My, Sister Coates could sing! I'm a sixty-five year old white boy who used to scoff at such Spirit-filled singing, but the better I know my Master the more I long to join in with heart-felt music. There is indeed a place for emotion in worshiping our infinite, self-existent, loving God.
You must have that fire & Holy Ghost, That Burning churning keeps the prayer wheel turning; That kind of religion you cannot conceal, It makes you move, makes you shout, Makes you cry when it's real. Keep your hand right in the windin' chain, My souls been anchored in my Jesus' name, I'm filled within, I've free from sin, Lord You know I've been born again.
Thanks for posting this song. This was the first song I sang at the age of 17 ...and the fire and holy ghost has been burning in my life .... I'm a gospel singer, and still bring this out of the box every now an then. now I'm 73... so the words are true!
I must say i love watching Ms. Mildred sing this song..i can't go a day without hearing this song..may u continue to rest in the arms of the angels til that great getting up morning!!!
Boy this is what I call heart felt holy ghost gospel music. When I was a boy I went to the Oil Springs old time Church of God in Christ with my uncle and his son and we were mostly the only tree "white folks" in the building and I loved songs like this and Jesus on the main line, sweeping through the city, I wanna go where Jesus is, and many more. They sang all these songs and I sure miss those days. I would dance in the holy ghost until my feet would get sore. My Uncle tried to set me down once and pastor Harrison set him down and rebuked him saying brother Muncy that boy got the holy ghost. He's pure in heart praising the Lord.you let him be now. You go ahead and praise him honey. Ain't nobody gonna set you down here as long as I'm here. Pastor has gone to be with the Lord but his son takes care of the church now. Love to see people of any race, gender, or creed stand up and give him some praise. God bless you and keep you until the great and awful day of the Lord. Amen?
AGELESS! From a child, I have listened to this group in general and this song in particular!! Every note, every word, every blessing...it lives in my heart!,
RIP.. There are few times when God sends those that inspire us to be better and can bring us to tears.. This woman did so for so many years.. God Thank You for this..
Mildred Howard waws my favorite gospel singer. I had the chance to meet her and know here. She was "the lady of gospel." Unpretenous, sincrfe, honest and all the qualities one would expect of a pioneer in gospel. Dr Wilbert Jordan
I praise God that I have been blessed to come up under the covering of Jesus Christ. I am now old enough to appreciate all of my life experiences good one and bad ones. I now say " my soul looks back and wonder how I made it over?"
I can so relate............I just long to play these old songs but we are stuck on contemp praise songs these days...........they bless..........but man not like the old songs.
Sadly Mildred Howard went home to the Lord on July 12, 2009, She came up with the idea for the Gospel Harmonettes formed in the early 1940s & disbanded in 1977. One of the first all-women gospel singing groups to sign a national recording contract, the Harmonettes were fronted by Dorothy Love Coates (passed away in 2002) and toured the country for more than three decades. Their legacy lives on as Dorothy & Mildred's songs are still sung in churches around the World today
One of my mom's favorite songs. I sang it at her home-going service two weeks ago. She sang it a little bit differently. Still it means a lot to me. It takes me back to the 50's and 60's
Reminds me of my grandmother during the time she was teaching me to play piano for the church, this was one of her favorite song, though I still play for churches it's just not the same anymore, we use to rock the church with praise and songs, now with the adjustments that I had to make with my music to be contemporary it lost a lot in translation.
Look at the saints! Richard Smallwood, Walter Hawkins, Dorothy Norwood and so many more! I love when she get happy @3:27 and @2:10 THEM KEYS!!! YES! I sure love me some old school!!
Ms, Mildred voice evapoarates her way of musical art touching souls with the spirit of GOD. What a powerful message in the song that can definitely pull the lost who wonder what itakes to be born again. RIP Ms, Howard.
This is true gospel music----no pretending and shining glory on the singer. Everytime I see this, I want to shout. This is the kind of music I knew as a child. Praise God for our pioneers of good old gospel music.
Bless you all...it's good to see Mrs. Evelyn Hardy still playing hard on the piano. She was an awesome music teacher at Councill Elementary School (Birmingham, AL- Ensley area). I loved to hear this song as a child and even more so now more than ever!!! Praise the LORD!!!
I'm skeptically about religion and If God is really real, but I can see the role the church and singing played in the lives of people. Bringing a sense of community and believing in something bigger than themselves which brought hope and joy. Now that is completely awesome.
This group is THE TRUTH! We grew up listening to these ladies thrash these songs to bits!! We had pretend church services with these recordings. We'd take turns bein the preacher, singers, and covering each other up with cloths after we fell in the floor. More than one of us had real experiences with the Lord playing church. My brother got the Holy Ghost in the basement playing church.
THIS IS GOSPEL SINGING, THE KIND YOU DON'T HAVE TO JUST BE IN CHURCH TO LIFT UP YOURS HANDS UP TO JESUS WITHOUT DOUBT & LET HIM HAVE HIS WAY WITH YOU.I FEEL IT BRO RODGERS, YOU GOT THE BEST OF THE BEST OLD SCHOOL GOSPEL SONGS THAT I'VE ENJOYED & I 'M JUST ENJOY MYSELF11
Born Again is a song my grandmother and her sisters sang as the Speight Sisters. And then the daughters form their own version of the Speight Sisters and it became their signature song in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. We still get together at family reunion, gatherings and funerals of loved ones to sing this powerful song. Folks have been saved as result of the Holy Ghost moving
Long ago, I didn't know nothing about Jesus and His love I had heard about Him, but I had never felt this manna which comes down from above In this life of sin I could no longer stand I asked my mother how do you get to know the man She said you must be, don't you see you've got to be ....Born again
3-16 sec. mark shows- Singer/Songwriter of 'Born Again' Dorothy Love Coates, though she wasn't singing in this video. 17 sec. mark- Mastering the piano, Evelyn Starks Hardy { Last living Member of The Original GOSPEL Harmonettes } 39 sec. mark- Mildred Miller Howard is Leading, then from left to right: Odessa Edwards, Willie Mae Newberry Garth and Vera Kolb --Dorothy Love Coates & The Harmonettes- Trailblazers : ) 59 sec. mark- On organ Herbert Pickard, he played piano and organ w/ them, also.
this grandma is so cute.Hehe, they are so special, and yes if yxou´re young or old, everybody can praise the lord.Just as you are. Some blesses to all of you
pastordallen, My mom Beatrice sang with Dorothy when they were in Alabama, and said she was one of the 'best' singers she'd ever sung with. 'Holding On' is my favorite song sung by Dorothy and the Harmonettes, and still brings back wonderful memories for me. Thanks for the information.
Just to br born again would be wonderful. I have know ideal how too get Jesus back into my life. Yes, it makes me mad as hell sometimes, because I feel ignored...... yet; I know he loves me. Yet, I can't seem to reach him at all. I want a job at Eurest ans Olive garden.....But most of all I just need him to love the real me. I don't lie to him... that wouln't do me any good...... Just want God to love me... How hard is that.
+Richard Zakeaauss Samuels It's just as simple as that... The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9-10 to confess with our mouth The Lord Jesus and believe within our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead. And we would be saved. I believe today that The Lord loves you and wants you to be saved! I'm praying for you! Be Blessed! Pastor JK Rodgers +Richard
Evelyn Hardy, you better play that piano girl!! ! ! ! Let the Lord use you. That's called "GIFITING"! What a blessing to go back and hear those old gospel favorites. The Gospel Harmonettes. None can compare.
this lady is real example of holy spirit in operation thru her, the spirit hit me the first second I heard her which was only a couple days ago...love these singers and bands and the whole era..bring it on babe...
Ms. Mildred Howard still sounds good. I was looking at an older video where she was singing a part with Dorothy Love Coates and the rest of The Harmonettes. The song entitled "Every Day Will Be Sunday" and you could tell then The Spirit was in her. This is so great :)
You know what....I've listened to all the related clips to this events and they are are precious and meaningful and bless me in their own. But for some reason....I can't really explain it....I am constantly drawn to this particular clip. I never grew up on this song...in fact my first time hearing it is here. But I find myself listening and repeating this clip over and over so many times.
It's Holy Ghost singing, be it baptist or what have you. It's blood washed singing. It's living water singing. It's bread of heaven singing! It's burden lifting singing! But, yes.. it's the way of the old black baptist churches... and, yes, we have the fire in us too...
Thank you for posting this video, it is a Blessing for all to watch and hear........ Somebody Say AMEN.................. These ladies are an inspiration for all.
Thanks so much for re-posting this video! It had become part of my morning routine then it disappeared from TH-cam and I was SICK! I was a kid growing up in the Arkansas Delta (Pine Bluff) & we used to SANG this song! Every time you would sing it you always knew that the congregation was gonna sing that chorus at least 20 times!!!! I never knew anything about Dorothy Love Coates and the Harmonettes or where this song came from but this video gave me a BIG education! This is just awesome!

Wow! LOVED this! Came across this looking for a song called "God's Got Everything You Need" or "He's Got Everything You Need". Regardless, I'm glad I discovered this gem. Truly gospel that "stirs your soul"! Thanx for posting.
