Synth and guitar are not mutually exclusive. Holdsworth used a synthaxe way back in the 80s to enormous success. With the right tools, the guitar is still one of the best and most flexible midi controllers.

Good vid have I made a big mistake by getting the red as I'm bothered the fx more ,I've got the korg minilogue original so is that better fx then the blue electribe?
These Electribes are my favorite hardware beat makers Iv ever used and when I used to have a badass mpc 2000xl which sounded better.... The Electribe workflow is so much better for me I can make awesome beats in 15 min with these I have 2 so far Im probably gonna buy 2 more ...
I was so bummed when I found out the oscilloscope was an overlay...I use the Minilogue XD extensively and I've almost forgotten how to use a synth that doesn't have an oscilloscope!
You could add one if you need it, check TH-cam for mini oscilloscopes something like the ds212 onwards. If space isn't an issue older crt based scopes will work & give you very fast refresh, of course they'll be used lab equipment but better than going to waste.
@@LucIndustries I don't know how to connect oscilloscopes, with the clips and all...but I have found a plug-in for my daw so as long as I have something connected I can use that.
It's fun to go back to a video of yours made 6 years ago. Great thinkers make great speaker when they hone that craft too. Despite the microphone and processing being less than your modern standard of quality, your skills still shine through!
It's really great to see the effects of the various filters visually and listen to them. That was fascinating. I knew most of it from theory, but seeing and listening to it in action was very enlightening. Thanks a lot!
I cannot believe I didn't realize there were multiple FIlters for the Standard Electribe. I read the Manuel as well. Next time I need to make sure to read specifications. So many hidden features.
When i use my 2 Red at home it looks like it's red. When i'm out using it in the public it looks pink all of the sudden :) They could have chosen a better color for the sampler although i do know it's a throwback color.
Back when LooPop wasn't using a Pop filter for his voice. I want to buy the new red sampler instead of the older black one but I think all that red will freak me out by staying hours in front of it
When I got tired of the synth engine of OP-Z, I started looking for some cheaper alternative. Circuit or CTracks is out of question, bc I really need a 8-track polyphonic sequencer for my other gears, so I turn to E2s. Even if I am still not sure about whether it is a right decision today, I gradually start to enjoy this machine. The workflow is drastically different, and sometimes I’m struggling on the step edit and sample postions on E2s, but the kaosillator style x-y pad is so much fun and chord/scale mode is tremendously friendly for a non-pianoist. I can tell korg would expect us to live performance or live record w/ Electribe. Hopefully Korg would combine the red and blue for the next generation, and extend the loop length to at least 8 bar.
There is an alternative firmware called Hacktribe, which combines the sampler and synth version: sampling + all the effects and synths from synth version + some new fm waves. Really easy to install if you follow the manual or video carefully. It can be installed both on sampler or synth version, installing on sample version is 1 step easier.
Spot on! Support our local music stores where we can see and hear our instruments in person! I avoid shopping on amazon for a variety of reason, but this is the biggest reason!
It would be great if you could do the whole tutorial on EMX2 / ESX2 in several parts from the basics to advanced features. There are many tutorials on YT but yours are very well done. You are always very well prepared before recording and you know these machines quite well.
"24 note polyphony"...... Yeah.... No. If you actually plan to use filters, that eats polyphony. If you plan to use insert effects, that eats polyphony. If you plan to use one of the heavier oscillator types, that eats polyphony. So if you actually start *using* the features it has, maybe even on more than a single sound - well, you might find yourself lucky to reach 12 note polyphony.
This was by far my biggest issue with the new Electribes. 24 voices would be great, but with so many things possibly eating into that polyphony, I was lucky to get 5-6 parts happening before I was running into voice stealing and needing to make compromises in my synth architecture. Bummer.
Exactly my issue with them and why I sold mine after 2 weeks. When I mention this the usual response I get is "well I never run into that!" making me wonder whether some people actually *use* the features of their electribe :-/
@Loopop - the 2001 Yamaha RS7000 groovebox had 64 note polyphony for synth and 256 note polyphony for sampler parts. There really is no excuse for poor polyphony implementation 16 years later. Just for comparison - in the same time period laptops went from 256mb internal memory to 16GB internal memory, CPU speeds are more then tenfold...... But somehow Korg manages to release a groovebox with less polyphony than a 2001 machine, and the same sample time as their own 2003 Korg ESX.....
I like almost every video You made. They are easy to pick up, clear, and full of valuable knowledge. This video i quite different. It's kinda ok, but its seems like You have problems with microphone, or volumes while recordings, and they dont have the clock list on left side of the screen, which normally is very handfull. Instead of all, Your videos quite rule the TH-cam. Keep it up! Cheers.
I've noticed that more filter options occaisonally flash for a fraction of a second on my Red Electribe 2 Sampler. It appears this feature has been deactivated, but is still there. Anyone else notice this?
Hi, did you notice a difference with headphones out versus standard jack outputs? I think the sampler model has some notch between 2k and 8k compared to headphones out which sounds indeed more brilliant....
This is going to sound so petty (but I can't be the only one). Why did they make the new models red and blue??? They look so cheap and tacky. The grey and black was sooooo much classier. Just my opinion.
It’s a pity you don’t underline the scale feature and constraint notes on these devices. I think a lot of people are not aware this is probably the most important thing in music composition..and how hard it is to do it on a normal keyboard.
They're both nice - obviously it would have been best to combine their features into one... what I have found is that different people prefer different things - which is why I made the video, to help make the decision regarding what's more important to you. I would say that if you're into shaping your own sound from scratch so much that it's more important than adding sampling, get the blue one, otherwise go red
I agree. Doesn't seem like it would have been too much trouble for Korg to make these into one unit. I've owned both, sold the E2 and bought the sampler. I wish the sampling aspect of the sampler was easier to use. Maybe your next tutorial will cover that. I don't even use the sampler as it is so fiddly.
So far I see many videos most of this related this device players are showing up the function ( mainly squeaky nooky noises) bro but not recording or creating samples styles under any name to store in memory that how we can save it bro if you can do for updates on these tutorials, just creating one or two samples styles on these models that will give people like me who are new will be more benefitted thank you
Really torn between the two models - I've got a Novation Circuit and Korg Monologue it'd be in a setup with, but cannot decide whether samples (which I can also port onto the circuit) are worth sacrificing so many more oscillators
Anyone know if there's a significant difference between the sequencers on these two? I just want a polyphonic sequencer with tons of memory (my emx-1 works great, but has no polyphony), and I may never use the internal sounds...I'm leaning towards the sampler as I have more synths than sense, but any thoughts?
@loopop you are like a master over the electribe 2, are you familiar with a custom firmware that supposedly can convert a sampler into synth, and synth into a sampler model? There’s like very very little info regarding this online- if you know anything about this , that would be pretty interesting
