Pete sure has quite an array of sonic gems in his guitar collection..I even luv his wolfgang in that gorgeous amber color..his new studio ain't too shabby as well.
He deserves it, talented, hardworking, and an alright kinda dude..

One of the best overdrives I've heard. You got pretty close to some Eric Johnson-ish tones during the intro, man... Thanks for doing these!

I like so much your blues feel in your playing ( not only for the reference to S.R.v. and Janis Joplin's music in this video ;) ). So professional in all your demo. So serious and meticulous when create your sound both in homestudio and in great live gigs. One of my favourite. Greetings from Italy, have a good time! ;)

I have an Ethos Overdrive preamp that's very similar. Don't use it much (actually it's being loaned out). That one was about $500 at the time. It sounds and plays excellent.
I've since bought and built several Dumble clone amps, both for myself and other people. I currently have a 50W HRM (6L6) head, a 20W Lunchbox that's essentially a non HRM high plate "Skyline" (and actually does sound very similar to the larger). In the past I had a 50W non-HRM and S&M (Ceriatone circuit that's essentially a slightly brighter non-HRM), and built a Bluesmaster and HRM with EL34'S and the Plexi output transformer.
I've played through Carol Ann, Two-Rock and Fuchs. ALL great amps, but for direct-clones, I find the Ceriatone to be the most faithful, as well as the lowest priced while having a superb build and component quality. I have been able to play through a couple actual ODS', though the one I played most recently was over a decade ago.
I have enough experience to give my opinion and be reasonably confident in it. If you REALLY want to play through a Dumble (or as close as you can), I'd hold off sending $500-1000 on a pedal. With the Ceriatone clones, you can get a fully built 20W for a little over $700, and a 50W for around $1600 ( not sure off the top of my head what the 100W are, I'd imagine it's a few hundred more, but unless you're regularly playing in an environment that allows you to play a 100W with the Master volume at least set to 4-4.5, I'd stick to the 50W for reasons I'll get to). The amplifiers you get at those prices are hand built, PTP.
As good as they are, being clones means they don't have the highest resale value, which if you're selling isn't great, but if you're buying it's awesome because it means they're even more attainable.
I've done A/B comparison between the Ethos and the amps, and the Ethos does a great job at allowing you to get that D-style smooth, expressive amp tone. Though being solid state, the overdrive it produces actually buries many tube amps. But the price of it, and these, to me, is just too much to spend on a pedal if you want to play a Dumble when the clones are so close in price.
If you're doing a lot of recording, or want to run a stereo amp setup live, without having to actually lug 2 amps around, it's also great. I was running a 3 amp setup for a while (ODS, Plexi and either a JCM 800 or Silver Jubilee), then wanted to do a 2X ODS stereo setup. I use a Freyett Power Station 2 as an attentuater/FX loop and 50W power amp. I'd run the 50W into the attentuater and the 20W into the power amp (with my Ethos was being used by a friend). Upon getting it back, I started to use that with the 50W and setting them up as a Wet/Dry amps.
At that point however, it was more a case of trying to find things to do with it to warrant not selling it.
To end this long rambling post: if it's a matter of space, ease of access for recording, or you're using preamps and SIMs into a house soundboard using the PA for volume, these D-style preamp pedals are great. If you want to have a Dumble to play as your amp, the clones are SO good these days and priced at a point where spending $600-1000 for a pedal doesn't make much sense.
*Regarding the 50vs100W. As everyone who plays tube amps know, to get the best tone from an amp, the tone it was designed to produce, you have to have v master volume at the sweet spot or higher. In my experience, on the D-style amps, this sweet spot is usually considerably louder that most other amps, including Marshalls. Some players prefer to buy larger amps than they need thinking that if they ever need more power, they have it available. I'd suggest NOT going that route with Dumble type amps. What's the purpose in buying an amp renowned for it's tone and touch sensitivity of you're not able to actually access it?

I'm with you Pete, I'm not sure what a "Dumble" sound is, and the players that so famously play or played Dumble amps are SO good you tend to apply the " It's all in the fingers" tag. Wasn't sure if i would like this pedal... But I do, It's superb! Your demos are always SUPERB man. And what year is your Stratocaster? Looks 64/65 ish?

Just some encouragement your way, Mr. Thorn, I really connect well with your demos. You take the time and consideration to actually talk about your gear and what you are doing with it. It makes more sense that way and it feels more personal. You demo the gear and not your music. It's humble and wonderful. Thank you for remember what it's like to be the little guy.
Hopefully, some day I'll have the opportunity to sit down and have a cup of coffee with you and talk gear. Be well and God bless you!

Great demo Pete. Thanks. Love your playing too! Re: the Dumble thing, best way IMHO to learn is to listen to the pros who use them and you'll get it. Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, Lowell George for starters. Robben is probably the best of these 3. There are lots of great examples, but try out his "Talk to your daughter" or
"Ain't Got Nothing But the Blues" solos. Of course, as we all know, the real tone is in your hands. I bet after you listen to Robben and try this pedal again and try to emulate Robben, you'll be able to given how well you play. But it's actually kinda cool to hear you use it as you say, an overdrive, as opposed to trying to sound like you're coming out of a Dumble amp. There some other demos where the player is trying to sound like a Dumble so with your demo you get to hear the box as is and then you can apparently play it to sound Dumbly :D

Now I've noticed that you have something that looks like a capo clipped on the headstock. Is it a capo or something to add more mass to the headstock for more sustain? FYI I had sold the first one. Should’ve just kept it. Didn’t buy two at the sage time. They’re a lot of money. I just wish he’d update his labels. They’re made from 1970’s label makers. But whatever. OperationEndGame I always become very suspicious when pedal makers add the name Dumble and cover there product in snake skin or use the term limited edition.. LOL.. 9 times out of 10 its usually nothing more than a sales gimmick..Tone freaks always fall all over themselves whenever Alexander.Dumble"s name is mentioned. The most expensive gear in the world wont make you play any better, hard work and god given talent always separates the real guitarist from those "Gear" posers

Some people are willing to spend that kinda money to get the tone this pedal offers. Don’t know why people are acting like that makes them any worse of a guitar player than someone who wouldn’t spend as much on a pedal

Anything connected to the DUMBLE AMP will get the tone sniffers falling all over themselves to get one! Shins Dumble pedals on Ebay $599- $999...

Damn Pete you could make any pedal sound awesome, your such a great guitarist, but I still think the Dumdloid Hype is just that Hype. Yes Shin Suzuki is a Dumble repair tech and knows Dumble Amps inside and out but the price is still way out of line.I truly believe the Shin Dumbloid pedals should be priced closer too $299...

PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S It just might be that last magical ingredient to them finding a decent tone.....but i doubt it.
If your that desperate for something that is going to magically make you sound awesome, then maybe its worth it, guess it depends on your wealth really, but I can say with great certainty, that you can get the same tones from a hundred different pedals, and all of them cost under 200.00. The BOSS DS1or OD-1 sounds as good as this thing, those are 50.00 dollars used, they are near indestructible so no fear of buying used.
Boutique pedals are made for 'tone tools', you know the guy that buys bumblebee caps for 250.00 a piece cause they 'came right out of a '57'. Those are the people these pedals are made for. The maker will build maybe 200-300 around the world that's a shit load of money for very little outlay or even labor.
At that point it is no longer about the sound, its about the players ego. Period. Funny thing is most of these guys soiund like shit to start with, and still sound like shit after they spend 30,000 for their Dumble, good gear dont make up for bad hands. Never had never will.
Id be willing to bet, that Pete didn't drop 2000.00, or even 1000.00 for two pedals, of which he already has ten or twenty that do every bit as good a job. Unless he is a lot more wealthy than he appears, which he may well, but Im guessing he still thinks about how he spends his hard earned cash. More likely event is that Shin sent them to Pete to review and make sound awesome, because he knows 100 'tonetools' that see this will then want, no they will HAVE to buy one. they cannot help themselves, and oh well.
Pete probably has to send the pedals on to another reviewer, thats the way it usually goes, you don't generally get too keep reviewable goods unless they are very inexpensive, like picks or strings, pedals, amps, guitars and such, these get sent on to the next 'reviewer' in line, and its a long line trust me.

Graiskye Agreed, my old 1979 Ibanez TS-808 pedal sounds much better than 99% of all the pedals made today. Damn just give me that vintage Marshall Plexi overdriven breakup and I'm as pleased as a pig in shit..

Demo is great. Sound is ok. There is nothing this pedal does that a 240$ metalpedals xxx hardcore can't do. Anything more than 300 for that pedal is a waste of money.
