- Imagine watching the breathtaking sceneries of Tsavo National park, while nibbling on sweet bites while sipping expensive sparkling wines and assorted whiskies and cognacs? Well this is the experience that awaits premium class customers using the yet to be lunched Madaraka Express train. The Kenya railway says the new service targets business travelers plying the Nairobi-Mombasa routes. Our reporter Wairimu Njenga has the details of how the new service is likely to define luxury travel in the country and beyond.

Awesome! Well done, Kenya railways.
HELP KENYA AIRWAYS WITH THE SAME UPGRADED SEATS FOR THEIR BUSINESS CLASS. THE TRAINS SHOULD ALSO HAVE CABINS FOR FAMILIES LIKE THE OLD BRITISH ONES. TANZANIA AND SENEGAL HAVE BETTER ELECTRIC TRAINS BY THE WAY!
😂 Kabisaaa...
The service should be on the MGR Safari Trains which take longer hours of travelling time so that you can enjoy the luxury to the fullest before the arrival. 12k for only 5hr luxury journey is quite exorbitant.
It's should be slower man. The route is scenic, why would they be rushed?
Has this been launched yet? How do you book it? It is not on their website
This is a good step but please upgrade the terminus stations... They are in a very sorry dilapidated state.
Five hours is a long time. I wish the Kenyan government was patient and listening. The country could have built a modern two track electric railway but Uhuruto na kujipiga kifua, they couldn't listen
Former preso alikula pesa ya electric railways na kutuekea standard gauge railway
@@mainakihurusia6380 Depending on the financial resources and budget at the time, you cannot deny your previous choice due to insufficient financial resources just because you now have more advanced technological capabilities and sufficient budget. Do you know how much it cost to build an electrified railway at that time?
Ten years ago, you used a Nokia that could be used as a hammer. Now that you have a smartphone, would you criticize you from ten years ago?
When constructing SGR, many engineering materials need to be imported. Later, with the support of technology transfer in China, lower cost materials were found locally.
Will it be faster than flight time?
Fly all the way!
On budget flight this is premium. You can fly in chatted flight Choppers. This for posh.. There is Chania bus 1200 sgr economy 15000
@@pinchesmbuche4354 Exactree! Why SGR when you can "Fly all the way!"
They is a difference between budget flight and premium people who use this can own a plane. Its like cruise ship and flying
@pinchesmbuche4354 Please, enroll in the nearest school near you, even if it is gumbaru.
@@nanatiti2006 I repeat the class of this people don't fancy planes luxurious trains exist the most famous is in southafrica to Dar is more expensive than flights takes weeks to reach. That one you don't need school.
I remeber the old train the sleepery family couch which is better.
we are using analog diesel locomotives while Tz is on electric fast trains. Embarrassing
Other countries are going super electric trains, there goes kenya with a 5 hour train on a 450km distance,
Mnateseka sana😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂let Tanzania 🇹🇿 be ,we go slow but sure

Just watched the Tz electric train and enyewe Kenya tulichezewa rough na politicians.
They could have prioritized speed over luxurious seats..i d rather sit on bench sit on a 250klmph train
Wakenya nunueni train zinazotumia umeme kama tanzania
Si OTA hizi za Tanzania ni madeni Tu, wewe shoga unatuabiaa nini.

How is it competitive compared to Jambo Jet? No way.
Those are budget flight...
Will it be fast?
Rail truck design top speed is 120KM/H.
Ask someone who pay cruise ship a journey that can last three months. And own private jet.Premium is people of class there are also budget flights and Chania buses for savings.
Tell them to change the seats hapo economy coaches. Very uncomfortable seats... hard and stiff like sedimentary rocks
waste of money hii ni kuongeza deni bure....if you can afford hii ticket just fly
USE STARLINK
Tanzanian is better 😂😂 Tanzania wamekam na zao hawa wazeee apa washaingia njeve😂 bure kabisa we need young visionary guyz in those sits

Na bado mtu alipe hii pesa yote na anuswe na mbwa😂
Hii ni upumbavu TZ have electric train, Kenya sisi hatujielewi
Keep whinnig and crying 😅😅
We need electric trains
I'd rather fly
On a budget flight. People who use cruise ship London to Newyork for three months can own a private jet and fly in hours
all over the world, trains are used for mass transport, but in Kenya its for the rich few
We have a problem with the order of priorities. Imagine comparing the SGR to Rovos Rail. The SGR is supposed to be a mass transit system. People willing to pay 12000 for a train ticket are the last people to be concerned about time. If they were they would be in a plane. Instead of giving them an SGR coach why not give them a train and then go all out on luxury with dining, sleeper coaches and all the bells and whistles. Finally have the locomotive move at reduced speed to let them enjoy all these goodies but dont put these luxury coaches on with the other coaches on the same train. Put these coaches on their own locomotive and lets see how profitable they are.
@@njengakimachia1288 true
This should be in the old Metre Gauge Railway line so that one can enjoy the luxury for longer hours of travelling like that Rovos train of South Africa or the old Meter Gauge Train which was travelling between Nairobi and Mombasa before the SGR train was launched. 12k for only 5hrs journey is a no to me. It's quite exorbitant.
@@gideonmwanjila8616 exactly i fully agree. The metre gauge line between mombasa and Nairobi is largely unused. Repair it and put this train on that line. You don't even have to make it go faster. Just make that train a slow moving five star luxury hotel tourist trap. Then charge 12000 for that ride.
@@njengakimachia1288 I agree that trains need to be mass transit systems, but then you need to look at the funding model. Take Indian Railways for example, it is a true mass transit system where a 320 km journey can cost as low as $1 and as high as $30 depending on which class coach you are traveling in (General Class to 1st AC Sleeper Class).
But how is this funded? Indian Railways earnings are around $30 Billion per year. Out of this, $23 Billion comes from transporting 1 Trillion-ton-km of freight on freight trains and only around $7 Billion comes from transporting around 1 Trillion-passenger-km on passenger trains. And even this $30 Billion revenue barely covers the cost of paying salaries and maintaining equipment of the Indian Railways. Indian Railways also spends around $36 Billion every year on upgrading the Indian Railways (making new train coaches, locomotives, new tracks, electrification and signalling upgrades, redevelopment of old rail stations and rail yards, major upgrades to factories and workshops, etc). The rest of the $66 Billion Indian Railway annual budget comes from taxes collected by the Government of India.
So if you guys want to develop Kenyan Railway as a mass transit option, instead of just relying on these ultra expensive passenger trains, start investing in freight transport over rail. And also prepare for your taxes to cover all the costs of major upgrades on your railways. Passenger tickets can only cover a tiny slice of the operating expenses of a Railway.
Does this premium class arrive before the other wagons? 😂
No you arrive drunk and full stomach
It's the same case in planes the do you will fly you will understand l use to think the same
A train for the rich...12k
Sgr economy 1500 Chania bus 1200 chattered flight 500k budget flight 8k.
you want electricity train.

Hahahahahaaaaaaa😂😂😂😂😂😂 wajinga ndio waliwao...
Kumbe wakenya wajinga tuu ni upuuzi gani huu serikali wanawafumba machoo😂😂😂😂
12, k ? Hahaha
For 12000/-, you would rather take a flight 1 hour flight
@seasurfer9173 No. This is way better than a flight business class (which is way more expensive). Not everyone is in a hurry. Some want to enjoy the scenic views while on their holiday.
If does not meet your preference, don't complain and say " I'd rather or this is better than" ... Nobody is asking for your opinion on how to spend your money. Just stick to the class or transport mode you can afford and let others do what pleases them 😂
@@kimani_nbo cry some more😂
I'll still take the flight!
@@seasurfer9173 Good for you 😂
@@saimzmuiruridraw the venn diagram for the people who find this better than a flight and the people who are willing to spend this sum of money. After that show how sustainable this will be. A premium economy coach would have made more sense than this. Even upgraded first class would have been a bettter choice.
