With rising costs of everything, it’s a great idea making your last couple of videos about saving money without compromising flavour. I’ve cut up a whole chicken and now to buy some mince. Thanks Adam, enjoy your day off tomorrow.
Hi Adam! I like your approach of presenting meals on a budget - the right decision these days! 👍 BTW: The valentine's carrot was hilarious! 🥕 😂 Have a nice sunday!
I think if you priotise the seasoning aspect of any budget dish, including this wonderful beef stew it can taste amazing! Today we used what we had left in the fridge. Beef mince that already had onions in it, flavourful stock, mixed frozen vegetables and potatoes. We added all purpose seasoning, mixed dried herbs, some garlic powder, and a bit of brown sugar to balance out the salt. It is honestly incredible! (Also added a tiny bit of MSG as we had it in the cupboard! Game changer) When we go all out we use beef chunks and a lot more vegetables like leeks, celery, mushrooms and also red wine! But the budget ones honestly tastes amazing ❤
Adam, your really doing a great job mate. My family and I have enjoyed so many of your recipes over the years. Been budget cooking for a couple of years now and great to see you putting recipes like this out there. Keep them coming pal.
Well hello cherub, how the devil are you? That looks scrummy and we are all going to be looking for cheaper meals the way energy and food prices are going. Mince and a whole chicken are always an economical buy in my view. You can do so many different things with them and both are equally tasty. I always had to be an economical cook because we never had a lot of money and I always scrubbed my veg and if I wasn’t leaving skins on for the nutrients I’d freeze them and use for stock. I’d save everything from onion skins to cauliflower leaves. I’d box the stock up in smallish tubs and re freeze. It was great for soups, stews, risottos and even some pasta dishes. It was always a surprise as to flavour, as it depended on what kind of veg scraps I’d saved that week. I’m just on my own now and I still make it but don’t use it as often and sometimes have to throw my scraps away. I always feel a bit sad at doing that, like I’m saying goodbye to a flavourful friend 😂😂😂 Thanks for the recipes and your hard work Adam, it’s much appreciated. I love your channel, you cheer me up. Take care and be safe cherub lol xx
Hi Adam nothing wrong with a beef stew on a cold winter day. I love that you can through whatever you want into a stew. Looks good . I don’t have marmite here in the states.
Dumplings, my way: 1 egg, flour until it is like a firm bread dough, add about a teaspoon of cardamom, pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar. Mix well. Shape with two wet teaspoons and drop in to the broth/stew/soup of your choice about 10-15 minutes before ready. They grow quite a bit, so it is a good thing to make them smaller than you think you should.
Brilliant Adam, love hearty, wholesome good old fashioned substantial dishes like that,no frills but so tasty, economical, can freeze left overs, and most importantly you make it so easy to follow, and instill confidence in others to have a bash Thank-you Adam.I made this but put leeks in instead of onion, was delicious..What about a low budget lasagne or chicken curry, or beef goulash?? Great to watch you Adam as you keep it real, some of these TV celebrity chefs have all these fancy ingredients and make stuff that you cannt freeze or is economical.Would love to see you on doing your show something similar to READY STEADY COOK.5 ingredients you would be a hit overnight...

Oh Adam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just live for your videos!!!! Who else can make stew so naughty and entertaining??! Nobody! That's who! 🤣🤣 Hope you and Mogs had a happy Valentine's Day!
Firstly great recipe! Secondly I did your hack of Bernaise sauce but I added dill & served it over salmon. It is very hard to get creme fraiche here in Sydney Australia so I used sour cream - That sauce was stunning!!!
Nice job Adam 👍🏻 I make a similar thing with chicken, I put some sage and onion stuffing mix in when I make the dumplings, yum 😋 nice to see mogs, he’s a cutie 💕
Adam.. enjoying looking back through the recipes of yore ..ie back before I discovered your channel. Your channel has given me so much inspiration..so many practical tips, and very tasty recipes! And thanks for listing the:swap- out ingredients! Because not everyone has a Swede at hand! (Although I do have a next door neighbour who's a Swede! I feel in the interests of full disclosure I had to mention)...
Thanks, Adam! You've put real thought in the recipe. Stews are a fantastic way to use all sorts of vegetables, inexpensive cuts of meat and all sorts of add-ons like peas, cabbage or other "soft" vegetables. Hearty and warming! Would it be conceivable to rank veggies by cost and come up with recipes based on that? For example, (potentially incorrectly) assuming that onions are somewhat inexpensive, would it make sense to cook French Onion Soup?
I've got 2 french onion soup recipes on the channel, but I think yes, I might do a more budget friendly one. it's my all time favourite soup with some crusty bread😋
Nice, cheap, delicious this cheap Beef Stew is my kinda dish minced beef is such great value I love using it for all sorts of things. Marvelous cooking on a budget Adam oh...And...Happy belated Valentines day to you 🥕😁👍!!!
Good one! I do wonder about energy-efficient cooking. I wonder how much energy we lose 'round the sides' by frying or boiling on the hob - as well as cooking with a lid on? My foodi 'feels efficient' because I can pressure cook or slow cook and it does not get hot to touch - can't say that for a traditional hob pressure cooker, though they are cheaper. The foodi is expensive and I don't think I use the air-fryer function enough to justify the extra over a device that can saute/slow cook/pressure cook, like a Crockpot Express Pressure Cooker. I haven't tried one but its less than half the price of a foodi - and sometimes InstantPots are discounted too. If I'm right and giving up the hob is worthwhile - even though electric is generally more than gas - it would be interesting to know where the crossover is after the spend up front on one of the newer generation devices. My mum used to have a small hotel and the only catering piece they took with them when they sold was a free standing combi-microwave. It wasn't cheap, but it would roast, grill, oven and microwave - and whatever you did, the outside never got too warm to touch, which tells me that the energy went into the food, more or less. Can't say that of the 'stylish' steel Baumatic ovens I have. Don't go there.
A good idea on the veg Adam, over here they’re called the odd bunch and cheaper than the perfect looking ones, but still the same. Great looking dish, will save this for our winter, thank you!
Lovely stuff, and really impressed with the production on this one- showing the substitutions like that is an excellent idea! If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favour and buy a bottle of Henderson's relish when your Worcestershire sauce runs out. It's a total game changer 😁

To show you how cheap we are, I make my own wine from bottled grape juice from Lidl or Aldi. It cost me roughly 40P to make a bottle of wine. Alcohol content is about 15%. Linda uses it in stew all the time. We started making stock from roasted chicken carcass and veg peelings years ago, its the best stock in the world and its made from garbage. Cheers mate
