Music By Pedro I know I am really late but I am about to start band in 3 months and I have a question, do you need a curtain shape of lips to play alto saxophone or can anyone with any shape of lips play? Thank you
I would have loved to hear differences between how the "smile" vs the "ooh" sound on tone. also, I am always intrigued when good players try to replicate bad playing technique. Even your "too little mouthpiece" and "too much mouthpiece" sound a lot better than I do, XD
the biggest difference between the Ooh and Smile embouchure is going to the a more pinched sound in the "smile" embouchure. Haha, its actually kind of tricky to try to do something I'm not used to. Don't worry, you'll get there!
Hey Pedro! I have a massive overbite (to the point of maybe 0.03 in. gap between my lower and upper teeth), my overbite is with my upper jaw (my mandible is behind the upper jaw). And i was wondering if this would harm my playing sound or force me to slightly (or even drastically) change my embouchure? Thanks for any info you can give me! ~Noah
You know, I'm not quite sure what will happen as everyone is different. I know I have a student I teach private lessons to that does have a slight overbite and he seems to be playing fine.
I also want to see a soprano sax embouchure as I have struggled for about a year and a half (being self taught...) and I never seem to be able to hit high f at my own will. I went to see if this was posted there but it says you need a url to submit the thread. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey Pedro I just got my tenor sax back from the shop and in the time being I had been playing soprano and my tenor sax embouchre is all messed up and it would help if you did a tenor sax embouchre vid please
So recently I accidentally dropped my mouthpiece (don't ask how) and it made a dent on the top tip. Any suggestions on what mouthpiece I should consider buying. I play classical music and jazz. Mostly classical. Thanks!
Fermentation - try a Meyer or a Jody jazz HR* some Vandorens are really flexible too. Not sure about alto but I play jazz on soprano on a selmer c* with select jazz reeds and it works great for me...
I actually disagree. Curling the bottom lip out of the flashiest part of the inner lip is on the reed gives the richest, most powerful sound. This strategy is usually for jazz but curling the bottom lip over the teeth is most prominent in classical music (concert bands).
I'm not Pedro but its what ever your used to If you play one type, you'll have a hard time with the others so just keep practicing on one you like and when your used to it, its easier to play and it sounds better
For an intermediate player, Id highly recommend the P Mauriat www.wwbw.com/P--Mauriat-PMSA-57GC-Intermediate-Alto-Saxophone-H94365-i2988544.wwbw#/product-details
+Rancid Burrito I don't think the OP was switching to another saxophone in general. Sounded to me like he has a beginner and wants to switch to a more sturdy/intermediate model.
Music By Pedro no but he said which is better for an intermediate player and I was just telling him to try and find one he likes or one that works well with him because Im Alto, and I tried tenor for a few days and it didn't sound well mainly because I played as if it was an alto
+Rancid Burrito I thought when he said "kind" he meant brand. If he was referring to your point then yes I partially agree. It's a bit tricky to find a good set up for all the saxophones. It's takes lots of time and lots of trial and error.
Thanks, for a while i though my tone is just doing fine till you make a sample of pinch and the proper way of doing the right sound,I'm a beginner and I'm only watching and learning from TH-cam
+OfficialMarlow2000 if you posted it on the MusicByPedro subreddit, I will check it out when I get to my studio. Currently doing 3 performances out of town. Thanks! :)
When I play, my face looks very odd/strained from tightening the corners of my mouth. This is how I've always played, and it sounds nice, feels normal, and causes very little biting, but I still think (not feel) as if I am over-tightening my embouchure. Any help?
+Bored w/Life hmm. I'd make sure you're not over biting regardless of where the corners of your mouth are. Obviously I may be speculating but how long are your practice sessions and how often you practice are key in finding out if fatigue is the problem.
No No No , you need to read David Liebmans book on Embouchure. Also how much piece you take in is determined by where the reed breaks from the mouthpiece. I disagree. Ksaxman.
Nice video, but kill the effects on your voice. The speak in a tutorial video should be clear. With the effects on, your voice seems a bit distant/far away. But nice video. I will try to use the "think Uh-sound" with my students. That's very nice thinking. :-)
Wow you're a lifesaver! I picked up the alto sax literally last Friday so this was perfect!
Awesome. I'll have some more alto things so make sure to stay tuned!
Thanks for the tips man you've really inspired me to improve on my saxophone skills!
Awesome. Good luck! :)
I like your explanations and presenting style, thank you.
Thanks! :)

I have a overbite and I've played the saxophone for four years
+Music By Pedro Righty then thanks for the info! I just wondered if it would effect my playing at all. Yeah, thanks!
Would you be able to make a soprano sax embouchure video?
Great idea! Drop the idea over at www.reddit.com/r/musicbypedro and I'll check it out! Thanks!

MNDude Noted. Thanks for the suggestion.
Awesome video
My concern is biting on the mp especially on the high notes how and when biting the mp applied...
Is Your Reed a synthenic one?
Hey Pedro I just got my tenor sax back from the shop and in the time being I had been playing soprano and my tenor sax embouchre is all messed up and it would help if you did a tenor sax embouchre vid please
+MRX SMASH got one planned, but it's basically similar to the alto one.
Thanks really appreciate it!
Thank you very much
I've played the sax for four years now, but this is still interesting. :)
Great! I've got more tips and tricks so stay tuned!
Super helpful thx man

Do you have tips for Tenor Saxophones?
yes. Watch my Tenor Embouchure video (coming soon!) :D
+Music By Pedro Awesome!

Spot on. This kind of sound is thin compared to when you curl out.
Totally agree with you,
Phs??
I use dubble lip
What mouthpiece do you use in this video?
+Sunny Donaldson that's an old mouthpiece but the one I'm using now is the JodyJazz Jet.
Thanks!
Thanks bro for the vid

It's a Super Action 80 Serie II.
Hey Pedro what kind of sax would you recommend for an intermediate player?
I'm not Pedro but its what ever your used to

Pirate plank
do you have a fast tonguing video
+trevinia turner it's in the list to make. Thanks for the suggestion.
As a clarinet player that is planning on playing alto Sax, this is quite different 😅
+RandomPony9 yep. It's a big mistake some sax players do when they try clarinet also :)
Why u wearing harness for alto its so small
Because it takes the weight from my neck. all the weight goes to my shoulders.
Can you mentor me am in Nigeria
Could you do piano?
+OfficialMarlow2000 what on piano?
+Music By Pedro A good starting tip maybe, cause I practice piano and I would like to improve on iy
+OfficialMarlow2000 I'll see what I can do.

Awesome, thanks for watching! I have corrected the rest of the mini lesson videos since this was more of a "one take" video. Thanks!
dang... i wish my sax could sound like that....😪😪😪
Old school
Definitely!
the reverb ruins everything
Good vid but the amount of reverb you use is ridiculous
So beginners do the first mistake with the sound
but if they do it right from the getgo, they won't have to worry about it in the future!
