Hope and Frederick's bond is so deep. The feels are strong. So happy that he came back and they're together again. I almost cried when seeing the two of them together. Hope the two of them remain together for a long time. You're an amazing team!🥺😭

I was crying with Hope, she was so distraught about leaving Frederick at SASH. I'm so glad the surgery was successful and he healed and was able to walk again. Dr. Andrew worked his magic for Frederick. 🙂❤️

The hugs I wish someone had gently stopped her - that's pretty stressful for a dog. But she was so loving.

I love how the vet handled suggesting the drawing to the little girl as a piece of her with the doggie. She is such a sweet person. I like her and how she handled the little girls heartbreak. Please keep up you amazing compassion.

I was so impressed with how the vet handled that situation. She gave the little girl something she could do to help. Gives her an outlet to express everything she’s feeling while also helping her feel a little less powerless with the situation ❤

As a a mom of a dachshund this is one of my biggest fears. The little girl just broke my heart and I feel so deeply for her! I hope little Freddy has a good and healthy life!

That has to be one of the saddest things to have to deal with not only a poor little pet, but a child that doesn't understand and really loves their animal

As a furbaby mommie, cost is no object.
That is why I have credit cards!
I worked emergency and it was common this breed had back issues. Cost is $10,000 at the time about 10 years ago. The results are 50/50 they will walk again.
@@LCx829 oh my. Thanks for the info! Wow. Is the high price due to medical equipment? Or the “labor” part performed by the surgeon? Or a mix of both? It’s sad AND frustrating that pet healthcare is sometimes as much as human care. Pets don’t work and bring in an income so they shouldn’t be charges as much. Lol. But seriously, why are vet prices so high? (And I can’t imagine that costs have gone down with time?)

But, when I was out of work, and parents couldn’t help, I almost lost my 6 month puppy bc the vet wanted $200 down before they would even do a life saving surgery.) She had apparently ingested a small palm nut while my former friend was babysitting my dogs while I was visiting my parents…. My parents couldn’t help so I had to beg a neighbor and my Grandmother to help. I had even BEGGED the vet to save her life even if they kept her bc I couldn’t pay…. I was able to put the money down and they DID save her life through exploratory surgery of her stomach and intestines. LaiLa, that puppy, is now 13 and very happy and healthy. BUT, I literally had to pray for and have that financial miracle to do it. My question is, what kind of human who’s career is saving and bettering the lives of animals, could let a 6-month-old puppy DIE just because of money?! I know they can’t save every animal, every time, and they can’t operate for free. But, come on! Something needs to change! Even animal “care credit” doesn’t help enough bc it depends upon the owner’s credit. I appreciate and respect all the veterinarians. And a big thank you to the ones who don’t allow money to dictate their decisions. But, why couldn’t emergency vet hospitals start a charity fund, like scholarships, that could be used for *life saving* emergency care for those cases where the owner can’t pay up front, or at all? Maybe some places have that. That gives me an idea… maybe I could start something like that at my own vet hospital… (Although she probably wouldn’t let an animal die just because of lack of owners’ funds.) Prayers for all of you, and your beloved animal babies! And mine too! lol 😘❤️🙏🏼✝️🐈🦮🦜🕊🐓🐇🦙🐐🐖🐑

Daschunds like Corgis need extra care since they have weak legs unlike other breed of dogs as their small legs have to support their whole body weight. Relieved to see that this pup could walk on four legs again. Thank you. 🙏
Try telling the Dachshund it's weak and needs to take a break.
Same thing happened to my little Doris so long ago. She made a full recovery, but watching this was living it over again. What a time it was. Wrenching.
Frederick will need time to rebuild the strength in his back legs... they may never be completely healed, but that he can walk now at all, is a miracle... assisted by these wonderful vets!
The little girl's love for Frederick brought tears to my eyes especially when she hugged him and cried seeing him paralysed. The team of vets has done a remarkable job and made Frederick walk again. There could be no one happier than the little girl.

This happened to one of my babies a pitbull I have had for 8 years she pulled a disk and was weeks of lifting and walking her using a towel to walk her some and feed by hand but thankfully she's all better know breaks my heart- what is interesting is a dogs spinal nerves regenerate so it does take time

I don't know if I have ever wanted a happy ending so much as I did for Freddie and Hope.
When I started watching this, and I saw Hope crying that hard, it set it my mind that he better not die, and then when I saw he made it I was like, it’s Hopes love that kept Fred strong
This story started out so extremely sad and very hard for a 5 year old an best friend to Fred that he needed to stay in hospital and watch her cry each goodbye she had to do broke my heart 💔 then to see him walking Andrew u are just incredible at ur work Lisa u are as well this was extremely beautiful special story to watch so to all the team at Bondi vet well done for make a little girls dream come true to get her best friend back home

I love how sweet and accommodating the staff were to Hope. More 5 year olds need the help that these adults provided her while she was going through such a hard experience. The world is so big and so hard and so scary but she was able to find emotional safety despite the times.

Thank you for giving such great advice time after time. My daughter’s daschund had a slipped disc and he received surgery. If not for the surgery her precious boy would have had no quality of life.

Watching this I feel SO fortunate that I've had Daxies all my life, and never had to deal with spinal issues. My oldest Lisa is 15 and looks just like poor Frederick.
When my cat Freddy was diagnosed with cancer I was told by the vet to nurse him until he was ready for surgery. So I took some days off at work and told my employer the reason why. That was a mistake. I was fired. Neither my fellow workers nor my employer showed any compassion or empathy. That was 10 years ago. It seems, I hope, that the attitude of the Australians about how important pets are for people have change during the last 10 years. But still -today- I believe not to tell your employer the truth if you take some time off work “only to try to save your pet”.
Operations like this in South Africa is almost unaffordable. I had to fix my Beagle Bella's neck two and a half years ago and it almost bankrupt me, but I just couldn't euthanise her after just losing my father. She made a 100% recovery. I am left paranoid. Over protective and petrified when she plays with the other dogs. The little girl just broke my heart. So much love. An animal heart to be handled with great care. Well done to the vets.
My heart was broken for that beautiful little girl, it was so sad to see her so upset she's absolutely adorable her love for her dear dog is exactly how I would feel bless her.

Yeah to vet/staff & family! I was begging for a dog when I was little @ 6yrs old on Christmas day my parents brought home a miniature dachshund we spent 14yrs growing up together... Young Hope loves her little buddy I hope they have many, many, many years together ❤️

My wife and stepson brought 3 dogs into my life when we got married. One is Marley, a 17 year old Mini Dachshund. At one point, Marley became paralyzed just like this. He was about 6 years old and in great health otherwise. He recovered completely and is now a very spry 17 year old grumpy old man with a lot of years still ahead of him. Love like this little girl has for her mate will go a long way to recovery.

Child. Children leap to "he/she is going to die". That's what the little girl is scared to death herself is going to happen. At least if it were me, I was like that and I think that it's common. So let the child know that the dog shouldn't die , he just needs surgery to help him hopefully walk again. That's what you tell a child. Children think in extremes and don't understand shades of gray. Two years old seems awefully young for so much trauma. I'm glad that he got help.

This happened to my dog, in those days my children were small and we had no money for an operation, after a lot of love from the kids the dog snapped back and lived for 13 yrs. or more.. our dog was just fine, running side by side with the kids!😁
It was probably inflammation of a disc it happened to my toy poodle once, he was walking like bambi on ice to not moving his back legs the next day. He had to have prednisone shots and cage rest, till he got better

I’m so glad he is able to walk. They didn’t mention how much the surgery costed.such a complex surgery would have costed many many thousands of dollars here in the States. Vet clinics are more of a money making business in the US.

My sausage dog experienced the same thing 3 times many years ago and for that reason I would never have another one. They are lovely but a it's heartbreaking to go through.

Poor little fella. I was crying right along with this Hope. I have a rescue dachshund mix. The drawing was an awesome idea Dr. Lisa! Dr. Patrick is a rock star.
I saw a similar case when i shadowed a vet surgeon. Lily was a dachshund and had suffered a spinal injury, which she had recovered from through physio. But after doing a CT scan, the vet noticed she had a herniated disk. I watched them drill into her spine to removed the disk that was putting pressure on her spinal cord and she was walking fine after the surgery. But suddenly the next day she couldn’t walk. Turns out, when he reopened her up, we noticed her blood was clotting extensively and the clots were pushing up against her spinal cord. He cauterized the blood vessels and sewed her back up but my hours were done at the hospital and I never got to see if she recovered fully. I hope she’s living her best life now.
