    Thanks for watching everyone! I had to cut the hunt short as my cold was still pretty bad - I will definitely need to go back and check this spot out again!
    I've published a few rockhounding videos recently if you want to check those out on my rockhound channel: th-cam.com/channels/yIYDaFNKo2UHkJg7mlwRQQ.html
    There's even more content on my Patreon channel: patreon.com/mamlambo - this allows me to spend more time making the videos 😁

      Canterbury is beautiful. I'm envious. Mountain scenery is my favorite especially when there's a creek running. Thanks for sharing.

    That’s a beautiful area. I miss the sound of water running over rocks. The creeks and streams I grew up around have mostly dried up after decades of drought.

      @@theegwana2103 I've rafted & kayaked it down river from the Napier/ Taupo highway to the Te Hoe river. You'll see round rocks sticking out of cliff faces that are about 300 / 400mm round, I'm guessing that those are fossils. I've also done a fly in to the head waters & rafted down hunting & fishing. Awesome river.

    Do the concretions occur around the remains because of moisture or chemicals from the animal, or is it just random, and some have fossils? Some of the crab fossils from the beaches seemed like they were the center of a roughly spherical concretion, encasing them rather evenly, as if formed around them, or the surrounding material got harder where they were, and the rest wore away.

    • @MamlamboFossils
      @MamlamboFossils  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made a video showing one theory of how it is formed: th-cam.com/video/MazOeBDnfHc/w-d-xo.html
      It usually follows the rough shape of the animal

    • @UserRandJ
      @UserRandJ ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen concretions being formed on beaches- they are clumps of material that roll up and down the beach inclines in the tide, and shaped by that rolling motion, then once they are out of the ocean they harden. I picked up a number of nice ones in Victoria Australia, still wet. And since I picked them up they have now hardened into rock. I picked up conglomerations, that were still wet- I can send pics of mine that are comprised of only fossil shells in clay- were wet and have since hardened. I've picked up ones with pebbles and clay also, that were wet. I took my wife to the same beach, near Angelsea Victoria- we ride our mountain bikes from Angelsea to Red Rock- it is not openned to public because of the massive unstable cliffs, and also the tide traps people. But we rode bikes on low tide. I was dissapointed not to find a concretion or conglomeration for most of that trip- as I had taken her there to show them to her in the wave shallows- but just as we were making our way back- right when I'd given up I saw a beautiful medium sized one- and was excited to show her how they form- it is a pebbles in clay one- was wet, she saw it wet - would snap in half, and has since hardened into a rock.
      I'll send a pic of that one if needed.
      Your concretion fossils are animals that were buried in a flood/ tsunami- as seen by the megasequence layers in any coast line- and many debris that were caught in mud began to roll back and forth in the shoreline with the tidal movements. I could video it happening today if you like, and send it. I do find it amazing to see whole beaches covered in such stones. I took my wife to a beach covered in these stones- late last year, and she found a peace of blood jasper stone that is huge/ big as her fist, it's dark green with red speckles. But no fossils there- or very few. Though you might find them better than me. Other beaches are full of them. I found a giant fossil fish over one meter long- near Lorne. And on the very next rock my wife found a foot print of a large carnivorous creature- like a massive dog thing, with huge pads and claws. It had stepped on the clay that has since become rock. I can send you those pics.
      I have found beaches here covered in rocks that are still wet- but look exactly like the rock. I could video boulders for you- that you can poke a stick into.
      There was a recent event that put sediment all over the globe, and it's still curing. Hope you can take a look at the rock and see it was all wet mud at the same time. A single event.
      Jake
