    Absolutely brilliant Ben. Not baby sitting clamps, exactly. Casting shadows, exactly. Duplicating power tools, exactly. Some people spend, some people don't, exactly. Simple drill table, exactly. You need a separate surfacer and thicknessing machines to eliminate your problem lol. Love your through the ages of how your present workshop has evolved. I was thinking about doing the same. Your editing skills are outstanding and its been really, really interesting listening to your how's, what's and why's. I'm still waiting for the email. A good 22:29 minutes of my life watching this. • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was very nice of him to do that, and I'm very grateful! It actually came right when it was needed to get me back up off the floor! I hear ya! I dont get it it too, ive spent so many hours looking for the perfect solution to no dust or chips in a workshop, its just not real life, they're cleaning up all the time, theres no chip extractor on a hand plane for instance, no perfect solution to the mitre saw.. ...its all, well to Walt Disney for my liking. Thank you for the complement Fuzzy 🍻🍻🍻

  • @diarmaidok
    @diarmaidok 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Flashy as fuck...like an ocean of festool! Love it! I got one of the 2.5 inch extraction kits from charnwood or record power and extra 45 degree angles and loads of pipe joints from the other and put it all round the sweatshop, i then got loads of extension leads and trailer boards and plugged all of them in a line roughly following the piping, I plugged all the machines I use often into that chain of extension leads, and plugged it into the auto takeoff on the ctm midi. Now as soon as I turn on any of the machines, the extractor comes on automatically, all I have to do is close one blast gate and open another. I got some 50mm hose fom ebay and bought a festool ctm adaptor [hoover side]. Its plugged into a cheap chinese cyclone which is mounted onto a medium sized bin, small enough to fit a bin liner round the outside of it to dump more easily]. Pretty much all the crap I hoover up or extract from the machines, drops straight into that bin. Im still on the 1st bag on the festool extractor [got it in 2020]. I'm in Essex if you want to see it. The main problem with that planer is it isn't a Wadkin! Have you tried shooting the wee gat gun darts?...[loads straight into our old gat pellet gun/pistol], much more accurate than pellets, and safe for indoor shooting, straight into wood or probably a dart board...pliers needed to remove them!

    Spot on advice. I can see the wide lens was used for the lean too workshop as it makes uthat Bosch GTS 10XC contractors saw looks masshoof!
    Fwiw, Akthough not a you tuber, I’ve worked hard at my own business for 13 years since leaving a career in a well paid profession with no regrets but still have a cramped 11.5 x 10ft workshop but it’s all good. Frustrating as things like being uber tidy and staying on top of dust control are a must but you’d be amazed at the things which can be made there including the last commission for some one large 4ft tall corner speakers weighing a hundredweight each!

    Thanks for the tour, Ben. My favourite thing about your workshop is it’s not white. I understand why white walls and ceilings are practical but I can’t hack it. Give me a darker space with and some good lamps.
    When it comes to tools there are two types of quality: performance and durability. Everyone needs the performance (accuracy, flatness, fine adjustment) but hobbyists don’t need tools to perform thousands of cuts, like the stuff a pro uses every day for years on end. What I’m getting at is those new to the game can save money by choosing lighter and lower-powered models of the same brands that TH-camrs wield.
    Nice bit of plinking at the end. Thanks again.

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Justin! I'd love a white workshop, but for different reasons, having extra light bouncing around adds more “fill” light and would save me bouncing light around only for film purposes that is, would also make the editing easier with white light the rushes from A & B camera would be much closer and save me hours of colour correcting! Dark would absorb the light.. Outside of that I agree with ya!

      Thanks mate! It seems my down fall was not running many ads on my channel, the minute I just let youtube place ads where they like and as many as they like thats seemed to be the change that made the difference. I dont think Ive done anything differently with my channel other than that. I keep meaning to ask you I watched a shit load of your vids the other day, one vid you said "we all know *&^%$£ videos on youtube do better" I think it was a vid where you were going over the progress of your channel, can you remember what type of vids you said, was it tool reviews?

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HewAndAwe Hmmmm maybe letting TH-cam make more money off you is the secret 🤣 Im the same, I restrict the number of ads and I handpick the placement. I usually only put one midroll and edit the video to have a convinient spot. Argh yes, my yearly recap vids. For me, my best performing videos are mostly DIY style home related things (like my sliding wardrobe doors and window repairs), but they can be hit and miss. My most consistantly well performing videos are Tool Reviews, nearly every one Ive done has performed well above average. Workshop projects and furniture builds only ever really reach my core audience. Makes sense, lots of people search out Tool reviews and everyone, even non-woodwork people, need DIY at some stage whereas there are 10,000 folks doing workshop and furniture videos.... but that's because my build projects are all very generic and basic. You sir, have skills and a design eye that are MUCH rarer. People will watch your work simply because it looks awesome and different. Plus, your editing is a lot sharper than most and miles above mine so I am not surprised at all you've started to get some traction. Same as Jesper Makes, from his first video I knew he'd blow up eventually and now he's flying.

    Loved this tour and monologue Ben, absolutely brilliant. I'm playing catch up here with your videos, watch your Mirka Deros / Festool ETS video before, totally agree with the Abranet issue, I think it is fine for sheet goods like MDF but anything else like real world timber stuff is a no no. Having said that I really like their Novastar range which you don't really see much of and is fantastic for sanding wood and long lasting. They've just released a new one called Galaxy which I think is an upgrade on the Novastar range, might be worth a look? Cheers, Leo

      @@HewAndAwe I had an epiphany the weekend I first drove an mx5, it sort of went like this; my cousin had come to nz for a few weeks and we had made a last minute plan to drive from my place to Queenstown, a 5ish hour drive through mountain pass roads etc. We knew taking the work truck was a bit rubbish, and couldn't take the family car from the missus so started looking around for fun rental options. That's when I found a company in christchurch that rents out solely mx5's so we got one. 3 days we didn't put the roof up, don't think we even opened the doors haha. It wasn't faster than everything on the road but it didn't need to be, it was so much fun. We were a few hours into the journey when I realised that if I were to win the lottery I could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on something fancy and it might give me only 2% more enjoyment, but come with the problem that everyone else on the road thinks you're a twat and doesn't let you out of junctions. Since that point i've been absolutely mazda obsessed and I can't wait to get one and maybe an RX7 too! A drivers vehicle that always puts a smile on your dial! Thanks for reading haha

      @HewAndAwe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good question! I dont know to be honest...If I get to that stage I will research the hell out of the idea and let you know. I think having had my first Wadkin and seeing how easily fixed they are, the build quality, the epic performance (I have trust issues) I think I would go down that route and if one day I can make a living out of this again and have a bigger space I'd defo have separate, not a combo machine. I think its like most tools, so many brands just putting their name on a generically made tools with a few design changes and calling it made by them, but once you get past thise types of tools and get really pro tools then the quality gets better, but still you can buy a old solid wadkin saw for less than a new site saw (bosch/dewalt) and yeah spend a little but end up with IMO a tool you'll love and trust, and out live yourself, thats not something I can say about the shit on the market these days for the most part.
