    This whole album was a masterclass in rock guitar and songwriting! I remember wearing out the vinyl I played it so much! Never got the credit they deserved. Steve has to be the most underated player on the planet, yet probably the best!

      @@lorenzosandoval7328 First time I heard Vito was on Scotland’s ‘Rock Radio’ on the track ‘War Song’.
      The song and the solo in particular was superb, technique and emotion combined. He became an influence too during that period for me along with other greats, I remember later on Steve mentioning him as a great player with ‘the sound’.

      He is always on top with his sound, gear and you here something new every time he plays. He is a great Flamenco player as well and needs to be appreciated more than he is and I would put him in the top 10, of best guitarists, in the past 30 years. Thanks for the reply.

      @@bytorgerhold8008 male performers with those astonishing highs are rare, this guys a good singer obviously deserves to be up there it's just that often the voice is fleeting. Other problems to consider might be slight headcold, etc.

    Correct me if I am wrong, when Steve plays with Billy Idol is like his playing automatically turns magical, a guitar heaven...but I don't see that happening when Steve plays with other guys

      You mean Perry Mcarty? Think it was really just a brief stint way back in 1989 for the album and then subsequent tour. Doesn’t look like he and Steve kept in contact after by the looks of things. This guy is the singer on Steve’s recent-ish new band ‘Deadland Ritual’ too.

      Yeah, at the time Dave Friedman had just started working on guitars with Grover Jackson for Friedman guitars, I believe. This guitar’s not setup like Steve’s Charvel Dinky ‘Glow’ or Steve’s old Hamer SS3, with the older guitars Floyds flat on their body with down pitch only. This Friedman had a floating trem as far as I could see.

      He was loud, but I was right in front of Steve’s amp, so it’s only louder relative to my position, was mixed a bit better further out and centred :)
      I did deliberately go to left to catch Steve’s sound better and louder though 😂

      Andrew Zenn I didn't know that. He said he was the perfect guy I thought but just didn't like the same things or something. I read Steve say he didn't get on with the producer and hated the guitar tone...ironically it's one of the best along with the Exposed Vince Neil album 🤷‍♂️

      I played in a AC/DC, Bon era cover band with Perry in San Diego in the later 90’s and I thought he was a nice guy, seemed pretty chill and had a great voice. I only really spent time with him in rehearsal and gigs but everything was always great. I was bummed to leave the band as I moved out of State.

      @@Woundstring Steve was frustrated with the vocal recording process. Too many takes, punches, etc. Beau Hill told him that he records all of his singers that way, with the exception of Jani Lane. He said he was a real singer. Steve was irritated that he could hear all of the punches & it didn't sound live. He had another guy mix it & Hill walked off the project. He lost faith in the singer. That is the gist. He was talking about it on a podcast.

      @@johnsoos6907 Why is Steve listed as having lead vocals credits on every track of TheAtomicPlayboys? I think it is obvious just by watching the videos that Perry did the lead vocals and I dont hear Steve's voice on any of the tracks. Am i wrong about that? It interests me because i realised i had no clue whether or not SS can sing too. Only thing I know of is on "Josephine" and of course he shouts ReadySteadyGo!. But that is just shouting not singing.

      @@atomicplaygirl66 That is the interview where I heard SS talking about recording that record. It's a great interview. Very thorough, with the exception of not mentioning his great projects with Terry Bozzio & Tony Levin. As for your question, that's a mystery. I don't hear his voice & I've never known of him singing. But check out the interview. I think you'll enjoy it.

      Grant Michki it's a live concert remember. But yeah, back on the album your uncle Perry was amazing with his ultimate rock-metal voice. Tell him he still has many fans from that alone I'm sure he knows.
      Sound of my teenage years learning to play copying Steve and trying to scream like Perry singing along sometimes too...still can't do it...think I'll try on a cover for a laugh haha!

      Tatted 1969 Hi, guitar is the Friedman Cali, amp is Steves signature SS100 amp head and 4x12 cab. Various pedals including Steves Rockaway archer boost/distortion-eq for pushing the amps overdrive for some solos etc. I was stood right in front of the amp so got the pure sound :) thanks for watching. If your interested, check out my Friedman SS100 amp demo playing Steves 'Can't have your cake'. It's an amazing amp.

    Steve is right up there with guys like Steve Vai as far as technical skill. He’s easily the best wingman to come out of te 80s
    Saw him with Vince Neil open for Van Halen. and the guy does this Flamenco guitar piece that is incredible.

      Singer is Franky Perez. Yeah, he had a less metal sound more pop rock. Was a great gig as it was the first on the mini tour Steve did.
