Lunar New Year’s Day is definitely much bigger than Jan 1st.
Koreans still celebrate Jan 1st differently than Americans
They get up early and go to the specific places to see the first sunrise and make resolutions or some Christians go to the church or spend time with their family
Americans celebrate New Year’s Day with their friends, have a party, drinking and counting New Year and stay all New Year’s Eve night
That kind of party is what Koreans do on Christmas
So on New Years Day Koreans do exactly what Americans do on Christmas and on Christmas, Koreans do exactly what Americans do on Year’s Day

One thing I have always done on New Years is to jump into the new year. The way me and my friends/family usually do it, is by standing on a chair, couch, or the like, and when the clock rings the first time, you jump down. In that way it's the new year when you land

My family does this too! This year was our first year together in 3 years but when we're apart we'll skype and jump together when it turns 0000 in one of the countries we're in. It's neat to know others do this too!

Watching this video and laughing with you guys is a great start to 2020. Oh man, that chicken dish looks SOOO good. Have Kyuho do another cooking video with it! I haven't seen one of those in a while and I've been constantly craving Korean food (especially soups) in this cold weather. For New Years, I was supposed to go out but that didn't happen and I went to bed early haha (Kyuho was me yawning at like 9 pm lol). I ended up hanging out with the same friends last night and we had a great time. I saw other friends on New Years day and it was just very chill and we played games and had fun! New year is quite a big deal in Scotland. In the past, there was a period of around 300 years or so where Christmas celebrations were heavily restricted, so people would go all out at new year instead and it seems to have stayed that way. We have a lot of traditions at this time of year and there’s always a few days worth of events, like fire festivals and ceilidhs, leading up to street parties on NYE. I used to go to out with friends but I like to stay home with family now and watch the fireworks on tv like you guys. Less hassle and much warmer!

This new year my family & I celebrated with our taiwanese friends and had many Taiwanese dishes like hotpot , seafood , and many more ! It was a fun time eating great food & enjoy hanging out with friends and family !

Looks like you had a fun new year! Traditionally in Bulgaria, NY is a family holiday so my parents and I usually spend it preparing delicious food, and since they live in the US we wait for the ball drop at midnight. This year I decided to stay in Japan though, so I watched the ringing of the bell on tv (also made food and watched movies with a friend who was also staying over the holidays)
We are from seattle. We are grandparents. So we usually stay home on new years, have a fire, have champagne, and sometimes not even staying awake till midnight. We never cared much for parties with lots of drinking. Sometimes i would make homemade eggnog with dark rum, cream, nutmeg, eggs. Yum

Our tradition for NYE/NY is we eat any kind of long noodles for long life and we need to have at least 12 circular fruits on the table to ring in New Year for prosperity. Then sticky rice cakes/desserts for everyone to stay together or for Unity. And some other food but I dont really know what its for hahaha 🤪

My family used to throw house parties on NYE up until about 2010, and then every year since then, it's just been tradition to stay inside all cosy and warm, listen to music and drink together. I am from England, so I think it's too cold to be going out and a bit hectic to hit the city around Christmas/New Year.
