I love this film. The hate was... depressingly predictable, but I honestly found it just a joy to watch
Agreed 💯
How? I genuinely felt like nothing at all happened in it, all the criticisms people had about Ant-Man QM were magnified in this. For example having Bill Murray's character 'Crylon' (*I forget his proper name) who was in one comic ever and a had a minimal role in it, just felt weird and pointless. And in this movie Prince Yan was also in one comic ever, where Captain Marvel saved him from his wife. It just felt pointless
I'm not saying it was bad, just beyond weak for it's placement being right after Secret Invasion. Then to not have any story continuity beyond "Nick was on earth for a bit and now he's back in space"
@@DanHosler the points that you made would only be relevant to those with comic book knowledge. most people watching this film would not know those things. maybe sometimes these films are more enjoyable if you haven't read the comics
@@DanHoslercarol had character development, kamala had character development, monica had power development, the monica and carol storyline was finished, i could go on but ive already disproven your idea that nothing happened in it.
@@wizallah2000 Don't read the comics?
We're talking about a Marvel movie. I don't understand how you sit down for a comic movie and expect people to not come in with expectations from their own stories.
I didn't even mention power swapping the writers do for the films, for example Kamala's entire backstory and powers. They did The Clandestine horribly in the Mrs Marvel series, widdled them down to thugs who stole enchanted tools.
One little add-on to the post-credits scene is that Hank referred to Maria as Binary, which is the code name Carol used when she was teaming with the X-Men in the 80s. Her suit was also inspired by Carol's Binary costume.
She also is wearing both quantum bands
I missed both those details cause I was freaking out! Thanks for informing me/us
I recognized the costume opening night, but I didn't hear Beast say the name or notice the quantum bands until my second time seeing it in the theater.
Maria Rambo has now been shown to have become Captain Marvel/Binary in as many universes as Carol Danvers (two each, so far).
@@BxSxCx we saw Carol as Captain Marvel in at least 3 episodes of What If, but I like that Maria has been the one to get powers in a couple others. Makes sense with them using a race to decide who would fly with Wendy/Mar-vell that day.
"Let the flerkin eat you" is THE funniest scene in the entire MCU.
Watch the "making of" material. They used a mix of real and CGI kittens, and the cast LOVED having all the kittens around.
Your reaction to the Monica-Maria-Hank end credits scene was everything I could have hoped for.
As soon as I saw this reaction was happening, I thought "jay is going to lose his mind at the singing planet" and it did not disappoint.
I like the fact that the villain's motivation doesn't become clear until later in the movie, since it puts us as the audience in the shoes of Monica and Kamala, where we don't really understand the full picture until Carol starts to open up and explain. But that's probably just personal preference.
We need the reveal to be late, because admitting to it is a huge part of Carol's character development
43:50 Talos in Secret Invasion says, after Fury asks how many skrulls are on earth, that he put out a call to every skrull scattered in space that wasn't in emperor Dr'oge's colony. The skrull colony we see here is emperor Dr'oge. Secret Invasion confirmed that they are kind of the outliers.
I was going to post the same thing, so thank you for saving me a bit of effort :-)
Exactly. The movie isn't wrong. Dr'oge's Skrulls found a little space for theirs, but it still cannot accommodate the whole Skrull nation. And then they still lose it anyway.
That colony was big enough for everyone, gravik's motivation had no sense
@jorgecabezas1966 they had zero contact with them and also that colony was being subjugated by the kree empire. None of the skrulls on earth would want to be a part of it, it would be too dangerous
@@execuwutie_YT
The kree empire was destroyed, dar vhen eas rhe one who was subjugated them

I mean did they count them. I need to know alll those little kitties got back on the ship. …. Well maybe just one lol
My first thought was, "So we're introducing a destructive, invasive species to Earth and no one sees a problem here?"
Honestly I assumed they rounded them up offscreen. Now I'm wondering. Eep!
Oh man I would LOVE to see Daredevil passing just a bunch of cats in New York like maybe in an alleyway. Just a nice idea that they are now free @@ambrabridges2161
What Adam said about revealing the antagonist's motives before the Marvel logo is actually genius. For me it would've done a lot for this movie if they went this way
Antagonist* just saying
They probably scrapped it since it was already done on a lot of Marvel movies like Thor L&T
I so agree with it too, they could add a little more development for the antagonist.
I agree. Do Carol's attack on the Supreme Intelligence all from Dar-Benn's POV, even shoot it like Captain Marvel is this terrifying unstoppable Annihilator. Maybe even start with the flashback to her telling Yon Rogg that's what she was going to do. Later, you could have it from Carol's perspective, show the guilt she feels about it.
Even as is, it was the most fun I'd had at a Marvel film in ages.
@@johnobrien7562 Exaaaactly, I was thinking something like Bruce Wayne's POV in the beginning of BvS (I know I know), just seeing the devastation of it all. The tone of the movie overall would change slightly, but it'd add some needed emotional beats.
I watch a lot of people reacting to MCU stuff, but when I came out of the cinema after this movie, I thought "I hope Jay and Adam react to this" 🤣 And you did not disapoint! I knew you would love that. I also agree that this was a really fun movie.

I’m so happy y’all didn’t have all the surprise appearances spoiled, especially the post credit scene
The Aladna sequence was a lot longer, but cut down for the final release. Carol's explanation about what happened to Hala was re-shot with dialogue in post, also cut down. It helps explain the lack of emotional impact.
Criminally under-rated flick. Why on Earth Disney didn’t delay the release, even by just a few weeks, to do the usual publicity rounds after the strikes ended I’ve no idea. Inventive action, some great character development, genuinely funny and captures the vibe of the comics very well. Hopefully everything gets back on track because it’d be a crying shame if we don’t get more of this. And come on,, Secret Avengers with the newer cast as Carol’s ace in the hole? Yes please!
Let me counter..... I think its the worst project the MCU has ever done. Iman Vellani is EXTREMELY annoying in this movie with her saying omg 482 times. The Khan parents fighting off villains was extremely stupid. Samuel L told us for months that Secret Invasion HAD to come out before The Marvels, and there was zero mention of anything from the show in the movie, so that was wrong. The villain, i think, is the worst villain theyve ever introduced. The score and music placement was absolutely horrible. Dont get me started with EVERYTHING from the singing planet. I think a good description for this movie would be cute, not fun, because I had zero fun, and don't know a lot of people who enjoyed it, except for interent accounts. But, if you are into teeny bopper, CW level superhero shows in your Marvel blockbusters, I can see it being for you! The one ounce of love I will show it, is I thought Brie was the best she has been being Carol, and she looked great too! But WOOF!
Woke = broke

Your reaction to the X-Men reveal was everything I could have hoped for. I DID see this in theatres and even before they showed Beast on screen, when I heard Kelsey Grammer's voice, my brain immediately screeched, 'NO, THEY DIDN'T!!', and then you see the blue arm come into frame, and my brain screamed, 'YES, THEY DID!!' and I promptly freaked out. I cannot WAIT to see what they plan on doing with the X-Men universe and, because they got Kelsey to voice Beast again, I'm hopeful that they may try to work the other voice actors who were in the cartoon into the movie 'verse as well where they can. I haven't been this excited for the MCU since the first phase ended.

Sword space station was in both Spider-Man: Far from Home and Secret Invasion.
And alluded to in Wandavision
well the transport thing was in Secret Invasion not the actual space station
"My Hell, Jay's Heaven!" I'm right with you buddy.
This movie was so much fun, which people seem to consider such a dirty word nowadays. It could've used some more character development, a more fleshed out villain, but I had a grin on my face for the whole movie and for that alone I'd call it a resounding success. I'm sure some of the humor won't land for everyone (mainly the musical planet and the CATS flerken scene), but it totally worked for me, and I could name at least half a dozen MCU flicks I enjoyed less. I hope Disney ignores the negative reception and financial success of this because I need to see more of all of these characters!
While I like this movie, the singing section almost made me die of second-hand embarrassment. If I'd watched it at home instead of a cinema, this section would take me probably weeks to get through, as I would watch one minute, pause for two hours to recuperate, watch another minute, don't touch it for three days, skip five minutes to see if it's still going on, get back to it a week later and just search to see where it ended and sanity returned so I could continue the movie.
Unfortunately, I think the House of Mouse took one look at the revenue and made... _decisions._
I think you talked through the part that there was a huge civil war that broke out when the Supreme Intelligence was destroyed. Halal was devastated based on the war and not from Captain Marvel. She just started the war for power.
Correct the Sun and water and air was a self inflicted issue which is why Carol didn't just Fix It
That is kinda par for the course for the Kree blaming everyone else for self inflicted issues....granted Carol should have maybe expected civil unrest but the Kree having an environment destroying Civil War is 100% on them. r@AlbertoMartinez765
Yep. Carol is the villain. Created the problem to begin with. Then the whole movie was pointless because all she had to do was restart the core of the star. I guess she just had to realize "she was empowered all along." Kind of like the first movie. The movie made $200 million because of lazy, predictable writing, not because of "vocal incels". Families/people aren't paying theater prices for stuff they can predict. Kamala Khans actress seemed like she was having fun at least. Oh and they killed our boy Nick Fury. He used to be a badass. Now he's a babysitter/cat dad. Woof.
@@jesustappednot really. if anything it shows how angry and lost hala was. Dar Ben did all that thinking she was the cause when it happened naturally.
@@kaivonnix1100 So the movie wasn't a complete box office bomb? If it was so good then why wasn't it supported at the theater? Easy answer: it was boring, pointless and predictable.
Adam had the same reaction as when Quicksilver showed up on Wandavision! I loved this movie.
Second of all, finally got to see this movie now that it's in Disney ploos, (cinema got destroyed by hurricane Dorian, still waiting for a replacement 😢)
This movie rocks! Is it perfect? No. But it should be rated way higher than it is. I loved it. And the promise of the two after credit scenes ... :: chef's kiss::
With Captain Marvel, the emotional growth is going along perfectly to me and seems on purpose. Brie is a good actress, like or hate her as a person or her politics or whatever but she is a good actress. The Captain Marvel movie, she was supposed to be detached, she was stripped of her human memories, only remembers her training on an alien world for their military where they teach detachment to do what they do. And apparently she is still working on getting her memories back, and it really feels like to me its moving along with as she gets her memories back the more human emotions appear... not to mention, poor lady has been thru some stuff. Abducted by aliens, wiped of her memories, find out she was working with the bad guys, destroying an all powerful AI that then destroyed the livability of an entire planet while also trying to find a new home for a whole civilization of another alien species while also trying to keep the promise to a little girl that is now a grown badass woman.... yeah she's been thru it... I am not surprised she has some metaphorical walls built up. Which we finally see her breaking through in this movie, so yes it would have been great to have a CM 2, but to me there still was a great Arc for Carol between the two.
Ditto - the whole point to Carol and emotions is she lived years being told not to have emotion. She's slowly learning and growing. I totally get it as a woman in this world.
I am so glad I got to see your reactions to this movie! Kamala was fantastic as always, Monica’s power set got flushed out, and Carol got her family back so she’s no alone anymore. We got cool new powers, Flurkins and Flurkittens, musical numbers, and alien planets, and we got two after credits that gave us hope for future movies and series. Again thank you for recording and sharing this reaction, made my day.
This was my one of my absolute favorite reaction of yours. From Jay’s joy with the singing planet, to Adam’s constant laughter seeing the baby flerkens nom nom the crew, to the joyful shock of the end credit scene. PLEASE DO MORE MOVIE REACTIONS!! 🙏🏽❤
First appearance of the SWORD space station was Spider-Man: Far From Home. They were clear in Secret Invasion it was in Earth orbit in Secret invasion (Using the same space elevator for him landing and leaving there too). Also the other Skrulls, the ones in this movie, were specifically mentioned in Secret Invasion in the train argument. These are the ones who were following the Emperor and didn't come to Earth.
My daughter and I were watching this movie for the second time, and she mentioned that there was something off about Dar-Benn that bugged her. I thought it was her intense stare, and it turned out I was partially right. Go back and watch the movie, and pay attention to Dar-Benn's eyes-she NEVER blinks! Everyone else does, but not Dar-Benn, except for once, and it was only a single blink. I think my daughter subconsciously caught onto this, and it just made her feel uncomfortable.
Just one more thing, I want to say thank you to Jay and Adam. I really enjoy your content. It is great to find people who enjoy shows/movies for the sake of enjoying shows/movies and do not feel like it is neccessary to bash just to pile on with other haters. I know you both don't always enjoy what you are watching but when it comes time to discuss it, you have legitimate reasons and that I appreciate. I actually started watching the live-action One Piece because you were reviewing it, and I loved the show.
I thought of Jay the first time I saw the Aladna musical scene in the theatre and how much he would love it.
Adam, your suggestion for handling the structure of learning about the villain was right on. It would have presented her with more nuance from the jump instead of much of the movie being "I AM THE BAD GUY." That one small change could have done so much.
But I love this movie, it's such a fun ride.
The fact that the flerken kitties were a mix of cgi and actual kittens on set is amazing 😂 I would’ve loved to be on that set
I appreciate how y'all are really positive about things, it's a nice refreshing outlook especially when so much hate is thrown around all the time. Hate can be infectious, but so is positivity - so thank you for that!
been saying since seeing this in the cinema that they needed 15-20 minutes added to the run time to smooth things out a little and let stuff breathe. I also think that their biggest plus point of the movie was the chemistry between Brie, Iman and Teynorah.... and they couldn't use it at all in the run up to release. This movie did NOT deserve the box office it got.
Also, originally there was a line in the Valkyrie scene where it's shown that she and Carol had been a couple in the past but it got cut
This movie was a blast. Loved the chemistry between the three leads, loved that they let Carol soften a bit. The action was good. The post credit scene was fantastic. This did not deserve the hate it got… and a whole lot of that was from people who hadn’t seen it.
Omg the arguments about the space station have me laughing so hard
Re Carol not fixing the star when it was so easy: carol is a fighter pilot, she acts she doesn't think. Monica is a scientist, she has the perspective of "what happened, how can we fix it" and knows that Carol can- Carol had no idea it was an option until Monica said.
She literally said she's never done anything like that before. That's like asking a fighter pilot fly the Apollo spacecraft. They're skilled but never thought that the situation would occur.
Watching this again with you two increased the fun level by 1000000. My daughter is angry at me now because my laughing woke her up from her nap.
Musical numbers, kittens, that freaking post-credit scene, how people didn't like this just astounds me.
Top to bottom, this was probably one of my all-time favorite videos from your channel!! After ADORING your teaser trailer reaction in April, I’m so glad that it worked out for you guys to watch the movie in full at home for the channel!
I didn't say this originally but thought it was great. How this was the perfect teaching tool for Kamala on what it means to be a hero. How you can't save everyone. What sacrifice is. And caring about the ones you love. She HAS to be future of the MCU because it only needs to get better and it will with her.
People hate phase 4 movies because they're not consequential to the bigger picture, but why can't they just be . It helps to see phase 1-3 as a tree trunk widening to the base of branches that spread out in phase 4, telling parallel stories that explore the aftermath of the infinity saga. The pace has slowed, the story is building gradually, individual characters are getting their own personal adventures and arcs. Because there are so many branches, we can get many different genres and types of stories. Why can't we just be grateful for this?
If an MCU fan didn't like some of them, this doesn't mean "the MCU is dead". It just means that not everything is catered to everyone's tastes.
The only movie of the phase 5 that excited everyone was Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3.

The reason they didn't reveal the bad guy's motives at the start is because info-dumps like that can be more confusing when they are out of context. It's often more interesting to be as in the dark as the characters and learn what's going on at the same time as them. It's a fair storytelling choice.

They could salvage the Ralph Bohner thing from "WandaVision" by mentioning in passing, that Quicksilver went missing on the X-Men Earth. Now they have the right person to verify: "Yeah I know that guy. He's now where I am from." and that could lead to the X-Men establishing contact with the MCU.

I thought this movie was so charming, it wasn't the best Marvel movie, but it was a fun ride that spoke to so much of the Marvel universe and what's coming. So much fun and it really did not deserve to get dunked on, it also should have had more time in theaters before being released, I was a bit shocked to see this on Disney+ so fast. It was the same with Black Widow and I am starting to wonder if this is going to be a recurring theme with Marvel movies featuring women. I'm not sayin' but I'm sayin'.
Also Kamala and her family just chilling on S.A.B.E.R is perfect and her mother calling Fury "Nicholas," Muneeba is just peak mom.

Wish I'd seen it in theatres." Apart from some all too predictable "Oh, so The Marvels just so happens to be trending and it's mostly positive. What's going on there?" The movie was obviously chopped to bits by the studio (I hope we get an extended cut down the road or at least a bunch of deleted scenes) but it was a lot of fun. I only managed to see it once before it was gone but I'm glad I did. I had a decent crowd who was into it. I've since watched it 3 more times. It just goes by so quick and I want to hang out with them for a little longer. It seems like we just get the team together before they're training for the final battle. It's almost worth it just to see Iman Vellani nerding out. It's like one of us somehow made it into the MCU.
I don't know how Marvel makes their decisions but I hope this isn't the last we see of them together. Ms Marvel will for sure be back in Young Avengers. Figure they have to have Monica back for Secret Wars. I'm most worried about Captain Marvel. I like her. What can I say. And I like Brie Larson. If you haven't seen 'Lessons in Chemistry' you should check it out. Lewis Pullman is in that too. Back to Brie, I imagine she probably has better things to do than take crap from a bunch of incels whenever she plays Carol Danvers but it'd be good to see her get a proper ending/sendoff.
I think the same…I’m also worried that Brie Larson might get tired of all this absurd hate and decide to leave. She is a great actress, a great person, and a fantastic Captain Marvel.
The movie was beyond bad

The hate was predictable. But it was so much fun ❤❤❤🎉😂 i loved it, too.
My reaction was the same as yours with the post credit scene. I was in shock, my brother knew it but didnt tell me, which I'm thankful for.
Please keep doing movie reactions. This was the best time! From the comments to the sing alongs to Jay every 5 minutes “halla!” Lol, omg Adam’s reaction to Beast was me. Even though I agree we needed more backstory and direction, this was truly a fun movie and sometimes that is ok to have
Jay really kinda crystalized the problem I personally had with the movie: the depth that I personally wanted was just disjointed. There were some real hints of depth here in this movie for all 3 leads, but the movie kinda just glosses over all of them. My favorite parts of the movie are really where the 3 Marvels are just bonding. I really wanted more out of Carol and Monica's relationship; I wish we had a bit more time for Kamala to really breathe in this moment that they had to let innocents die in order to ensure a safe escape, and see that her hero makes these difficult choices; and for Carol herself, I wish there was more to the guilt that she feels. A lot of this was TOLD, but not really shown or expanded. Everything with the Flerkin and the Disney Princess stuff isn't for me, admittedly, but I think I would've been easier on it if the movie, as Jay said, was like 20-30 minutes longer to let things flesh out. No hate to anyone who legit enjoyed this movie. I stil found it more enjoyable than the first "Captain Marvel" film, but this entry still is probably among the lowest. I really love all 3 leads together, and truly hope to see them all either together again, or alongside the remaining MCU heroes. I just think the movie and story failed them.
That being said, YES, gimme some Young Avengers! And also, the X-Men reveal at the end was legit cool. Offputting CG on Beast aside, it was great to see him looking so comic-accurate with Kelsey Grammer reprising the role.
Agreed, it was OK but about 2/3 of the way through it I realized this is what was bothering me. Needed to go more into the villain's motivations (as they said, that one scene moved to the beginning would have helped), more bonding, more delving into Carol and Monica's relationship, etc. would have elevated the movie without changing too much. Maybe could have benefitted from another pass or two of the script, or maybe they left longer, potentially better scenes, on the cutting room floor.
@@p-forest Oh that was another thing that bothered me too: the villain was such a non-factor. I know villains have kinda been an on-and-off issue for MCU entries since the very beginning, but it felt quite egregious here considering Zawe Ashton is Tom Hiddleston's wife lol. Considering Loki has become of the most developed villains turned hero/antiheroes of the MCU, you'd think they'd give Zawe something a juicier role lol. End of the day, the movie actually needed to be longer. I know people are burnt out by 2.5 - 3 hour runtimes, but you also gotta know how to let a story breathe properly. I guess the more breezy pace worked for some, but I thought it hurt this movie a lot.
Been waiting so long to see you react to that mid-credit scene
I knew Adam's reaction to the credit scene would be priceless, And Iwas not disapointed
The MOST underrated MCU movie! Me and my 9 yr old daughter watched Ms. Marvel together (wife doesn't like MCU stuff) and so I took my daughter to go watch this at the movies. My wife tagged along and absolutely loved it and we all laughed together. One of my favorite family moments bcuz something I love and something my daughter enjoyed with me turned into this thing we all enjoyed together for a moment.
marvel desperately need to put Kamala and Peter Parker in the same film. No matter how weird it might be to have the Spidey-friends group be the older siblings :P
If could change one thing about this film.
I would make it longer to have more time with the characters.
It's the Beaker-like screams at 36:20 for me. 🤣🤣🤣
Jay's face when the singing started brightened the entire universe for just a moment.
I think a LOT of ppl misunderstand Carol's emotionlessness, she has a LOT of trauma, emotional abuse and gaslighting by the Kree and Supreme Intelligence before she broke free, and she has OBVIOUSLY not taken the time to deal with it fully. So while she is better than CM, she still falls back into her stoic Kree training as a defense mechanism at times and is still trying to allow herself to be emotional and is obviously still struggling with it.
I'm so glad y'all loved this one because I did, too!!! ⚡ Cheers to writer/director Nia DaCosta.
I was so. excited. that. you. watched. this! We absolutely loved this movie -- how can you not? -- and it was a real joy to rewatch it with you both. The reactions were priceless. Thank you!
The reaction to the musical scene alone was worth the price of admission.
