For some reason I teared up watching this. There's something profoundly striking about sending a disk of greetings off into the great unknown that makes you feel like good days are surely, surely to come.
Imagine one of the voyagers crashes on a planet with very basic life. It lays there for ages, with plants growing all around it. Then, eventually, an intelligent life form finds it. They bring it back, and keep it. They evolve and eventually master space flight. Only then do they look at the golden record, and are filled with wonder, they reach earth, only to find that humanity is long gone…
Lately I've read a story that is kinda alike to your view:D. Btw, I have a little belief that our ancient wonders are somewhat of "the footprints" left by the other planets. Perhaps they also sent their voyagers to the planet earth, perhaps their civilizational developments had reached their zenith, then collapsed completely, just like us in the foreseeable future.
humanity will last long if we dont become stupid idiots and nuke eachother, if we kept doing good we could last for millions of years and be able to escape the death of our sun.
This is why we have to take care of ourselves and this planet. It pains me to think that it will only take a few psychotic individuals with nukes to destroy everything.
"Hey Earth, we're running out of milk, think you can get us some?" 1,500 Years later "Uh, yeah! Soy milk or normal?" Another 1,500 years later... I really hope you guys get this reference, if you do please continue it.
This small Voyager with its golden record could potentially outlast our Sun..... and may in the long run be the only evidence that we ever existed. That Thought shoots a chill through my spine and a goose bump so severe that my hair follicles almost poke out. Love you work John, you inspire me to look out into the universe with awe!
40,000 years for it to get to the closest star, the first intelligent life to come in contact with it will be our descendants with better engine technology.
Can you imagine if the opposite happened? We, humans, find a "machine" that was sent, millions and millions of years ago, into the infinite space by a long gone civilization... I just want to live to see it all.
Those voices will forever be roaming around the space, never dying out, unless it comes into someone's hands. Those people are forever immortal. They literally became one with the universe.. Cant imagine of a bigger honor than this..i cant..sorry..
When you think about what happens to the atoms that form the building blocks that form everything that we are, we too are one with the universe, at all times and we'll return to the universe when our bodies decay and our bones turn to dust.
Not exactly. They will lose signal from the Voyager very soon and it will aimlessly wander until it eventually collides with something. I highly doubt this golden record will survive if it comes across an asteroid/star/black hole or whatever else is out there.

I love how so many languages are included, some of which I've never even heard of. It definitely shows how diverse our planet alone is. I can't believe i didn't find this earlier. It's incredible.
@@helios2664 Interesting thought, and it could happen from such short snippets, but on the actual record some parts are much longer and a lot of languages have very distinctive sound differences to English or traditional Western languages. From memory, there's a language in Africa that uses very looud clicks as a way of communicating and something like that would definitely stand out in a record like this. Then again I'm assuming who ever gets this is technologically advanced and could differentaite such ideas. Honestly the idea of them all sounding the same makes me think of how annoying it is when 'alien' races in sci-fi movies only speak one language, we have hudreds, possibly thousands here on Earth, why wouldn't another species on another planet have the same situation?
@@astrokidbeats2178 to be fair it also contains all the data needed to decipher it through math and other exact subjects (those of universal truth) as well as animal sounds and those of civilisation (in the case they might have similar) as well as our accumulated knowledge, and all in analog XD

Could you imagine, at the end of the the human race(or sooner than that), some great super computer at NASA or somewhere has been dead for years, and then some transmission comes through that says: "Hello children from the planet Earth" in a language synthesized from every language on the record. POV: the human race is gone. Planet earth is in ruins. We are no more and all that's left of us is this masterpiece. You're an alien who's just landed on the bones of our home after travelling a thousand lightyears to see us. You play it. You cry. You take it back home with you to show all your kind proof that we were once here. We existed. We lived. We loved. We fought. We reconciled. We never stopped growing. Even into our demise. We never stopped asking questions.
If we get advance enough so we can make movie spaceships then we will exist And it is possible why? Because the planet who is closest to the sun has huge amount of iron so we can build a spaceship if will want for a billion or half a billion people
Imagine: Thousands of years from now, our descendants leave Earth, leaving behind thousands of messages like this that they are heading to Kepler 1632B. Millions of years later, Voyager 1 is found by intelligent life and they come to Earth, a barren wasteland to find us, and instead find our messages and ancient ruins. Then they come to Kepler 1632B with Voyager 1 to meet distant descendants of life which originated on Earth, who realize this is the spacecraft their ancestors launched millions of years ago.

In a way yes, because even though contact will be lost with the Voyager probe in the next 5-10 years, the probe will still exist and it will likely outlive humanity.
I really don’t know why are we all united yet. Maybe it’s because human beings are selfish. Perhaps in the year 3000 when humans evolve enough to avoid killing each other and start helping each other to progress into a type 1 civilization.
I almost cried. I don't know why it has such an effect on me. But seeing humanity do projects like this... Unspeakable. I feel pride, which happens rarley nowadays.

It’s a year since I’ve listened to this masterpiece. The Golden Record’s still venturing across interstellar space, with no sign of landing on a possible extraterrestrial planet that would know of our existence. Now, the whole world’s under a pandemic and hearing this song feels so different now. We’re all locked up in our own homes, and stepping outside to travel to vast places and meet people around... It feels so *alien...* So is the song, but it’s so comforting to listen to.
Come home from a crappy job. Annoyed at people there and at family who can't pick themselves off the floor. Wrapped in that bubble that financial Insecurity and stress puts you in. Then I watch this and realise we are on a speck of dust compared to the vastness of the universe. It's easy to forget that we sent something out there and it's zooming along right now as I slowly realise half the shit in my life really doesn't matter. The problems of one person mean nothing. Family and what we put into community can change the world for the better.

That sounds like a dream!
humanity will last long if we dont become stupid idiots and nuke eachother, if we kept doing good we could last for millions of years and be able to escape the death of our sun.
This is why we have to take care of ourselves and this planet. It pains me to think that it will only take a few psychotic individuals with nukes to destroy everything.

THIS!!I know sometimes we are just too tired to fight our demons and pain but we, humans, we have no limitations, bro. We evolve and evolve day by day and every little contribution you make in your life is a very big one in humanity! Stay away from people that drain your energy and motivation.
