident in Illinois where the responding paramedics have been charged with first degree murder. We break down what went wrong in all of theses cases and where the mistakes where made. We also talk about how you can do the right thing as a first responder no matter what is happening before you arrive on scene.

While it is easier to become a police officer than a firefighter it’s not because they’re so underpaid. Their hourly pay is similar to that of their fire department counterparts. Firefighters manage to generate higher wage simply by the copious amounts of hours worked. LAPD is a force of roughly 10k officers while LAFD is comprised of 3300 officers. It far greater of a task to meet the organisational demands of an agency that is three times in size. We’re all all in agreement that law enforcement is not been held in high regard over the past 30 years. Law enforcement has evolved throughout in leaps and bounds throughout my ems career. Simply elevating the salary is a start but can be a monumental task when making the sell to overly tax burdened citizens or financially impoverished cities. Every organisation may want to desperately attempt to hire every available American Ninja Warrior that has served completed multiple military campaigns and holds multiple degrees; the reality is impractical when addressing the pure volume. The community policing effort is effective but takes time. Sadly, there’s no one solution to the problem. Even local fire agencies in my area have had some difficulties maintaining staff and recruiting staff. More and more kids are finding out that the 10 days a month is a bit of an urban legend. They would rather be a nurse, advance in medicine or go into the tech industry where it is far more easier to work from home or have a greater balance while being compensated well. The retiring population is outpacing the working population. A lot of pieces to the puzzle to solve.
