For instance, Black activist Rosa Parks organized a successful strike against buses until Black people no longer had to sit in the back of the bus, and white allies helped drive Black people (who were no longer taking buses) to work, the food store, etc. So they tried to do it while it was still dark outside, while their husband was at work, etc. If white racists found out a white 'traitor' was helping a person of color in some way, death threats, vandalism, violence, and even murder could follow. It was a big deal that Elvis was introducing Black music and Black culture to the white community in order to try to get more white people to care about Civil Rights.
